Présentation de l'éditeur

Book 1 of A Southern Thing series.

Star football player, Jack Miller, had it all. The perfect family, looks, girls hanging on his every word, and the respect of most people in his town. But one thing was missing--a man to be his own.

When Andrew Collins showed up in small town, conservative Sweet, Georgia, he looked more scrawny mutt than high school senior. Andrew's plan was to keep his head down and graduate high school, leaving his family behind to start his real life.

When he meets Andrew, Jack thinks he's found heaven, but reality holds him in check until one night when his lips gently slide across Andrew's and fireworks go off.

As lust and something a little deeper brings them together, compelling them to take chances, people start to notice. Then the unthinkable happens, and Jack's parents find out he likes guys. The battle lines are drawn and they vow to pray the gay away.

Don't miss out, read all four book in the series.
Book 1 Pray The Gay Away
Book 2 Sending Jack Off To Jesus
Book 3 My Big Fat Southern Gay Wedding
Book 4 Billy

2.0 étoiles sur 5 that I just can't recommend it. For one thing 21 juillet 2014

This book started out entertaining, but had some serious flaws that lead me to say, regretfully, that I just can't recommend it. For one thing, there is a huge amount of "telling" within the story. We're told how the characters feel and what they think is at stake over and over and over in basically the same words every time. It bogs the story down and dramatically adds to the length of the book. For another, the dialogue can run toward being too expository and precise, which makes it feel very unreal, and the characters themselves can get a little cartoonish in their embodiment of stereotypes.

I don't think that all of that would have put me off reading the next book entirely by this author, except that... this story is not complete. There are chapters and chapters of rising action, a bit of a climax, and then... the book just stops. The entire last, oh, quarter of the story is missing. Curtain drops, game over, buy the next book to find out what happens. I didn't think I was buying a serial or an epic, I thought I was buying a romance!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A good read - that is incomplete 23 mars 2014

Had this been the full story I would have given it four stars.

Inform potential readers if the book is part one in an intended series. Allow them the courtesy of making an informed choice if they want to buy half a book. I was enjoying the read and wasn't paying attention to how far into the book I was and then it suddenly ends.

The story line is good and moves at a fast pace. At times it is a bit over the top by reinforcing stereotypes to an almost cartoonish level. This is not necessary and acts as a distraction. Editing is good with no obvious spelling, grammar, plot or time-line errors.

....and say "WAKE UP ALREADY!" First off, this story of Jack and Andrew is amazing from start to middle to happy m/m ending! (I just finished the 3rd and final book of the series.) But for this book in particular, I kept saying life shouldn't still be this way. I'm not gay and I've honestly never experienced the kind of gospel beat downs so many young gays must go through every Sunday. I mean imagine sitting in church, believing in God but being told he doesn't love you and no one else will simply because of who YOU love? In this book, Jack actually hears this almost every second of everyday because his own Father is the preacher! But by the time he meets Andrew, he's at the point of knowing what he wants, knowing God didn't "make a mistake" and knowing Andrew was made just for him. I loved that he was protective of his Andrew right off the bat! Andrew needs him in so many ways and he see's this in more ways then one. I understood that they had to hide in plain sight and I hated every minute of that for them. I truly felt Jacks anger over the fact that he couldn't do something as simple as kiss Andrew goodbye in the parking lot or squeeze his hand just to say "hi" in the hallway at school. Such common, loving gestures that any straight couple can do on any given day anywhere! Andrews parents are simply straight out of the gates of hell as far as I was concerned. I'm not going to give anything away...and having read all 3 books, I'm not exaggerating. They are evil. My heart hurt for Andrew and wanted to move him into MY home just to free him. Andrew and Jack find first love with each other and it is beautiful surrounded by ugliness. Read this book and then move on to the gets even better!

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Horrible 20 août 2014

This book was an extremely unsettling blend of juvenile writing and explicit sex scenes. What teenager do you know that would say "I think I would like to wear ladies undergarments"? The timeline was a joke - hi I'm Jack...we've talked like two or three time, know absolutely nothing about you but I'm going to be your boyfriend and spend the rest of my life with you. Ok sure. Even the characters were poorly written. Definitely will NOT be bothering to read the next book in the series...heck, I somewhat regret finishing this one.

This coming of age novel is about two young gay men trying to navigate the Bible Belt. Jack and Andrew are high school students that come from very religious back grounds where being gay is the ultimate sin. This emotional read depicts how ignorance and intolerance is dangerous. Ends in bit of a cliffhanger but not too dramatic.
