5.0 étoiles sur 5 Perfect Guide to Helping A Professional Make a Career Shift 3 octobre 2015
Par Christian Knutson, P.E., PMP - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
For any professional who is contemplating, involved in, or not seeing the desired results from a career shift: read this book. I'll also suggest any officer retiring from the military put their hands on a copy of this book to understand the various facets that are involved in redefining who you are, why you want to do what you want to do, and how best to put this into the world. Dorie does a superb job of stepping us through a process to discover, structure, and then share ourselves with the world. Having retired from the military in the past year and making the transition from that persona to a leadership coach and strategy consultant, the book has provided me with several actionable steps to explore -- items that were not already in my action plan! Onward and good luck!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 What do you want in your career? Here's how to get it! 10 juin 2015
Par Douglas N. Burdett - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
The book has been out for a couple of years now and it's just as relevant as when it first published. Maybe even more so.

One of my favorite concepts from the book is that in today's world, reinventing you isn't optional. In other words, you can either reinvent yourself proactively and have a lot of control over the trajectory of your career, or you can wait for it to happen to you and let the chips fall where they may.

Let me ask you a question - if you're my age, are you doing the same job (or even profession) as when you first entered the work force? And let's say you just entered the workforce - how much do you want to bet that your career is going to take a lot of twists and turns?

In "Reinventing You", Dorie Clark helps you think about how you'd like to be seen in the world and then shows you how to develop a strategy to accomplish that. When I was 26 I decided I didn't want to continue my career as an Army officer. I ultimately got out of the army and went back to school and everything turned out fine. But during that career transition I learned the hard way a lot of the lessons that are in this book. I wish I'd had this book then.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A practical guide to true-to-your-heart success -- but you need to do the work 11 août 2013
Par Chris Abraham - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
I own both the Audible book and the Kindle edition; however, this book is a personal-branding textbook, so I will need to get a print edition. Why? There are so many tasks! If I follow the steps outlined by Dorie Clark, success will be mine! Or, if not immediate, stellar, success, I will surely know myself, my friends, my mentors, my protégés, and my colleagues a hell of a lot better -- and they will know me better. I will need the print edition so I can hunker down with a pencil, colored pens, a yellow highlighter, and a yellow legal pad and do my best impression of the brilliant student I once was.

Don't worry, Dorie Clark does hold your hand. Everything you need exists within the pages of this book. You really don't need any background. You just need to believe in yourself; and, if you're not quite ready to believe in yourself just yet, that you can believe that following Dorie's advice will allow you to fake it 'til you make. Just going through the motions will engender confidence as you see things starting to turn in your direction.

Success begets success.

Because Reinventing You works if you work it -- and if you put the time and energy in and actually do the practical work the book suggests, you don't need to be "already rich" or "already Ivy league" or "already the 1%" to find this book amazingly useful. Some reviewers accuse this book of being maybe too elite; however, I know Dorie personally and there's nothing further from the truth. She's down-to-earth and wants everyone to succeed.

In fact, people who have already been trained in the 360-degree feedback process might not get as much out of Dorie's book as someone who is new to all of this. And yes, Dorie does an amazing job of motivating, surely, but this isn't a motivational book, it's a work book and you really must do the work!

Do you have a mentor? Get one? Do you know how the people around you perceive you? "Ask, the here's how," writes Dorie in her book. And her advice is not just research analysis, either. She once scheduled a call with me and my business partner; and, when we took the call, she picked our brains about what we did, how we used social media, and about our innovations in communications.

And I guarantee she picked many, many, brains. I believe that Reinventing You is a synthesis of both her personal experience reinventing her own life mashed up with the experiences of all the people she interviewed for this book. If you are willing to accuse this book of just being a book by an elite for the elite, you've just got cold feet.

This book requests that you work through some personal demons, address some personal flaws, and expose yourself to a little critique. It suggests you expose yourself through your writing, through your teaching, and through public speaking -- don't they say that Glossophobia, the fear of public speaking, is our number one fear? Above death?

Don't worry, even I am dragging my heels when it comes to doing the homework required to extract all the self-improvement juice from this book, but I am unwilling to blame the book, it's all me.

I recommend this book highly and have been recommending Reinventing You to all my friends.

In fact, I recently spent one of my Audible credits on the gift of this book to my friend Aimee, someone who is preparing for the third act of her professional life -- and she's freaked out.

And, she needn't be: she's amazing, brilliant, passionate, and now owns the audiobook of Dorie's invaluable book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 If you're looking for practical tools to stand-out in the digital age, I'd highly recommend it. 6 avril 2013
Par Dustin A Watkins - Publié sur Amazon.com

Dorie is well-known for her expertise in marketing strategy. What I didn't realize was her passion for personal branding. It's an important topic, and one to which she's brings considerable professional and personal experience.

In this book, she offers practical tools to help ANYONE position themselves for success, helping others to understand who you are and the value you provide.

While offering deep wisdom on brand building strategies and tactics, the book remains very much accessible to lay people who don't have the time to dive full-in. Throughout the book, I found myself consistently thinking of friends who might benefit: a recently unemployed newspaper veteran, a church staffer transitioning to the non-profit world, a young professional looking to stand-out in her office, etc. Though comprehensive, it was surprisingly concrete and down to earth and gave lots of actionable advice.

If you're looking for practical tools to stand-out in the digital age, I'd highly recommend it.
3.0 étoiles sur 5 This book really leans towards reinventing yourself in the modern ... 4 avril 2017

This book really leans towards reinventing yourself in the modern age. Not that there is any thing wrong with that, but if your in the middle of a career, trying to get promoted, trying to rebrand yourself, this book might not answer all your questions. When I said modern age, this book really spends a lot of the book on managing your electronic part/social networking part of your life.
