Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

Diabetic alert dogs can detect when a diabetic’s blood sugar level is too high or too low with amazing accuracy (often 10 -20 minutes before their blood meter). However, the cost of purchasing a professionally trained diabetic alert dog can run as much as $20,000- making it an impossible dream for many families with type 1 diabetic children. The Ping Project proves that diabetic alert dogs can be trained at home, without the need of a professional trainer, and only the cost of having a dog in the household. Follow step-by-step how a family with a ten-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes trained an abandoned puppy to be a diabetic alert dog, and his best friend and faithful companion This book takes a different approach, often involving the child in the training process, while keeping it simple enough for the person with only a small amount of dog training knowledge to follow. The Ping Project was not written for professional dog trainers; it was written for the mom, dad, or diabetic that is interested in training their own dog.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A Great Resource 22 janvier 2017

This is a great resource for training a diabetic alert dog. I am an experienced trainer and I am training a DAD for our home and found this book to have simple, easy to follow steps with a great emphasis on staying positive and having fun. A strong bond is critical in a DAD and your dog can not fear you for any reason. The book is to the point and not filled with unnecessary basic training info (like a lot of other specialty training books are).

I have been using this book to train our dog to be a diabetic alert dog. I found it very informative and easy to follow. My dog is doing very well and she actually seems to enjoy the training.

One difficulty that I have experienced is that the Kindle version seems to have some formatting issues. My Kindle Fire will go page after page of blank pages before I get to the next page of the story. It's very frustrating. It seems to be related to the pictures since that's when the issue arises. I would have returned the ebook for a refund but then I found that I could read it just fine on my iPhone and my iPad, so I switched to only reading it on those. My 5 star rating is on the contents of the book itself.

The breakdown for accomplishing the personal training of a diabetic alert dog for a child is done so well in this book. I loved seeing the pictures showing the simple but important games for the scent training and the obvious bond established between the child and his dog. Valuable and insightful book!

I have read many books on scent and diabetic alert dog training but this is the best. I believe it will even work to teach cats to night alert for lows. (which ours did without training, and is much easier to sleep with than a dog.)

My son is 24 and has lived with Type 1 Diabetes most of his life. He monitors his blood sugars frequently ( more often than prescribed by his insurance ) He tends to get low more often than not and now that he lives alone he needs a DAD. Like a lot of people we cannot afford a dog from expensive training programs. Hence I found this book while researching how to train a DAD. I love the simplicity and ease of following your instructions. Before I had my children I volunteered and was training my GS in search and rescue. I found your book one of the best in this training. I am eager to start a dog with my son. Thank you for making this possible!
