Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

“Rescue" is the eleventh of a series of near future SciFi/Thrillers whose young heroine Ell Donsaii’s nerve mutation makes her a genius and provides her some astonishing athletic abilities. In “Rescue,” President Stockton tells the FBI to tone down its efforts to imprison Ell. Unfortunately, the SCDF, a group of ultraconservative survivalists now has the President in their sights. Their attack on the President succeeds far beyond anyone’s imagination. Could it be that Stockton’s very life will now depend on the woman she has been imprisoning and harassing?
Meanwhile, Stell Simsworth, the ten year old blind singing sensation, is hoping that Ryan will be able to use his technology to restore her eyesight and Carter is working on a project to colonize Mars (despite his daughter’s cogent observation that a colony would have high risks but provide few benefits.)

A solid and pleasant transition book where Ell will rescue the president from extremists. Looking forward to the next book to find out new exiting ideas from Ell.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Nice book, but felt like a place holder 8 mai 2014

I've loved the Donaii series since the first book, but this book felt like a tease. It felt like 5 minutes into reading the book I noticed that I was already half way through with it. I don't want to say the the book felt rushed but it did finish real fast. The most important plot (that's even inferred by the title of the book) was resolved super fast.

I still liked the book though and a few plot elements got tied up nicely. Laurence Dahners's has a really dedicated fan-base and I'm proud to say that I'm one of them.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 President Stockton Kidnapped and Rescued 22 octobre 2014

President Stockton is probably my least favorite character in this series, and for me she is simply not credible as an elected President. Nonetheless, she remains a key figure in this latest entry when she is kidnapped by a violent fringe group that is in cult-like thrall to a charismatic figure. Dr. Dahners tries to give the Stockton cartoon a bit more flavor, and he moves this book in a very different direction with his description of deaths during the kidnapping and, later, Ell using her ports in bloody combat to rescue Stockton.

It hardly spoils anything to say this is about the rescue, since that is the book's title, but I thought a number of weaknesses were exposed as Dr. Dahners strayed from his own comfort zone to write something like a thriller. As previously noted, his "feel" for our elected officials and our government agencies is not one of his strengths, but when he sticks to Ell and her gifts it doesn't matter too much. Giving President Stockton such a prominent role as Ell's self-appointed nemesis, however, makes his lack of familiarity more of a problem. The fringe group is a drawn from similar, real groups and I don't quarrel with the power of its leader's "hypnotic" speaking style. However, its initial success in planning and carrying out the military-like operation to kidnap the president stretched the bounds of credibility pretty far, and the wrapping up of the group afterwards was sort of anti-climatic.

Dr. Dahners is all about thinking through ALL of the implications of the ports invented by Ell, and as this episode demonstrates, he is willing to take that in new directions. I give him credit for trying, even when it is not a complete success.
5.0 étoiles sur 5 This is a good book and part of a great story 2 juin 2014

Although this book was not as long or deep as the other books in this series, it is a good continuance of the idea and story line. Very enjoyable to read and think about, a great escape. I found the idea of contacts that adjusted the perceived wave length hard to realize the depths of, we see only a small segment of the electromagnetic spectrum, flowers have many colors in the ultraviolet range which we see as mostly white, all elements absorb and emit unique to them light frequencies than would allow a user of such contacts to identify surface composition of anything also Doppler shift would allow knowledge of objects relative motion. The book doesn't go into such detail but opens the doors to many ideas. What if??
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Young adult escapism not too deep. 21 juin 2015

This is like rediscovering comic books all over again. The plots are pretty straight forward. Ell Donsai, the heroine is better than good. "with great power comes great responsibility". She is so sweet, so nice, so innocent, so good, while being smart, beautiful and athletically a superwoman that you feel like you should hate her on general principal but with one nice act after another you can't help rooting for her. She also comes form a struggling abusive background to gain further sympathy. With a mutant gene she has superhuman athletic ability, beyond genius IQ and the good looks to match.

The president acts like a spoiled child and insists Ell turn over all her technical secrets. Some of them are so dangerous Ell feels the government can't be trusted and refuses. Ell uses her inventions, her genius and her athletic ability to escape government attempt's to seize her inventions. The president acts illegally, uses secret service as strong arm police in another country (a potential act of war) , ...The president acts too stupid to believe and Ell misses easy opportunity to apply pressure on president by asking other governments to get involved. But when the president is kidnapped only Ell has the ability to save her with her inventions. Young adult escapism not too deep.

I loved the first book enough I went and bought the whole twelve book series and devoured them all in less than a week. Not as well written or character developed as for instance Honor Harrington series by Weber. But faster read and priced much more reasonably. Comparing to other strong female heroines just one small step down from classics like Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter, or Kate Daniels series by Illona Andrews, Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison... . about on par with Witch Fairy by Bonnie Lamer. Read this series in order for best enjoyment.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A Bit Disappointing 31 mai 2014

Felt like a filler book playing out a juvenile love interest. I mean seriously the love story was so lame I felt like I was reading about kids in junior high. Not much going on in this book outside of that. Overall the series has been good but there was almost nothing going on in this story.

At least there was no dancing scene in this story. Thank god!
