Présentation de l'éditeur

After Elizabeth Bennet refuses Mr. Darcy's offer of marriage, it takes a heavy toll on him. He withdraws to London and disappears near the docks, away from family, friends, and acquaintances. When he is mistaken for an escaped pirate, he is thrust into an adventure he would never have imagined. Will this be what he needs to forget the one woman he had come to love?

When her aunt and uncle have to cancel their plans to tour the Lake District, Elizabeth Bennet has the opportunity to sail to the Isles of Scilly with her father. After a pleasant visit, the voyage home brings storms, a shipwreck, and pirates! When she is rescued by gallant Captain Smith, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him. What will she do when she discovers he is the very man whose offer of marriage she refused just a few months earlier?

Kara Louise is one of my favorite authors but this storyline appeared to be too weird for me. Fortunately I read another review that gave me the courage to read it and I do not regret it. It’s a great book!

The story is indeed very different and difficult to believe in the beginning, however, as we continue to read, it becomes more believable.

For me 2 main premises seamed strange before I read the book, the way the author wrote them was actually believable.

First – Mr. darcy portraying a pirate? Yes, it sounds strange, but the book explains how this could happen very well, and it is actually charming. It is not that strange as it might appear if you have not read the book.

Second – Elizabeth does not recognize the man who purposed to her only 2 months ago? Again, it sounds strange, but it is very easy to believe it. When she sees Mr. Darcy impersonating a pirate, he has long hair, long beard, and an injury above his eye which is completely covered. Apart from that, he speaks as a commoner (something he learned before) and is in the Mediterranean, so it is not obvious that it could be Mr. Darcy. Also, she always things something is wrong, that he appears to be familiar, and discovers his true identity only after a couple of days. So if you’re thinking about not reading the book just because of these 2 premises, give it a shot. The author is very good and did a great job explaining everything so the book is actually believable.

For me, the strangest thing in the story is the fact that the characters only take 2 or 3 days to go from Italy to England by boat.

The book is very good.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Welcome to the Jane Austen Popcorn Extravaganza! 31 mai 2013
Par Angie Kroll - Publié sur Amazon.com

What was the first thought I had when finishing this novel? This story should come with a bag of popcorn and a package of Twizzlers.

Pirates and Prejudice takes Austen's beloved characters and sets them on the high seas. Darcy has let himself go after Lizzy's refusal of his marriage proposal. No, seriously...he's let himself go. So much, that he's mistaken for a ruthless pirate. Darcy agrees to help the authorities capture the pirate by impersonating him. Soon, his path crosses Elizabeth and her father. She doesn't recognize him, but he sure reminds her of someone with which she once had mistaken impressions.

The author at times seems more like a cinematographer and screenwriter. I stopped in the middle of the book to look up the Isle of Scilly, because I wanted to see the sunrise David, Elizabeth, and Melanie saw. This isn't so much a Pride and Prejudice variation as much as a summer popcorn movie. Does the premise seem a bit silly? Yes! Do we care? Heck, NO! Just pass the popcorn and watch Darcy/Errol Flynn sweep Elizabeth/Olivia de Havilland off of her feet.

It's a good thing that I don't have to wait till the novel comes out on DVD to 'see' it again!

When I first read this I was just starting to enjoy the world of JAFF. Admittedly, this was too unbelievable to me at that time. After having read dozens of variations, I really enjoyed this after I reading so many duds. I would probably be considered a non purist. Any story that injects some
humor is a plus for me. Perhaps I had read too many dark, depressing or disappointing variations. I loved Darcy in this story. Could have been the image I had of him in his Captain Smith attire! Anytime Darcy is out of his comfort zone-love it! There is drama from new situations and which characters, with only a small dose of Wickham. Of course there is a lot of internal struggles and confusion that ODC are experiencing. I also appreciated a longer version once they overcame their obstacles. So many stories seem rushed at the end. A fun, clean, different variation that I really found enjoyable.

The Dread Pirate Darcy!

If it takes a thief to catch a thief, does it take a pirate to catch a pirate?

That is the rational of the Edward Foster of the Thames River Police.
Darcy has been mistaken for the pirate Lockerly and imprisoned.
Foster realizes he is not Lockerly but asks that Darcy impersonate his double in an effort at re-capture.

Elizabeth and her father have sailed to visit his sister on the island of Scilly.
On their return voyage, they encounter the real pirate Lockerly.
It’s the fake Lockerly who must come to the rescue of his love.

How long before Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet recognize Darcy?
How will they escape Lockerly and his crew?
How can Lydia and Wickham be involved with a pirate?

This is a great tale of adventure on the seas and romance on the land.
Anyone who likes JAFF would enjoy this story.

Long before we saw the sea, its spray was on our lips, and showered salt rain upon us.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Does not disappoint 29 mai 2013

Kara Louise is one of my favorite authors in the JAFF realm. She writes books with real romance in them that are clean and can be recommended to anyone (be it grandma or niece) without blushes. Her Darcy and Elizabeth characters are true to Jane Austen's and are a pleasure to read. All of her Pride and Prejudice variations are unique and even believable. I have long awaited her new release Pirates and Prejudice and it did not disappoint. It was true to her previous books in that it was full of beautiful romance, humor and delightful situations.

A delightful tale by Kara Louise, who always presents an interesting story; and they are always very different, besides; it shows she really thinks over her plot, and it is obviously for the most enjoyment of her Readers. I had hesitated, however, to read this, it seemed an odd theme for Our Dear Couple; but I read a lovely review on Good Reads, so thought to purchase it. It turned out to be quite the story, with all sorts of surprises, with Mr. Darcy as a Pirate, Captain, a hero, and finally just Mr. Darcy. Our Lizzie was also quite a heroine during an actual boarding by real Pirates, and her quick thinking helped win the day. Eventually, Lizzie and Darcy had a chance to repair the disaster of the Huntford Proposal, and shared their wedding day with Bingley and Jane as obviously Rate always intended! A Fun, Enjoyable Good Read.
