The Demonica series returns....

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before . . . to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood . . .

I purchased this book in the mid PM of 12/17/2013 and finished it, with a few brakes, in the early AM of 12/18/2013. This book had me sad, happy, mad, frustrated, laughing out loud, guessing, and cheering on the good guys and the seemingly bad guys on, to say the least. I love a good book, that can take me on a roller coaster ride that is all over the spectrum of emotions; and this book took me on a great ride. I will not go into the details of the book since they already have been provided in the comments already but I do recommend picking up the first book in the Demonica/Lord of Deliverance series, "Pleasure Unbound". If you are like me you will want to get to know the family of characters, who make reoccurring roles all throughout the book series.

Larissa Ione, Demonica/Lord of Deliverance series totals now 10 books:

1. Pleasure Unbound............ Eidolon and Tayla's story
2. Desire Unleashed............. Shade and Runa's story
3. Passion Unleashed ......... Wraith and Serena's story
4. Ecstasy Unvield................ Lore and Idess's story
5. Sin Undone....................... Sinead and Conall's story
6. Eternal Rider.................... Ares and Cara's story
7. Immortal Rider.................. Arik and Limos's story
8. Lethal Rider..................... Thantos and Regans's story
9. Rogue Rider.................... Reseph and Jillian's story
10. Reaver............................ Reaver and Harvester's story

Happy reading!!!1

Addition Warning: I meant to "inform" all, that this series does have torture in many forms. Please be aware because it does include rape, mutilation, and flesh eating to say the least, by demons, demon dogs and other demonic thingies; not in all the books mind you, so this series may not be for you. While some torture is touched on briefly, some can be kinda graphic. I would want to be forewarned myself of such so I could make a choice to read (and purchase)such things, not be surprised, then upset and out bucks.

When it comes to complex, engaging characters and unforgettable story lines, Larissa Ione is in a class all her own! I've been reading paranormal romances for years and while sadly some series' have lost my interest, Larissa has been the complete opposite! Every book gets better and better and honestly she set the bar very high with Reaver, both the book and the character. I REALLY didn't want this book to end, it was that good! Easily the best book Larissa Ione has ever written, Reaver gives fans what they've been waiting for.

In true Ione fashion, Reaver begins with an almost impossible situation: Rescuing Harvester from an eternity of torture at Satan's hands. Getting in isn't the problem though, it's getting out and that's where things turn interesting for Reaver and Harvester. They've spent years fighting tooth and nail, all the while denying the lust that has been boiling just beneath the surface. Now that they're stuck in Satan's domain together, fighting for their lives, they not only have to work together, but they have to begin trusting one another. When Harvester tells Reaver about her fragmented memories of an angel she once loved, he knows he has to be completely honest with her, even if it means she'll kill him. From there things only continue to get worse as Satan's forces come after them and an old enemy plots to destroy heaven itself.

This was such an amazing book and my mind is so full of this story that I honestly don't know where to begin with this review. Of course I don't want to give anything away but that's proving difficult because there are loads of revelations, some I knew were coming but most caught me completely off guard. Poor Reaver, I'm surprised his head didn't explode with all the answers he ended up getting.

Can we talk Reaver and Harvester? Am I the only one who didn't think they'd ever be able to get along, much less be together as a couple? They have so much baggage and so much hate towards each other that I was amazed at how seemingly easy it was for Larissa Ione to give them several opportunities to redeem themselves in the others' eyes and make room for a new relationship on top of the ruins of their old one. This book was all about revelations, redemption and forgiveness, but the themes never bored me or felt like a sermon. Speaking of hot, Reaver and Harvester singed my eyebrows and eyelashes off thank you very much. Those two shot sparks off each other for so long that when they finally do give in to their lust it was like a mini explosion. Every. Single. Time. Can you say "Puddle of Hormones?"

The careful attention to detail gave Reaver a more realistic feel but it also kept every single original character the same as they've always been. Sure, each character has grown and learned from their mistakes, that's called character growth but can you imagine if Wraith wasn't the same Wraith or if Limos stopped being Limos? Or worse, if Reaver was totally different in his own book than he was in previous books? *shudders* That would have just ruined things completely, but thankfully they're all the same smart ass, obnoxious and lovable dysfunctional characters we know and love.

But it wouldn't be a Larissa Ione book without death, destruction and general mayhem and that's exactly what you get with Reaver along with a very well done set up for the next book (yay) in the series. The way Ione shoved a secondary character into the spotlight with a shocking revelation ensures that she'll get and keep readers' attention for the next book. I can't wait for that one.

Although Reaver can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the Demonica series then the Lords of Deliverance series first so that you can get the full impact and experience all the emotions I know I did regarding Reaver and his life. Plus, those books are just so freaking awesome that they shouldn't be missed.

HASH(0x9acbcf60) étoiles sur 5 An outstanding addition to a brilliant paranormal romance series 17 décembre 2013
Par Lesley (My Keeper Shelf) - Publié sur Amazon.com

Larissa Ione's Lords of Deliverance series has been one of my favourite paranormal romance series of late. Every book in the series has been thrilling and full of action with some pretty inventive smexy scenes along the way. Every time I've finished a book it immediately becomes my new favourite in the series, they have all been that good and Reaver is no exception, it was absolutely OUTSTANDING!

Larissa pretty much teased us throughout Rogue Rider of the possibility of a little something between Reaver and Harvester. Reaver is the angel with a past, the watcher and father of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, fellow watcher Harvester is the angel who gave up her wings to work undercover in hell alongside her Daddy not so dearest Satan. With Harvester's cover now blown she is being kept and endlessly tortured by Satan in hell. Larissa doesn't hold back when describing the torture Harvester has endured which makes Reaver even more of a hero in my eyes when he decides he's going to head into hell with a half baked but gutsy plan to rescue Harvester right from underneath Satan's nose.

Reaver and Harvester have a history stretching back thousands of years, they know they have some sort of a connection other than just a love hate attraction, but neither of them quite understand why. Reaver's memories have been mostly wiped so he doesn't quite remember what he did to Harvester and why and Harvester remembers a time when she was in love but can't quite put a face to the name she knows that hurt her so badly and changed her forever. It was agonisingly good as their story started to unravel. Harvester has always been bitchy, sarcastic and evil and I never really knew how much was her "in character" undercover or how much was her true personality and although we see a much softer side to Harvester in this instalment there's still plenty of sarcastic and hilarious banter between her and Reaver.

I knew starting Reaver that the path to Harvester and Reaver's happy ever after was never going to be a smooth one but I was beyond satisfied with their ending! Reaver has some pretty fantastic twisty plot turns that kept me on my toes and Larissa does a pretty amazing job of tying up all those loose ends as well as providing some pretty intriguing hints to where the series is heading next. As usual I will be eagerly counting down the weeks to the next instalment. Reaver gets a well deserved 5 out of 5 from me and has been added to my list of favourites of 2013.

HASH(0x9acc32d0) étoiles sur 5 I didn't feel any chemistry between them. No spark. 21 janvier 2014
Par Letitia - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
Rating: C+ ... Heat: Hot

I have been intrigued by Reaver since his days working at Underworld General, when he was simply a grumpy fallen angel trying to get his wings and his memory back. When we found out in Rogue Rider that Reaver was more than just a fallen angel—that he fathered the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—well, he only grew more fascinating.

Especially after it became clear that there were feelings and history between him and the Horsemen’s Evil Watcher, Harvester. Harvester is a true Fallen who may be bad, and do bad things, but she’s not exactly evil. You knew there was more to her than meets the eye. Plus, how could you not love the possibility of a heavenly Romeo and Juliet?

Unfortunately, my hopes for them fell flat. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. No spark. When the sexy times were taking place, it felt forced. No true heat. Like all of their intense passion happened in the past and we weren't privy to any of it. We had to accept that it was there and should still be.

That, combined with a very slow first half, made this a slow read. A very long time is dedicated to Reaver and Harvester trying to escape Sheoul. Which felt like run, fight, flee, argue, make out... and repeat. This was only broken up by the occasional other points of view (loved seeing Eidolon and the gang again!). The most interesting thing during that time was Revenant, the Horsemen’s new Evil Watcher. Something about him captivated me. Maybe his cockiness… or maybe his oh-so-eloquent way with words. He seemed like he could talk the talk and walk the walk.

The last 30% of the book is where things picked up and got really interesting. The information revealed and the dynamics of heaven and its hierarchy managed to recapture my interest. Plus, there was Revenant again. He definitely helped.

Overall, Reaver wasn't the book I'd been hoping for. Ione is known for her badass heroines (which she delivers on), her sexy alpha heroes who don't play by the rules (again, Reaver more than qualifies), and the intense lust and sexual tension between the two… which is where the problem lies for me. It was good, but not great. That said, every other book in this series and the Demonica series has knocked my socks off—so you can bet I’ll still be reading the next one. Bring on Revenant, please!

HASH(0x9acc34e0) étoiles sur 5 Larissa Ione's REAVER (Demonica series #10) - Oh, horns and halos! It's Reaver 2.0! 6 février 2014
Par Lori Parker - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Larissa Ione takes the "male + female = romance" formula and adds a witch's brew worth of unusual ingredients, which shouldn't work together. And, yet...

For example, much of this novel takes place in Hell. It's not the most romantic location, but, if there's one place angels' fear to treed, that would be the setting to include for the rescue of Satan's double-crossing daughter by Heaven's misfit, the father of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Just don't imagine that she'll be grateful. Oh, no- not Harvester. And with her powers returning as she heals, while Reaver's wane, there will be a reckoning.

"He loved that her shiny new halo hadn't crushed her horns." - Reaver

Now that the "mushy stuff" is out of the way, I can talk about the action. REAVER has the adventure feel of a video game, much more so than even PASSION UNLEASHED had, back in the series's infancy. Put together the team; infiltrate the stronghold; snatch the female; and run like...hell? Oh- did I mention doing all of that against explicit arch-angelic orders and so pissing off a very, very vengeful and powerful guy (whose name also begins with "R")? I suppose Reaver would say that he'd do it all over again to stop the destruction of Heaven. Yeah, probably. Getting his memories back and a mate certainly didn't hurt.

Reaver and Harvester's story includes spoilers for many of the previous Demonica books. All except one main character from them is present and playing an active role in the plot. I find myself wanting to use Demonica clichés and metaphors, and I stop to laugh, because no one else close to me has lived through the previous nine novels; I don't know if anyone anywhere has started and finished them all in the last six weeks. REAVER included, Ione's novels are a welcome escape from reality, usually involving more 18+ content than HBO in an entire weekend. If that's a problem for you, she's tamed her frequency of romance scenes down to any paperback Mom would have read, but Ione still left in her not-so-Mom-friendly HBO 18+ language.

The first Demonica book:
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1)

The previous Demonica book (#9):
Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance)

The next Demonica book (#11):
REVENANT (Expected in Nov. 2014)

* Novellas are not calculated in standard numbering of Demonica novels

** The Demonica series includes all of the books on Ione's paranormal alternate Earth, but individual story arcs, such as the Lords of Deliverance, may have an "additional" numbering sequence within that story arc only (i.e., REAVER is both Demonica #10 and LoD #5).
