Présentation de l'éditeur

"Eden's unsurpassed creativity shines once again!"--Larissa Ione

An Old Flame

Cassie Armstrong has plenty to atone for. The daughter of the most immoral researcher ever to pick up a scalpel, she's determined to use her own brilliance in genetics to repair the damage her family has done to the paranormals. Especially Dante, the first of the phoenixes, the one they call the Immortal. He's been haunting her dreams since she was a little girl, and she's been trying to ease his pain for almost as long. If only he remembered any of it. . .

Dante doesn't know what Cassie's story is. He almost doesn't care. The minute he sees her, all he can think is mine. But there's more to the pretty little doctor than meets the eye. And Dante isn't the only one to notice. He can't trust her, but he can't stay away--and if he wants to learn her secrets, he's going to have to fight like hell to keep them both alive. . .

HASH(0x978c1dd4) étoiles sur 5 Weakest book in the series 1 décembre 2014
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur
Format: Format Kindle
I struggled with the rating on this one, between 2 and three stars. I ended up giving this 3 stars because of the other books in the series, this book is about 2.5 stars. This is the third in the series and So far its also the weakest book in the series.

The story felt a bit rushed. I wasnt invested in either Cassie or Dante so it was hard to care about either of them. Cassie's father wanted to use Dante's dna to make super soldiers, and Cassie wants to use his dna to cure people that her father experimented on. Neither one of them bother to ask Dante how he feels about being used so I can understand his ambivalence.
Where Cassie's father and brother kidnap Dante and hold him against his will, Cassie just says "oh there you are, I'm going to use you to help people. You dont want to be used? Dont worry this is different, I'm the one using you. How I am different? I'll explain later." That was one of my biggest issues with this book, although she has ample time to explain the situation as she sees it to Dante she doles out information piecemeal, and then she wonders why he doesnt trust her.
The romance novel "misunderstandings" felt forced here. I half expected Dante to say "listen I'm too old for this nonsense, just give it to me straight."
Cassie was annoying at times, I dont care if bad guys with no moral compass get hurt or killed. We know from earlier books the only way to stop them is to kill them, because they want to continue to torture paranormals, and some vamps are truly sadistic killers. Cassie keeps assuming they are confused, even when she sees concrete evidence that they know what they are doing and dont care.
If the definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome, then Cassie is nuts, just cray cray crazy. Her schtick of "I know he is trying to kidnap you so he can torture and kill you, but maybe he has a family." Or " I know they are trying to kill us but let's not hurt them, maybe they dont know they are trying to kill us, they could be confused. They're not confused? Oh well I still dont want to hurt them", made her seem too stupid to live.
It was also silly for all that she's seen and knows to be true, when Dante tells her about herself she dismisses it as impossible. It was nice to see characters from earlier books, but I skimmed through the book from the 65 percent mark. I love this series and even though I'm on a budget I was tempted to pre-order this. I'm glad I got this from the library first. I may buy this to complete the series but only if the price comes down a lot.

HASH(0x978c1e28) étoiles sur 5 Good, but my least favorite of the series... 26 août 2014

Playing with Fire by Cynthia Eden is the 3rd book in her Phoenix series. This one focuses on Dante, a Phoenix shifter, and Cassie, a genetic scientist and sister to, Wyatt, the bad guy from the first book. I’ve read the previous books in the series and this one is my least favorite of the three. I still liked it, just not as much as the other two. My main issue is that I just wasn’t a big fan of the hero, Dante. He was so callous most of the time that I had a hard time liking him. He’s lived for so long that life is no longer precious to him. He took it and other people for granted. He had no sympathy for the plight and pain of others. Poor Cassie has loved him for so long but he kept breaking her heart when he couldn’t remember her. Then when he started to, he would remember events that paint her in a bad light when taken out of context. He also made it seem like he was only drawn to her because of what she was. Fortunately he becomes more likable towards the end of the book, when he finally begins to realize his love for Cassie.

Playing with Fire is a fast paced book. The villains are numerous and betrayals run rampant. Psychosis seems to be the norm for the villains in this series and it continues in this book. On the plus side, the story was entertaining and held my attention throughout. The characters are unique and I enjoyed learning about them, particularly the Phoenix’s. Overall, it was a good read.

I would recommend Playing with Fire to fans of the Phoenix series.

4.5 Stars

Loved it! Playing With Fire is a fantastic paranormal romance read that sucked me in and kept me going until the very end. I think this can be read as a standalone despite being the third in the series. I haven't read the first two books yet and felt like whatever information I needed from the previous books was given to me in just the right amounts to completely enjoy and be engaged in this one. But I definitely want to read the first two now. The concept of a shape-shifting phoenix is completely fascinating!

This storyline was action-packed, full of intensity. We've got people chasing Dante and Cassie, trying to either capture them or destroy them. We've got the damage control Cassie desperately wants to complete. And of course we have a very complicated relationship between Dante and Cassie. Throw in lots of other crazy paranormal people and situations, and this book took me on a wild ride.

As for Dante and Cassie, I really liked them. Actually, I loved them. They are damaged and difficult, but also determined and dynamic. Their relationship was fascinating, and I loved the twists and turns Eden threw in there. Add in the fact that Dante and Cassie have some seriously intense chemistry going on, with a heat beyond just his phoenix fire. This couple is hot!

Simply stated, I loved this book. It had it all - action, intensity, romance, trepidation, heat, and a fantastic ending. I love Cynthia Eden's writing, and look forward to more books from her.

Title: Playing with Fire

Series: Phoenix Fire Book #3

Author: Cynthia Eden

Genre: Paranormal/Romance

Thoughts: The storyline for this one was very original, and the fact that it dealt with the elusive 'phoenix' was a plus - something you don't see a large amount of in paranormal books. This is the third installment in this series, but it was the first that I have read. I found no issues with reading it as a standalone, however, and I didn't get that irritating, niggling feeling that I was missing something while I read it from having missed out on the first two books.

The characters were likable, the story was engaging, and all in all it was just a good solid story. My only complaint would be how many times Dante is killed and resurrected throughout the book - it was perhaps a tad excessive (the poor guy!). Well, and perhaps Cassie's naivety and one-track mind on saving people - even when it puts themselves in more danger. Eden manages to keep you on your toes, however, with this book, and it is definitely an enjoyable read.

I received this for an honest review~

In a world where mythological and paranormal beings walk amongst humans is where the books setting lies. With this untapped resource of exotic DNA how can scientist and doctors not be expected to play.

With bettering mankind on the brain that is exactly what Cassandra Armstrong’s father accomplished. He made his test subjects stronger by tying their genetics to these anomalies weather they wanted it or not. Until it all went terribly wrong. Cassie’s father had intentions of making a stronger human race, a race of people that can stand toe to toe with these new Immortals walking among them. You know what they say “Hell is paved with good intentions”.

Cassie held her body as still as she could and wished, so very badly, that her father hadn't brought her back.
Because in those moments. She’d enjoyed death.

Among the study cases was Dante, Cassie was drawn to him from the very first encounter.
Dante is a primal being born of fire and flames a Phoenix. Each death takes its toll, after years of dying and rising up through the ashes each birth is different, Dante risks losing his memories and at times his sanity. Cassandra Armstrong is bound and determined to make right the cruel wrong doings of her family. Seeking out Dante is her only hope to heal her closest friends… Phoenix tears have a potent healing ability; I mean if they can raise the dead surely they can cure anything.

Problem 1) the only thing Dante remembers upon see her is Cassie killing him and let’s just say that doesn’t stop him from being fixated on his need for her.
Problem 2) Is Cassie’s ex-fiancé Jon Abrams, who is all hoped up on crazy ambition to poses her and her abilities then maybe the world he’ll kill everything in his path.
Loco in the cabeza for sure!

Dodging bullets and keeping a very primitive male from burning the world down around her isn’t Cassie’s only struggle, what if everything you knew of yourself was a lie? That deep down you are more than a sweet alluring Vampire killing machine.

Even without a background from the previous books in the series I had no problem whatsoever keeping up. Cynthia Eden has a sure view of an overpowering, dominating, headstrong male who keeps what’s his. Dante is a very intense character; I must say his possessive nature was a turn on to say the least. I thoroughly loved his burning it all to the ground attitude. The fast paced action mixed with the perplexing chemistry between them kept me turning page after page. I will be reading every book in this series.
