The sound of these headphones is excellent. It really is. Excellent bass response that goes very low, and nice highs with a good amount of sparkle. The mids/mid-highs set back a little in the mix. They are present, just laid back. These headphones basically have a slight "V-shaped" frequency response. I find the low mids (300-500hz) a little too much for my taste, so slight eq (less than -1dB reduction) solves it for me. Great sounds for the money, no doubt.
These isolate very well. As a test for leakage, I listened to music at a decent volume, sitting next to my wife who was watching a movie, and it didn't bother her. I also couldn't hear her, or her movie, unless I didn't have any music playing.
15/20 min into listening, and I notice the primary problem: Clamping force. Holy cow batman. Imagine a small child pressing their hands against the outside of your favorite headphones, against your head. At first, you may not notice a problem, and then you start realizing the sides of your head/ears start to ache. After 30-40 minutes, i couldn't take it anymore. I tried over and over for days, hoping the clamping pressure would let up, but it hasn't. I have an average sized adult male head. I have experience with some other headphones, a few that had some initial minor discomfort (Grado ear pads for instance). These take the cake on discomfort for me.
It's the one reason I am planning to return them, which is so frustrating, because I love the audio. If you have a smaller head, I imagine you'll get addicted to these headphones.
Tried em out first with a Realtek chipset onboard audio computer setup...sounds great but I cannot blast these headphones. Volume that I can attain is satisfying even for my hearing (15percent loss.). Next I tried them on my phone and they were good sounding, again not as powerful as I expected. Next I tried them with my iPad they sounded great but still a less volume power trait. last I plugged them into my dac and bam...volume! They blow me away with clarity, middle ranges and my type of bass.
Construction is plastic and some metal. I was sort of like hmmm wonder how long this lasts before they crack. I will care for them, and enjoy the sound for as long as possible. They look like a competitors stying but still add accents that make them very nice to look at from a design standpoint imo.
There is a feature I like to use in my home studio...the interchangeable cord. You can switch it to a plug on either ear cup depending which earcup you want it coming out of.
One thing I am not a fan of and that is initial clamping fit. These things gave me a headache after an hour for at least a couple weeks. They have loosened up and I found a happy spot for the head adjustment, so now all is good.
I have only ever owned one other pair of higher priced headphones but these are nice too.
If you need more, I will try to keep it brief. I am not an "audiophile" per se, but am very critical when it comes to sound. You can read the hundreds of reviews online describing these headphones in technical detail, but I will say this: You WILL hear things you have never heard before in your favorite songs, even after listening to it 1000 times before, because the detail and clarity are so precise. I don't know how you could beat these for sound for under $400-500 with other closed-back headphones. Extremely well balanced sound that lets you hear the music as the artist and their producers wanted you to hear it. The bass, mids, and treble do not step on each other but are all very distinct and clear, and the responsiveness of the headphones is amazing. It may have already ruined me for lesser headphones, as they all sound muddy now. I seriously have a hard time to STOP listening to music once I put these on. Have listened for probably 12 hours in past 3.5 days, and this isn't "casual listening" while I walk around...it makes me want to just stop, close my eyes, and enjoy. They say headphones get better after being "broken in" for 50-200 hours...I cannot imagine how much better these can get, but am looking forward to it if they do!!!
These headphones are very comfortable to wear, but they are a bit larger than most, and heavier. I think they are stylish, but I really don't care what others think I look like while wearing them...I will take on a plane and not be embarrassed in the least. I really like that the headphone cable can be inserted into either side of the headphones, and supposedly you can "daisy chain" another set of headphones from the empty side but I haven't tried it. The headphones fold up for travel, and come with their own case which is very convenient. They also come with a spare set of ear pads...how great is that?!?!
One thing important to remember...while these are rated at 32 Ohms and will work fine with a laptop, iPod, smart phone, etc....you will get the best performance from them using a slightly stronger signal like from a dedicated Digital Audio Player, a separate headphone amp / booster, or plugged into a stereo receiver (with the 1/4" plug adapter that comes with it).
Lastly, I had a question about this product after I bought it from the seller Audio Advisor, Inc. (but product shipped by Amazon)...and their Customer Service responded very quickly and made sure I was taken care of. This is the sign of an excellent company, and I hope to give them more business in the future. Audio Advisor is A+++++++ in my book.
