Présentation de l'éditeur

This new edition of Pro C# 5.0 and the .NET 4.5 Platform has been completely revised and rewritten to reflect the latest changes to the C# language specification and new advances in the .NET Framework. You'll find new chapters covering all the important new features that make .NET 4.5 the most comprehensive release yet, including:

  • .NET APIs for Windows 8 style UI apps
  • New asynchronous task-based model for async operations
  • How HTML5 support is being wrapped into C# web applications
  • New programming interfaces for HTTP applications, including improved IPv6 support
  • Expanded WPF, WCF and WF libraries giving C# more power than ever before
This comes on top of award winning coverage of core C# features, both old and new, that have made the previous editions of this book so popular (you'll find everything from generics to pLINQ covered here).

The mission of this text is to provide you with a rock-solid foundation in the C# programming language and the core aspects of the .NET platform (assemblies, remoting, Windows Forms, Web Forms, ADO.NET, XML web services, etc.). Once you digest the information presented in these 25 chapters, you’ll be in a perfect position to apply this knowledge to your specific programming assignments, and you’ll be well equipped to explore the .NET universe on your own terms.

What you’ll learn

  • Be the first to understand the .NET 4.5 platform and Visual C# 2012.
  • Discover the ins and outs of the leading .NET technology.
  • Learn from an award-winning author who has been teaching the .NET world since version 1.0.
  • Find complete coverage of XAML, .NET 4.5 and Visual Studio 12 together with discussion of the new Windows Runtime.

Who this book is for

If you’re checking out this book for the first time, do understand that it's targeted at experienced software professionals or graduate students of computer science (so don't expect three chapters on iteration or decision constructs!).

It is perfect for anyone who is interested in the new .NET Framework 4.5 and the C# language. Whether you are moving to .NET for the first time or are already writing applications using previous .NET versions, this book will provide you with a comprehensive grounding in the new technology and serve as a complete reference throughout your coding career.

If there was only one book to read about .Net, that would be the one. Covers absolutely everything in depth, every single .Net developer should read it.

My background is in Java and C++. The book takes you through C# and .NET from the beginning. Some knowledge of programming is probably required. I found the book interesting, easy to understand and actually quite an entertaining read. The examples are simple, focusing only on illustrating a single concept at a time. So the examples were really easy to follow. Great book for learning C# and .NET

HASH(0x93622654) étoiles sur 5 This is the best C# book currently available 22 novembre 2012

Mr. Troelsen's book is the best resource currently available (Nov 2012) for learning C#. His writing style is easy to follow and his examples are error-free. The "Pro" in the title means that this book is not intended for absolute beginners who have never programmed before. If you have prior experience with C# or another object-oriented language, then you will probably have no trouble reading this book. But if you are like me with limited programming experience then another introductory book (I like Microsoft's Step By Step) should be read first. I really like how each topic is presented, starting with the long drawn-out way to get things done and finishing with the elegant shorthand syntax which C# seems to provide for every task. By doing this, I am able to appreciate how well designed the C# language really is. I also like how the examples build on each other as you work through the book. Finally, this book is up-to-date and very complete. It should make a great reference book.

Have been waiting on various new books to drop including MVC in Context and others that brings together all of the new techs in one place to give you the wholelistic view of modern day Worlds best practice coding standards. Honestly did not expect the wealth of technologies covered in this book

Walks you through the evolution of the syntax and implementations as they have evolved over the years. Puts a light on how and why the changes took place by progressing from 1.0 => 4.0 and then finally spins out the 4.5 add ons (Delegates & Async Programming just to name a few)

Easy to digest without missing out on the detail which is missing in so many books
EntityFramework
Dependency Injection
Generics

Helps fill in the gaps you have in your knowledge set by providing the complete answer

Is the reference bible of "How to Do It", even if you use it as a tool to confirm that what you are/have been doing is WBP (Worl Best practice)

Is part Reference Bible & Recipes & Patterns & practices in One, It does not get much better than this

HASH(0x93622bf4) étoiles sur 5 Broad coverage, nice flow, medium depth 27 octobre 2013

I really like this book! Let me tell you why. It covers a broad scope of the subject of C# with .NET, going into medium depth, and flowing nicely from chapter to chapter. I discovered that it provides both the framework and material for a good self-study program. The author communicates very clearly and provides many example projects with enough detail to let you either use them as tutorials or just read through them.

While I often just plunder through online and printed references looking for nuggets of information to solve specific technical problems, that is not how I used this book. Instead, I spent about 4 months working through the book from cover to cover, aiming for more breadth of knowledge on the subject.

I bought the printed book, and then bought the eBook from the publisher for a small additional cost. Working through examples, the PDF version was great for reading on a second monitor, cutting and pasting the example code into Visual Studio. (The sample code is also provided as downloadable files.) The printed version was great for back-yard reading with a highlighter, pen, and beverage as supplemental equipment.

The example code worked and the text was well-edited and accurate. A few typos in the final chapters caught my eye but were easy enough to read through. There was one important snag in the section on ADO.NET, where Microsoft has deleted the Database Diagrams feature that the author's example relies on to establish the relationships between database tables in a database that is used throughout the remainder of the book. Fortunately there are plenty of online references that will help you to work around this.

This book is an excellent resource for experienced programmers who want to learn the breadth of contemporary C# and associated parts of the .NET framework. The depth of the coverage on each subject will take you to no more than a medium level of knowledge, so if you need to go deeper you'll want to find other resources. With about 1600 pages in the body of the book, it provides a nice balance of breadth and depth.

HASH(0x936229b4) étoiles sur 5 Level of detail a little unbalanced. Kindle version has severe copying limitations 4 mai 2014
Par Frank McGowan - Publié sur Amazon.com

Good book all in all. A couple of issues. The content of the book could be a bit better balanced in terms of progressive tuition. He goes way into (not totally necessary, but nevertheless interesting) deep levels of detail early on and throughout the text. You have to wade through over 30 chapters of this before you get to know how to design a form using WPF. "Bake the cake first then add the topping" style of tuition taken to the extreme. Still an excellent body of knowledge.

The Kindle version is extremely limited when it comes to copying source code snippets. You highlight some formatted source code, attempt to paste it into your IDE, and it goes in as one long unformatted string complete with the copyright message. This is an Amazon Kindle/Publisher deal. Of course the entire source code comes with the book, but sometimes you want to grab just the portion of code under current discussion to tinker with in the IDE. One of the first things I did was to write a little app that will reformat the copied code for you. (I'd be happy to share this for free with anyone who wants it.)
