Revue de presse

"With Sarah's program I lost weight and regained energy. Life without sugar is much sweeter than I ever imagined it would be." -- Shauna Ahern, Gluten-Free Girl

Présentation de l'éditeur

Australian media personality, Sarah Wilson, was addicted to sugar. She needed it every day. She convinced herself it was “good sugar”. But sugar is sugar. And it was making her sick, tired and bloated. She set about researching all the different ways to quit the stuff. It took a while. But in the process she found what works — for good – and developed an 8-Week Program that follows simple techniques that are kind, sensible and totally work.
This book’s for you if:
• You’ve tried to quit on your own and can’t get past the first few days (there’s a very important reason for this, which we’ll be sharing!)
• You’re tired of feeling sluggish, bloated and stuck and want to try a new way (you might just be curious to see if sugar is the culprit…why not?)
• You want to lose weight (because, yes, the Program will help you do this, too!)

The book offers:
• A sharp 8-Week Program that walks you through each crucial stage, week by week
• A tidy, easy-to-relay-to-mates-at-the-pub explanation of how and why sugar is making us fat and sick
• A sugar replacement plan: tested and nutritionally sound
• “Sweet” sugar-free recipes
• A detox and suggested supplements list

What others say about the I Quit Sugar 8-Week Program:

I cannot believe the impact this program has had on my health and energy levels. My skin has improved, I am sleeping better, I have energy all day and I no longer have the feeling of being constantly hungry. I found the program really easy to follow, and the ‘be kind to yourself and experiment with it’ approach really worked for me. I have lost 5kg since starting the program and the only change I have made is to get rid of the sugar. So thank-you Sarah, the 8-Week Program has been a kick-start to me leaving sugar behind forever. – Jane

It was an absolute revelation to me, breaking the sugar addiction. Also felt the benefits in energy, being alert all day without the after lunch slump, and losing brain fog. There was a lot of information shared with recipes and alternatives, and opportunities to ask questions, which helped greatly. – Vikki

My blood sugar was 10.7 mmol. Scary stuff for a person with a predisposition to diabetes. I had Hashimotos and Celiac disease. So I downloaded Sarah’s book and read it in a night. I binned all processed foods and concentrated sugars and noticed immediately a huge difference in the behaviour and focus of our children and then really amazing things started happening to me. I am off my thyroxin, no longer pre-diabetic and I am managing my Hashimotos with food therapy and lifestyle. – Jackie

HASH(0x9a5afd98) étoiles sur 5 First book on healthy eating that has taken root for me 13 avril 2012

I knew sugar wasn't good for me, and I knew I ate too much of it, but giving up sugar is something I never considered. Sugar is both personal and social for me, and not eating it sounded wickedly depriving and isolating. Not to mention impossible. So I read this just out of curiosity, not so much believing I would do it. Sarah gives the idea of quitting sugar (specifically, fructose) a spin that piqued my interest. She doesn't claim you absolutely have to eat any certain way, like most books. She approaches the whole thing as an invitation to experiment, and shares the reasons she quit sugar, as well as the ways that she eased into the experiment herself. For the first time, I wondered how much sugar was really affecting me, and whether it might be interesting to try and find out. So the book made me curious, then followed up with a slew of ideas and tools to make a sugar-free experiment feel possible. Tricks, recipes of tasty things to try, things to look for on labels, ideas about what can replace sugar in your day, a list of foods you can take shopping, things you can say if you get hostile reactions from friends, ways to find a path for yourself. She keeps reminding you to do it curiously, gently, not rigidly the way other books preach. She gives a very useful 8 week outline with helpful ideas for each week, but every bit of it is open for your own personal experimentation. No guilt. I think that was the most appealing part of her approach for me - there is no shaming attached, no absolutes about the right way to eat the rest of your life, no "diet" mentality or mention of a required weight you have to reach to feel good about yourself, no guilt trips for making mistakes. Just the invitation to see what happens after 8 weeks. The idea is that at the end, once your system is cleared of sugar and you've learned about your own body in the process, you are really free and informed to choose the way you want to eat. So this book accomplished something I never saw coming - it put me into the right mindset so that going sugar free for awhile was actually exciting rather than painful for me. Four weeks into it, I feel myself getting healthier and couldn't be happier that I found her approach. The book is short and easy to read, and I like a lot of the recipes she shares. The only negative things about the book for me are: some of the recipes use metric measurements because she is Australian, which confuses me a bit, and occasionally she uses names for ingredients that I am not familiar with. She relies on nuts and coconut in many of her recipes, which I love, but my husband hates coconut and my son doesn't like nuts so they don't always want to eat what I am eating. But she encourages experimentation and personalization anyway, so I'm figuring out what works for me and my family.

I found this book was way to simple and based on little to no science, manly just the authors opinion. There wasn't a lot of research done to back up her claims and ideas. I was very disappointed at the simplicity and size of the book, I read it all in about 45 minutes and I'm not a fast reader. I feel like this book is purely a money maker for Sarah and I would advise you to read sweet poison by David Gillespie (who Sarah references a lot) if you want the real deal. Worst $10 ever spent.

I congratulate Sarah Wilson on her determined approach to encourage peoples' "wellness". I can attest to the strength of her message and overall marketing prowess, I was one of the suckers who bought her e-bundle! When I woke up and saw the light I realised that, in my humble opinion, Sarah Wilson's entire philosophy is flawed. This is not the forum for an argument but google "I quit sugar and eat saturated fat instead" to get the idea.

So, fundamental philosophical differences aside, let me try and be objective here. This book is amateurish and poorly written. It is short (40 pages) and set-out like a sanitised issue of Cosmo. It is far too broad and does not give any actual break-down as to how to cut out sugar properly. The weeks are glossed over with glib tips proffered such as "if suffering a mid-afternoon slump (from lack of sugar), go for a stroll in the park". Or "Feeling fidgety and anxious? Have a pot of green tea and burn some incense." Genius.

The obvious reason for the lack of depth is that the author has a more detailed, step-by-step plan available to purchase for $150 (steak knives not included). So of course she's not going to give away all her secrets in a cheap old book.

As far as evidence-based advice and value for money is concerned, this book is sorely lacking. If you want to reduce your sugar intake and finances allow, seek the advice of a nutritionist/dietician/health professional or jump on the net and find something that suits you. Just watch out for fads (can be down-right dangerous to your health) and whack-jobs (can be downright dangerous to your wallet). I should know, I was scammed like a true fool!

If you want to feel better and look better, then try this plan. I have been following her plan for two weeks and already lost belly fat, sleep better, and feel better emotionally. The choice for wellness is up to me and I no longer want to feel depressed, bloated and FOGGY all the time. I had no idea sugar, fructose specifically, was having such an overall negative influence on me. It is pervasive and insidious. This book offers a lot of good info. in a fun format and I am inspired - as are all my friends and some family members, too! I highly recommend you give it a go. Even with a brief attempt, you will get a glimpse of true wellness. Isn't that what we all want?

I'm on my third week sugar-free and was feeling like I needed some direction since I'm sort of going it alone, and doing the best I can. I had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately it was not at all what I expected. The summary promises shopping lists and step-by-step plans for an "8-week program" to quitting sugar, and that's about as far from what this book is as can be. Sure, she does list items that she keeps in her house, but it's certainly not a prescribed eating plan, and to be honest, I felt just as much in the dark about quitting sugar AFTER reading this book as before. She does go through 8 weeks, but each week is filled with general suggestions about how to handle the week, and the pages are mostly filled with rambling about her own experience, without much insight into how to deal with quitting sugar on your own. I was most certainly not impressed with this book, and wish I could get back the $10 I apprehensively spent on it in the first place.
