Présentation de l'éditeur

Tanis Archer is facing a miserable twenty-fifth birthday. She's a part-time barista in her sixth year at Dallas Community College. Her life is going nowhere, fast.

Literally.

Because on her way to work, she loses control of her car and is killed in a horrific crash. That should have been the tragic end of her story. But days later, she wakes up on a cold morgue slab...and soon learns that miraculous resurrections have brutal side effects. For starters, there are people around her who look as if they are decomposing from the inside-out, victims of their rotting souls. Even worse, it's no illusion. What she is seeing is real, a shadowy part of the world where the bloody battle between good and evil is being fought every day by an ax-wielding "dead man" and his rag-tag army of supernatural freaks.

And she’s being asked to join him.

Obviously that's not how Tanis wants to spend her afterlife—she'd rather party with her new-found abilities—but an unimaginable horror is rising from the Black Sea, and she might just be the only person who can save humanity from an agonizing, never-ending nightmare...

Reborn features a fresh, colorful heroine in an action-packed, darkly funny tale of adventure and terror told by an incredible dream team of award-winning, widely acclaimed writers: USA Today bestselling author Kate Danley (The Woodcutter), Emmy Award–winning screenwriter and novelist Phoef Sutton (Cheers, Boston Legal),TV writer/producer and author Lisa Klink (Star Trek Voyager, Painkiller Jane), New York Times bestselling author and TV producer Lee Goldberg (The Heist, King City), and two-time Edgar Award–nominated writer William Rabkin (Monk, Psych).

This book was initially released in episodes as a Kindle Serial. All episodes are now available for immediate download as a complete book.

Reborn, the first Dead Man adventure in serial format, is off to a roller coaster start! I've really enjoyed the Dead Man series, but the broader canvas allowed by the Kindle serial format, totally takes the series to the next level. It was a real treat to read about Tanis Archer starting to get a grasp on the shadow world around her...while having no idea of the evil that she will soon be facing. Things are only going to get a lot worse in the pages to come!

A swift, well-constructed read...perfect for fans of all forms of pulp/pop genre fiction! Loved the close to the first episode...and I eagerly await episode two. Kudos to Lee Goldberg, William Rabkin, and the Dead Man writing team for a great start to the new direction for the series.

Reborn is the conclusion to the second season of The Dead Man series. Series creator Lee Goldberg talks about its genesis on his blog:

“About six month ago, I gathered all the authors at my house and we broke the story the way we would in a TV series “writers’ room.” …We had a white board up on the wall, plenty of junk food, and only a general sense of where we wanted to go narratively. And then we brainstormed….”

Reborn introduces Tanis Archer, a twenty-five year-old barista at a Dallas community college taking her time going through life. She’s half Greek, but has little to no memory of her father. She has a brother whom she respects, but endures life with her mother. It’s all typical Americana until her car goes out of control and she dies in the resulting crash.

But she wakes up days later on a morgue slab, much to the shock of everyone. She’s considered a miracle, but begins seeing people who resembles walking corpses. Psychiatrists can’t help and unknown individuals want to kill her. Her own brother comes at her with a chain saw. Fortunately, she makes a connection with Matt Cahill, the ax-carrying simple man of justice who himself has died and was reborn. With an army of mutant “freaks” in tow, they set off to do battle with the latest manifestation of The Evil which infests the world.

In this case, evil comes in the form of a sunken Byzantine ocean vessel which a research team has discovered on the bottom of the Black Sea. Against the better wishes of the captain of the ship a group of American archeologists are using, the ancient vessel is raised and the long-dead crew are taken on board. Naturally, the Byzantine crew doesn’t stay dead for long and proceed to slaughter everyone on board. Then they set sail with both vessels for the North American coast.

This is by far the longest Dead Man novel, nearly 300 pages in length. It was initially episode form as a Kindle serial: you paid for the entire book in advance, then received a new episode each week until the adventure concluded. It’s an older form of writing: Charles Dickens published many of his books as magazine episodes and would incorporate feedback from the letters he received into them.

I liked Tanis as a new character development. She has a lot of drive and wields a hammer just as fiercely as Matt swings an ax.I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of her.

However, I do hope Mstrs. Goldberg and Rabkin will return to the novella format they’ve used so excellently in the series. It allows many new writers a chance to play with a give character in a set universe. I’ve had a chance to discover writers I never would’ve read before. It was also nice to see some of my favorites given a chance to work with the Dead Man series. I hope this continues.

Let's start out letting you know that I am quite new to this genre. In fact, fantastical blood & guts books are usually avoided by me; any hint of it normally sends me fleeing. However, I am a Kindle Serials addict, and I needed to replace the book that had just finished: it was this or nothing.
I AM SO GLAD CIRCUMSTANCES ADDED THIS SELECTION TO MY LIBRARY!
The book was exciting, and truly kept the reader invested in the story. And, somehow, the authors actually made the story believable; not true to life, but believable in a fairy-tale sort of way. I would neither hesitate nor have reservations about reading future endeavors by these authors; indeed, I look forward to the opportunity.

HASH(0x90ded5a0) étoiles sur 5 Freakazoid power of the walking dead, hmmm..... 16 septembre 2014

The title tells the tale even though I never read the books before this one, I could follow the story quite easily. Definitely blood and guts kind of thing going on, non-stop action for sure. The horror, the bizarre scary monsters and oodles of suffocating gore. The characters I enjoyed immensely, especially Tanis ultimate kick _ _ _ female warrior. And for the male version, one and only ax swinging Matt the leader of the 'freaks.' Now creepers, freakazoid powers, zombies, waking up in a morgue? Matt welcomes Tanis, "Welcome to the world of the undead." Decay, worms, maggots, what more do you need to make this book off the charts of A Dead Man Adventure. Darkly funny tale of adventure for sure with terror as indicated on the backside of the book. Virologist, Genes interconnection, Genetic engineering, what a virus? Hmmm...... not telling! A dark-haired, fast-moving woman wielding what looked like a claw hammer, she grinned at Matt and said, "Welcome to the world of the undead." I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the action of violence which usually accompanies this kind of genre so yeah, great excitable read. I won this book on Goodreads, First Read Giveaway. Thank you, Darlene Cruz.
