Présentation de l'éditeur

Adapting characters from Jane Austen's much loved tale, this novel takes Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy on a much different journey than Austen did in Pride and Prejudice.

Through their fathers' friendship, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy meet as children. Over the years, their feelings for each other grow and they promise themselves to each other, but unfortunate circumstances and interfering family members seek to keep them apart.

Will misunderstandings and mistaken impressions divide Elizabeth and William forever?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wonderful What-If Story! 9 juillet 2011

I absolutely loved this story!! It was so wonderful to see a younger Elizabeth and Darcy. The solid love the two shared was heartwarming. Although there were many obstacles that kept these two apart, they always stayed true to their love. We get to see old Mr. Darcy alive for a bit, a more responsible Mr. Bennet, some very horrible Fitzwilliam relations (Uncle and Lady C, yikes!). The "love scenes" were very sensual but not graphic. Overall it was a beautiful story and I would recommend it to anyone.

Wendi Sotis has written a wonderful story of a love that endures despite the appearance of broken promises and betrayal.

The story begins in a bookstore where a young, precocious, intellectually gifted Elizabeth meets and consoles a grieving Fitzwilliam Darcy. Their friendship grows as they are sometimes in company due to the long-standing friendship of their fathers. Eventually, many promises are made. Obstacles threaten to derail the plans of our seemingly star-crossed lovers. Will they remember the vows they made at Pemberley? Will their relatives keep them apart? Will they discover the truth that has made communication between them all but impossible? Will their love survive years of separation?

I fell in love with these characters in the opening of this tale and was totally drawn into their story as it unfolded. I highly recommend this story to Pride and Prejudice fans who love alternate reality stories. It's a big "What If...," but one that is totally engaging.

I can only hope that Wendi has more stories to share.

Wendy Sotis has written a wonderful, engaging, What-if love story.

It begins when a 15 year old grieving Fitzwilliam Darcy meets a young, bright Elizabeth Bennet. In this story, it turns out that their fathers were classmates and long-standing friends. Their fathers continues their friendship while Elizabeth helps Fitzwilliam deal with the death of his mother. Their friendship grows into love and he asks Elizabeth to marry him. When he seeks Mr Bennet's premission, Mr Bennet request Fitzwilliam wait for 8 months till Elizabeth is 17 years old. Allowing her to one coming out season. Fitzwilliam with a heavy heart agrees.

Unfortunately for our dear couple, 8 months is a long time. During that time- death, fire and interfering family members are some of the obstacles that keep them apart. Add years of separation and miscommunication, misunderstandings threatens to separate the young loves for good.

I highly recommend this Pride and Prejudice What-if love story. It is a story about how true love can find a way despite interfering family members and adversity.
Beautiful, beautiful story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic!!!!! 27 mars 2012

I fell in love with Pride & Prejudice when I read Ms. Austen's Masterpiece in High School for English class (I am originally from Sweden), and I was re-enchanted with the story after watching the BBC version from 1995 (Colin Firth is the one and only). After watching the mini-series, I searched high and low for anything to slake my thirst for Lizzy and Darcy. In the beginning there weren't many choices, but in the last 5-7 years, there has been an abundance of books from any aspect and perspective. I have probably read over a 100 variations by writers such as Abigail Reynolds (love her); Kara Louise (lover her); Lory Lilian; P.O. Dixon (love...!); Jan Hahn; Brenda Webb (LOVE!); Pamela Aidan (very good); Regina Jeffers; Linda Wells; Mary Lydon Simonsen; Summer Day; Sara Angelini; Susan Adriani; Sharon Lathan; Shanon Hale; Amanda Grange; Nancy Kelley; C. Rafe Carlson, I could go on, but don't want to bore you!

This book is FANTASTIC!! I loved (LOVED) everything about it. I do not want to give too much away and ruin the awesome experience of the unexpected, but I agree with many of the previous customers who have given the book Five Stars. Wendi Sotis did the unexpected and made me fall back in love with Lizzy and Darcy. It was a new and fresh approach to an already well told story. I havn't been this excited about a P&P variation since I read Brenda Webb's book (Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man). All I can say is: "READ IT"! I can't wait for her next book "Dreams & Expectations" which is due sometime this spring (2012).

1.0 étoiles sur 5 promises is a pride and prejudice minus sensible plot and good characters. save your money...this book is not worth reading 7 septembre 2011

this is the worst Austen-inspired novel I read so far. The idea of giving a twist to the story by having the same basic stream of events as in the original book but with a different interpretation is per se interesting.
Unfortunately the outcame is pathetic: Mr. Darcy CRIES a lot (really...tears flowing) and throughout the entire book he is either injured or recovering from an injury or crying....not my favorite type of hero.
Elizabeth is portrayed as a woman extremely intelligent (she can memorize books over books, speak fluently 6 or 7 languages, treat people for all the most common injury and disease and so on) with amazing social skills and shockingly beautiful...can anyone imagine anything more perfect than this (and less real)?
in general all characters miss the complexity they had in the original book...they are either good or evil but nothingh in between...
Plot is flat and not very believable (I mean seriously, how is it possible that all these supposedly brilliant characters take 3 years to figure out that the postal service is not working??? are you kidding me??) and in general it looks like Sotis applied the sensibilities of the sturm und drang movement to pride and prejudice coming up with a"darcy-werther" hero that is frankly just ridiculous.
CONCLUSION: save yourself some money and don't buy this book.
