5.0 étoiles sur 5 Outstanding Reference for Beginners, too! 4 juin 2000
Par Sarah - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I am a beginner quilter but this book was absolutely perfect! I spent hours in bookstores pouring over each reference book available. This is the best one I found. Every page is in full color. This guide has wonderful pictures and step-by-step instructions to help you understand each technique. It teaches you color selection, fabric selection, quilting patterns, applique techniques... You name it, it's in here. My first experience with quilting was not as intimidating as one might think. Because of this book, I am well on my way to finishing my first project and it is BEAUTIFUL!. DO NOT PASS THIS UP!

This book was recommended by a dear friend after sharing my desire to learn the art of quilting, but with the overwhelming selection of material, products, books, magazines and kits available, I was completely lost and had no idea where to begin. All I knew is I wanted to start off with the right tools and resources to avoid frustration and inevitable failure which surely would have caused me to quickly give up. However, giving up wasn't and isn't an option. As a child, I remember the many days sitting upon my grandmothers lap at the sewing machine learning 1/4 seam stitching after selecting fabric from her massive amount of fabric stash as she was always being commissioned to make quilts for many, many people. One man paid her a little over $5K to make a wedding ring quilt for his daughters wedding. My grandmother was the fifth generation of quilters and learned from the best. Unfortunately, at a young age my mother moved me many states away from my grandmother, oh how I missed her and still do, as she passed a few years ago. I never was able to spend the time needed to absorb all the knowledge she had to offer. This book however, brought back many memories of the way my grandmother use to quilt. Seeing the techniques used and step-by-step illustrations, a fire inside me was reignited, the confidence returned and I felt like my grandmother was beside me guiding my way. This book is not a book to read and put down, it's a reference guide, one that you will want to keep withing reach of your sewing machine and will use for years to come. Thank you Ellen Pahl for writing this book and capturing all the visuals needed to follow along with confidence. Purchasing this book will be the best decision you'll make if you really truly want to become a confident quilter.

After checking this visual guide out at the local library, I knew it was such a gold mine that I had to have my own copy. Amazon had a used version that sounded like a real value, offered by Jensen. When it arrived in only a very few days (thank you, Jensen!), I was delighted at the wonderful condition--much better than the library's copy which was itself in good shape. Bindings are tight, it's clean, and best of all--no unsavory smells!
If you're a beginner or have been quilting ten years or more like me, you'll definitely find a treasure trove of ideas here: new ideas, and classic ones presented more clearly than I've seen elsewhere. Photos do help!
This book even made its way to my bedside table where it is often read just before lights out! It's a gem.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Not just for beginners-The Quilters Ultimate Visual Guide 4 juillet 2010
Par Anne Nonn - Publié sur Amazon.com

I don't think there will ever be the day that I feel there is no more to learn. And so very true with quilting. That is one of the reasons I really enjoy this pastime. There is always something new to learn, you meet great people who may know a different way to do something you have been doing, and they make it easier for you.

Also with quilting, there are so many different techniques, and I have friends who are into trapunto, crazy quilts, English paper piecing and the list goes on. We all find our "nitch" and go with it. This book covers probably the broadest variety of different quilting methods and how to techniques, that I have seen in a long time.

Ellen Pahl did an excellent job of coordinating at least 60 very well accomplished quilters to make this book a must have.

And in her introduction, she expresses the goal of this book. It is much as I have always believed, there are many different ways to do the same thing and as well as there are many different areas of quilting, that some are much more experienced in, and they have been gracious enough to share their knowledge in a format that with the great photos and diagrams.

From A to Z, whether you are new to quilting or have been quilting for many years, this book will have many things of value to you. I just love this book-I know this one will not be collecting dust on my bookshelf!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Just what was needed! 6 mai 2011

I have been trying to teach myself to quilt over the past couple of months and decided this book might help toward that end. I am definitely a visual learner and I was delighted when I first opened the book. It was just what I needed! The pictures and illustrations are terrific and clear; the explanations and instructions are well-worded and thorough. I am sure I could have looked up some of the topics online but oftentimes a beginner doesn't even know the terminology needed to do the research. This book provides a well-organized, ready reference between two covers on most of the topics I will need...at least for a while. I am well-pleased that I decided to buy this book.
