Dernier tome de la série The Girl in the Box.

It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of Robert J. Crane’s work. Plus, he’s a funny guy (have you seen the interview I did with him earlier this year) AND he interacts with the fans. Personally. All whilst keeping up a frankly manic release schedule.

But all good things must come to an end. We’ve watched Sienna kick various meta ass, whilst also occasionally getting her ass handed right back to her on a plate. She has lost family, found family and then lost it again. She has voices in her head. No, really, actual voices – they haven’t so much been telling her what to do as….well, heckling. Oh, and she has to save the world from a homicidal megalomaniac with meta powers. Like, almost ALL the powers. With only a relatively small, tight knit band of support. Oh, and a non-meta (Agent Li) who doesn’t really like her much. Keeping up so far??

So, I approached this book with some trepidation. Would there be a “cop out” ending? Would this final book in the series stand up tall against the previous books??

Hell yes.

This book is a powerful, soaring conclusion to what I consider to be an absolutely epic series. It charges along like a juggernaut, leaving the reader very little time to regroup and catch their breath. And the finale? Well, all I will say is that the series goes out with a bang, not a whimper.

I’m sad to see the end of this stage in Sienna’s story. But, I’m thrilled that Crane did it justice.

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review

HASH(0x9bb0a138) étoiles sur 5 Read to My Heart's Content Reviews: Power by Robert J Crane 9 novembre 2014

My Thoughts:

This was the all time best naming of a book ever?!!! Sienna definitely comes into her power in every single way possible and I couldn't be more happier for everyone. She is finally able to pull every piece of herself together to do what has to be done, in a way that I was totally not expecting. Believe me, you will be re-reading this book a few times. I did. And every time was like the first. I have to say this book was probably my favorite book of all time. I loved the ending, loved the beginning and middle.
And the action is over the top beautiful and flawlessly graphic; which we love of course. If you picked up the that first book, Alone, and fell in love with Mr. Crane's writing style and genius then Power will make breathless with adoration. Everything comes full circle and I enjoyed every freaking minute of how everything falls in place and unfolds the way it does.

I don't know what to say without giving something away. All I can say is if you have vested your time in any of these books, then you owe it to yourself to finish the series. Power will blow you away with twists and turns surrounding it. Sovereign will surprise us but Sienna does too. And we get a new character, Harper, that I hope we see again in the future. Please!
But just say the action doesn't get you (are you crazy?) well the humor will definitely grab you. All the books , except maybe one, has the classic Sienna snarky humor that I love. Honestly, I think Sienna and Vaste would get long so well in all their snarky goodness.
{Vaste is another character from another series of Crane's I fell in love with first}

I just...really I am speechless. I loved this book sooooo much and I don't really want to say too much to give it away. Let's just say that you need to read the book! Like right now!

I would prefer to give it a million of stars, hearts, anything I can get my hands on; but alas I only go up to five hearts.
I think my Destiny, though, is to own this entire series in paperback as well as digital. The authors I absolutely adore, like Anne Rice, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, goes in a special bookcase in my home. Well guess what? I am getting this series in paperback and it will have its special place there too.
Well done, Mr. Crane. Well done.

OMGOSH!!! I loved it! It had so many twists and turns, I didn't want to put it down. BRAVO. Ok, my pain has eased from Zack's death. I am anxious to find out who the secret people mentioned at the end are. I wonder if one of them is Scott's aunt...hmmmmm

Thank you for a phenomenal read!

HASH(0x9bb051ec) étoiles sur 5 Fun series but it won't be a regular read for me. 28 janvier 2015

I just completed "The Girl in the Box" series and I have to admit I really enjoyed reading them. The story was fun, the action was well done and the diversity of the characters personalities made them interesting. I read the complete 10 book series in just over two weeks, which speaks to both how fun they are to read and unfortunately how short the books in this series are. This really should have been a 5 or 6 book series at most. I know a lot of people complain about the price but $35 for a 10 book series isn't bad, even if some of the books are really short.

My main issue with this book is the absolute lack of character depth and detail. By the end of 10 books I would expect to know more about the characters, especially the main group. I know more about Sovereign and Janus than I do about Sienna, Reed or Scott. There were so many opportunities missed to really give depth to these characters and the author failed to seize them. For instance, why not have a chapter where Reed tells Sienna about their father, they would have been something nice to share with the readers. What ever happens at the end with Sienna's mom (Sierra), is she buried or just forgotten. There is zero depth to these characters, they all come across as very shallow because by the end of the series you still know nothing about them. If the author had added more to the characters, the books would have been longer and the series would have been much better. As is, there are just too many huge holes left in what should have been a completed story.

My second issue is that there is a lot of repetitiveness in this book. It happens a lot with dialogue, with fight scenes and with storyline. The characters make the same mistakes, win battles the same way and make the same snarky comments. There were a lot of parts I felt I could have skimmed over because I had been there before.

My third issue is that Sienna really comes off as nothing more shallow, snarky, distance teenager that can kick butt. After the time that has passed in these books and I realize it has only been a few years, she really doesn't mature or grow at all. By the end of the series she was one of my least favorite characters which is sad, since you know, she is the MAIN character.

Even with my complaints I really did enjoy this series, I just don't think it will be one that I regularly read. I have book series that I read constantly, my favorite (13 books so far) I have read at least a dozen times. This will be a series I will probably read again but probably not for a long time. I am torn at this point on whether to start the "Out of the Box" series to see if some of my issues get resolved. I just don't think I can justify spending the money after this series.

So to summarize, yes I would recommend these books because they are fun to read, have characters with fantastic powers and story flows well. If you want something to pass the time this is a good series for that. If you like a well defined storyline, characters with depth and well written dialogue well you might not want to spend the money. I don't regret purchasing or reading the series, I just wish there was more meat on the bone.

HASH(0x9bb054a4) étoiles sur 5 Sienna vs Sovereign...the end of an era 14 août 2014
Par Cheryl M-M - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
It has been a long tumultuous road, filled with death, torture, pain and hardship, and that was just the fun side of things.
The girl we met in book 1 Alone has grown into a young woman. A leader of people, a killer of all that dares stand in her way, and above all she has finally caught the end of the tigers tail she has been chasing.
An understanding of why, when, who and the what the hell for, and the knowledge to destroy the one person who created all the questions in the first place.

After all Sienna has been through, after all she has lost, and those hits just keep on coming like a shark hunting bait, will she be able to peer through the screen of destruction and see the light? Will she succumb to the ultimate power and the life being offered to her on a silver platter?
Jigsaw pieces come together to make the picture complete. Unanswered nagging questions from the very first few pages of the series are answered ten-fold and more.
Sovereign decides to try a different tack to convince Sienna. His actions create suspicion, disbelief and then a dangerous level of acceptance and complacency seeps in to the minds around him. The enemy becomes friend, the foe become a divided Korea and Sienna's merry bunch of hybrids become a tad confused.

Sienna wouldn't be such a popular character if she didn't throw us for a loop and make a leap in the complete opposite direction. In the end she is complete. The past has taught her well and she is able to envisage not only the future, but also finally understands the connection between herself and Andromeda.

Of course the same goes for Crane, he also wouldn't be such a popular author if he didn't know exactly how to keep his readers on their toes and guessing backwards like an episode of Jeopardy does Metas.

The end of the book holds a surprise revelation in regards to Sienna's fate. Unexpected to say the least. I have enjoyed and devoured each and every word of this series. Kudos to Crane for that.
