Présentation de l'éditeur

If you want to make money in the coming decade, you need to understand the two most powerful trends that are reshaping global markets right now: the growth of emerging economies, and the accelerating influence of sovereign wealth funds. Both trends share one crucial characteristic: they reflect the rising role of government actors, and make it more important for investors to understand geopolitics than ever before. These trends emerged well before the global financial and economic crisis, and that crisis has only strengthened them. In The Rise of the State, three leading investment advisors tell the hidden story of state investment power, and offer more than 70 specific investment recommendations you can start profiting from right now. The authors illuminate trends ranging from the new rise of Asia to the massive migration of individuals to cities worldwide - identifying implications and opportunities in areas ranging from energy to water, healthcare to education. You'll find powerful new insights into the surprising - and mostly positive - impact of sovereign wealth funds both within and outside the U.S. You'll also learn how to ride alongside these funds, understand their goals and strategies, and invest in the companies and industries they've identified as offering the greatest potential.

Very informative, and I do not pay attention to the stock tips as that is a no brainer. But if you want to have an easy to read book about the world business climate and how it affects politics and society? This book is for you!

What do Countries do with all their excess foreign currency reserves? If they are smart, they invest them into resources that will, in the long run, make their Countries strong and self-sufficient. This is the major premise of Mostrous, Gue and Dittman's new book "The Rise of the State Profitable Investing and Geopolitics in the 21st Century." They have written an excellent look into the new trends that are developing in East Asia and the Middle East with the rise of what are called SWF's or sovereign wealth funds. They include the names of SWF and companies working in these new economies for investment consideration. As the major economies start heading in a downward spiral, these SWF's are becoming the new power brokers. Anyone that has watched the business trends over the years should realize how much power China holds with all that US debt. As their economy has improved, they have been steadily working on investing in other countries resources. One of the areas in the book that I found quite politically interesting was the author's explanation of China's five foreign policy principles especially as they apply to its' foreign investment in Africa. These policies of peaceful coexistence consist of mutual respect for sovereignty, mutual nonaggression, mutual noninterference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit. The authors compared this to the treatment that African Nations have received over the years from Europe and the United States. This is an interesting look at a win-win strategy that has so far served China well. The book shows that China is not the only player in these developing economies. They included India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Russia and others. These burgeoning consumer nations have not been idle. While the West was looking for someone to blame for economic problems, they saw the "changes afoot and are quietly buying access to supplies of oil and natural gas." The authors show where all these trends are developing as well as the investment opportunities that exist in energy, water, healthcare and education. The book is easy to understand and follow without the need of a degree in economics. Well worth reading to better understand where the future of investing may be headed as well as what is happening to the world's economy. Great addition to the geopolitical, history and business shelf.

This book is really about the rise of the State and Energy -- I think. It's a good book. I don't know if there are a ton of advice for the run of the mill middle class America, but if you're an avid trader or you do international investment or are just interested in international business, this book is certainly a fresh take on the rise of the state by some businesssmen who have a lot of experience in the industry.

I wouldn't take it as gospel but certain, it presents some very concrete advice and data points that should be taken into consideration. Consider reating it just be aware, it's not "just" about Sovereign Wealth Funds.
