Présentation de l'éditeur

The Process of Investigation, Third Edition, is a book written to address the needs of the private investigator in the security field. Continuing in the tradition of its previous editions, this book covers essential topics which are often overlooked in works that concentrate on the public aspects of investigation. Investigative skills such as surveillance techniques, interviewing and interrogation, evidence, and confessions and written statements are all discussed, and supplemented with updated case studies and examples from the authors’ own experiences.

Major revisions to The Process of Investigation include mention and coverage of the effects of 9/11 on the security industry, the need to incorporate awareness of terrorism and terrorist activities when investigating any suspicious behavior, and two completely new chapters. Chapter 10 discusses interviewing and interrogations, and is written by Doug Wicklander and Dave Zulawski, premier experts in the field. Chapter 23 addresses the issues of workplace violence, and includes coverage of stalking, domestic violence spillover into workplaces, red flags, and the Theory of Threat Assessment and Management (TAM), among other topics. Additionally, other more minor modifications in legislation that have been passed and implemented since the last edition are addressed throughout the book.

  • Serves as a valuable reference tool for both the student and the professional
  • Contains practical information that can be utilized in real-life investigative situations
  • Includes two brand new chapters about interviewing, interrogations, and the Theory of Threat Assessment and Management

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Not for the average investigator 24 septembre 2010

This book is a must read for any business owner that is dealing with theft or other security issues. It is also a great read for investigators that deal with invstigating criminal activities and conducting undercover investigations in the workplace.
The process of the "what, how, who, where, when, and why" concepts were also an interesting read. However the real world background investigations and surveillance investigations sections were a joke. This book is a great read but, in my opinion, is not something that should be used as a guide for any investigator starting out in the field and for anyone looking for general topics of investigations because "newbies" in the field will receive inaccurate information on how real world investigations (especially surveillance) are conducted.

If this book would be titled to make me believe that it was for corporate investigations and/or corporate and criminal case solving it would receive 5+ stars from me. However, since it leads me to think that this book is for overall investigations it only receives three stars.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An excellent reference for both the new and the experienced investigator. 10 août 2008

"The Process of Investigation" is an excellent reference for both the new and the experienced investigator. The book is filled with useful information, case examples and formats that can be directly applied to your own investigative work.

"The Process of Investigation: is divided into five major sections:
1. Fundamentals of Security Investigation
2. Methods of Security Investigation
3. Building a Case
4. Applying Investigative Strategies
5. Technological and Specialized Investigative Techniques

Although I have been involved in security and investigations for many years, I still found "The Process of Investigation" to be a very useful reference, and one which I now use when teaching investigation classes.

Highly Recommended!
