Présentation de l'éditeur

What happens when an over-the-top, flat-out, chronically rushed career woman hires the world’s slowest carpenter to complete her late father’s half-built B&B before she loses it to the mob?

Type-A workaholic Beth Turner sure has her hands full: An eighty-hours-a-week real estate career ... "The Yesteryear," an unfinished inn left to her by her dad ... a loan-shark waiting to snatch away the extremely valuable property if Beth misses the almost impossible completion deadline ... and now: Sean Campbell.

Brilliant. Charming. A carpenter of legendary renown, Sean Campbell has no trouble convincing Beth that he's the man for the job ... except for the irritating fact that he is quite possibly the slowest-moving human on the face of the earth. Now add in some sultry summer heat, lust, and romance to mess things up and slow things down. Top it all off with a string of sabotage, courtesy of the murderous loan-shark, for which Beth blames Sean, and there goes the romance. And, barring miracles, there goes The Yesteryear.

But Sean is full of miraculous surprises, including his desperate transformation into a warp-speed building machine. But can even miracles overcome the loan-shark's final piece of sabotage ... one designed to put Beth out of his misery permanently?

I thoroughly enjoyed My Pace or Yours for several reasons--well-drawn characters, vividly set scenes, just enough suspense brought to a rousing conclusion, all elements of a satisfying story. Add to that a romance which unfolds slowly, overcomes obstacles realistically, and reaches a steamy end at just the right point, and you have a winner.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An excellent novel that is well written and well structured 4 février 2014

Besides being a great story, this book could be featured in a fiction writing class. The characters are well defined and set up early in the story. The story itself was well structured with frequent episodes of tension, humor and relaxation. My notes show that after 14 percent of the book was read, nearly all the characters were well known to me. The female protagonist versus the bad guys; a good guy that was a mystery, and maybe not that good; and many other characters woven in between. Yes, a typical “chick” novel. But what makes this one stand out is that the story was much better than most such novels. The tensions built into the story were well done, even if the reader knew the outcome would be favorable. This is a novel, not only for “chicks” but for guys (or girls?) that are plumbers or carpenters. I especially liked the book because I was able to read it leisurely and put it down to refill my drink and grab more potato chips. Yes, this is also nice book for people who are retired. I read it in two sittings and regretted finishing it.

This is a great storyline. A hero to die for. The heroine is a smart, beautiful, A type personality, successful real estate agent. it has all the making for a great story and it is a good book. However, I want to strangle the heroine. She inherits a 1/3 finished B&B that has a $250,000 mortgage on it and a mob guy holds the loan. If she doesn't finish the building and have it running in about 9 months, he gets to foreclose and she loses everything. Long story short she hires the hero, a master carpenter, to finish the building. Now she does not tell him about the deadline. STUPID on her part. But she pushes this slow working guy to get him up to her speed. It does not work. Clash of wills from the beginning.

Being an A type personality myself, I can understand how she works. I had a good friend that works the way he does. DROVE me up the wall on a daily basis. But, she hires him knowing how he works and then she fumes through most of the book because of his work ethic. Ok, she got what she paid for, no sympathy there. Naturally, they fall for each other but keep their distance. It would never work. Two exact opposites. Then she finds out some very personal, tragic news from his past. A friend of his tells her, HE DOES NOT. So what does she do? She tells the first jerk that comes along the information. Now, WHY WOULD SHE do that? Now, smart as our gal is, it never occurs to her that the mob guy, who will do anything, would stoop to keeping her from making the deadline. Never even crosses her mind. STUPID. Of course, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that her "new best friend" is about to sell her up the river.

I quit reading. It is a good story and I know it will end with HEA. I just could not deal with any more of her being stupid. I would imagine that when it is all over he will forgive her everything but I can't stand to spend anymore time with her. I would like to have a business question answered. If you owe $250,000 on a business. Spend close to that to get it up to speed and then you start to rent rooms, I think 5 bedrooms is what it had, how long before you start to make a profit? B&B just doesn't seem like the way to make a living. Especially when you cannot guarantee that every room will be filled every day so income is not guaranteed.

The father that loved her so much left her with this debt then gives his insurance policy to the 2nd wife that could have cared less if he was living or dead. I have to wonder why he didn't leave it to her to get his dream finished. I can see why he only left the other two siblings a pittance, but he left her the same amount and she was the special one. Doesn't add up. I realize that if she can get the property finished and up and running then she gets a good deal but she still owes the loan shark $250,000. That is a lot of room renting!!! Maybe I just don't understand business.

I really liked this hero and I liked the storyline. I just got pissed off with the heroine. He was giving up everything for her dream and she didn't even appreciate it.

This was the freshman effort by Ms. Maloney. For the most part well written and entertaining.

A little bit of mystery and a little bit of Romantic Comedy woven together pretty well. The ending was a bit rushed but the book is enjoyable. If you know much about construction you might scratch your head quite a few times but with most books of this genre it is best to sit back and just enjoy the reading. The author has created the lenses she wants you to view the world through and logic or how things are really done don't always make for the best story.

Will look forward to seeing more from this author.

Enjoyed watching the progression of the characters as many back stories came to a surprising culmination. Enjoyed the main characters journey to her true real self and her love interests own pathway to his own.
