Présentation de l'éditeur

*** This book contains strong themes that make it suitable for a mature audience only ***

Mace Jordan was not the type of guy I expected to sweep me off my feet. I knew of the crowd he ran with, and they were bad news. But beyond that tough, biker exterior was a sweetheart, and one that treated me like his princess.
I liked being the good girl with the bad boy, but I never expected this. What I saw on his computer…I thought I knew him.

But I was wrong. So wrong…

If there was ever a bad time for me to fall for a chick it was now, but from the moment I saw Leeta, she had me. There was something special about her, and I had to have her. But I also had a job to do, and I couldn’t let her distract me from that. I couldn’t let her discover that side of me either. But she’s not stupid, and I know she’s getting close. God knows what she’ll do if she discovers the truth.

Or what she thinks is the truth.

-SPOILERS-

So i do love this author & read several of her book where i fell in love with the hero making me want more! THIS STORY, NOT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE!
Yes shes writes well but the story , like the hero are disgusting! Lets see.. When i read one of these books i wanna fall in love with the hero & think about him nonstop & want more! Well sure that could happen for u with this book if you like a "hero" whom is a nasty guy who had a sister who was raped & killed (that parts awful) so he decides that WHILE having a girlfriend he would seek revenge by sleeping with tons of prostitutes on video for pedophiles to try & find this rapist. (Sounds like a cop out to sleep around if u ask me' i mean his sister died theres nothing to gain) there are tons of other things he coulda tried! After sleeping with each PROSTUTUTE he would go home to her. So she finds out, never breaks up with him, they fight a lil, he continues with the videos & prostitues while sleeping with her! THEN she freakin volunteers to be the "victim" he sleeps with on video & he AGREES puttin her in extreme danger & sure enough they get caught & she gets hurt & violated! Ohhh yea he LOVES her huh?! Then hes perceived as this big HERO by the end! Im all for alphas, bad boys, dark stories, etc. but this was just gross & she was no strong confident heroine, she was weak as hell. Pass on this one if you want to love the hero & consider him hot! Sorry this was def NOT FOR ME!

HASH(0x9a2373d8) étoiles sur 5 Plot twist that I didn't see coming! 18 mars 2014
Par Candace Sigmon - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
This book was definitely a 4 1/2 stars!

This book made me rapidly blink numerous times. I couldn't believe the twist the story took. It was so unexpected. I read the teasers and was curious. I contacted Missy and she sent me a copy. I was delighted! Lately, I have been venturing into some books with darker story lines and this one fit the bill.

Provoke starts off fast with Mace and Leeta who seem to be in a solid relationship that is both loving and nurturing. Leeta is a prosecutor and seems to be the consummate good girl. The only time she has deviated from the straight and narrow is Mace. Mace is the son of famous (and behind bars) gangland killer. His brother is also in prison for various crimes. Mace seems relatively clean and on the right side of the law. He owns a repair shop and seems to love Leeta with his whole heart. Their chemistry is through the roof and you enjoying reading their scenes. The worst part is you are inevitably waiting for the ball to drop because you know the happily ever after can't start so early in the book.

When Leeta discovers Mace's huge secret, it is mind blowing. You are left speechless. I was so torn up and couldn't decide whether to love or hate Mace. The reader will totally empathize with Leeta. I didn't see the plot twist coming. I can usually smell them a mile away but not this time. Well done, Missy! A quote from Mace sums it up:

This was so much bigger than her and me, and I wasn’t going to apologise for that. The thought of hurting her in any way tore me up inside, but I wasn’t going to back down on this.

The situation is messy and I was glad to have both Leeta and Mace's POV. The book wouldn't have worked without both. I felt horrible for Mace because he clearly isn't a bad guy but he has a very screwed up family and his secret is killing him. He never wanted to lie to Leeta but he was trying to do the right thing.

The book is not very long but still is extremely fast paced. I stayed up really late and read it in one day which I need to stop doing but the storyline just grabbed me. I really wish it had been longer and quite honestly, I am hoping that she is going to write Cash (Mace's brother) story. Read this book, dark storyline with some steamy romance.

HASH(0x9a233810) étoiles sur 5 Entertaining, but not my favorite 19 avril 2014

Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

Leeta is a twenty three year old that has the world on a string. She is a recent law grad that has landed an amazing job with what is essentially the district attorney’s office. She is getting ready to wrap up her first case as the solo prosecutor and the sky is the limit. She has an amazing boyfriend, Mace, that she has been with for six months and is ready for him to meet the parents. Unfortunately Leeta’s parents are incredibly conservative; her father is a retired Army colonel and her mother is the consummate officer’s wife.

Mace is crime family royalty. After losing his mother at an early age, he deals with a father and brother whom are both incarcerated, and a baby sister that committed suicide a year prior. While it would have been easy to fall into the same lifestyle of crime as his father and brother, Mace is committed to staying out of trouble as the owner of a motorcycle repair shop. Leeta isn’t the kind of girl that Mace usually goes for, what with her being a lawyer and all, but there is an instant attraction between the two of them and the past six months have been good.

The first third of the book reads like sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes. It’s not that it wasn’t hot, Ms. Johnson certainly knows how to heat things up, but it didn’t really seem to do anything to advance the storyline, or prove that there was a connection between Leeta and Mace, other than physical. With so much at stake for Leeta to pursue a relationship with Mace, you would think there would just be…more, between them. It isn’t until the storyline really starts to pick up at over the 50% mark that we really see that connection is there, even though at that point the relationship is in jeopardy.

There were some plot twists that I certainly didn’t see coming, which I completely appreciated. They certainly kept me engaged and interested, and you couldn’t help but feel for Mace and know that ultimately he was doing what he thought was right. He was certainly a likeable character, especially given what he has been dealt in life. The plot was questionably realistic, but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of it.

Provoke is a solid, entertaining four star read. It is well written, and the characters are well-developed with a storyline that keeps you interested, however Leeta’s lack of maturity really started to grate on my nerves after awhile. It got to feel a little angsty, which is a bit of a turn off for me. While I can understand Leeta may have had trouble understanding and processing what she thought she knew, she could certainly possess the maturity to communicate with him. Provoke was a quick, easy read, and while not the best Ms. Johnson has given us, it is certainly worth your time to pick it up.

HASH(0x9a0a05ac) étoiles sur 5 Packs a lot of punch in not a lot of words. 21 mars 2014
Par Jodie's W.I.N.E. List - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is a rather short book that packs a lot of punch. It has a darker story line that kept me on the edge of my seat for a most of the book. The book starts out with an intriguing scene that piqued my interest.

Then there seemed to be a jump in the story line. In the first chapter, Leeta and Mace are in a stable relationship so we don't get to experience them meeting and falling for each other. Not saying this isn't a romance book, it is. It just isn't the beginning of their story. Honestly, although I didn't feel like the development of their relationship would have be critical for the story line, I am curious how these two came together...maybe prequel idea (HINT HINT!). How does a prosecutor end up with a member of crime family whose father and brother are in jail for their crimes?

A lot of times, the time of the characters getting to know each other is my opportunity to become connected with them. So the fact that we missed that part worried me at first, but after the first chapter or two, I didn't miss it. There's enough interaction between Mace and Leeta for me to feel their love and devotion.

This story was more about how they come to build the trust in their relationship. Can their feelings for each other overcome Mace's actions. His motives are honorable, but can Leeta look past the actions and focus on the results. One the action starts, it moves quickly. Hence, the need to read it one sitting.

I received a complementary copy of this book as part of a virtual blog tour in exchange for an honest review.

SUMMER'S BOOK BLOG

Leeta is a lawyer who lived a safe life coming out of a bad break up with her boyfriend Ben she was happy… until she met Mace Jordan. With his father and brother in jail and his sister’s death weighing on him, he is accepted solitude… until he met Leeta.

Falling instantly for one another Leeta decides after a few months it’s time to introduce Mace to her unaccepting parents. Since his family is known for being criminals it’s hard for people to accept that he is different.

But is he?

While his intentions are good his delivery is terrible. I loved Mace despite what he was involved in. I felt myself going through the same reactions as Leeta as I read this story. I was hurt, and angry and disgusted with Mace but found myself forgiving him chapters later. Well done Missy!

This book has it ALL! Dark subjects, jaw dropping moments, and a couple that you can’t get enough of. I enjoyed this book so much! I didn’t realize how fast I was reading until I looked down and it was over.

This is a must read!
