Revue de presse

In Russinovich's well-crafted third Jeff Aiken novel, the cyber security specialist must contend with insider trading, long cons, and multimillion-dollar thefts. --Publishers Weekly

Présentation de l'éditeur

Michael Lewis' Flash Boys revealed how high-frequency trading has created a ruthless breed of traders capable of winning whichever way the market turns. In Rogue Code, Mark Russinovich takes it one step further to show how their grip on high finance makes the stock market vulnerable to hackers who could bring about worldwide financial collapse.

Cyber security expert Jeff Aiken knows that no computer system is completely secure. When he's called to investigate a possible breach at the New York Stock Exchange, he discovers not only that their system has been infiltrated but that someone on the inside knows. Yet for some reason, they have allowed the hackers to steal millions of dollars from accounts without trying to stop the theft.

When Jeff uncovers the crime, the NYSE suddenly turns on him. Accused of grand larceny, he must find and expose the criminals behind the theft, not just to prove his innocence but to stop a multibillion-dollar heist that could upend the U.S. economy. Unwilling to heed Jeff's warnings, the NYSE plans to continue with a major IPO using a new, untested system, one that might be susceptible both to hackers and to ruthless high-frequency traders willing to take any risk to turn a profit.

Now Jeff Aiken must unearth the truth on his own, following the thread to the back alleys of Rio de Janeiro to take on one of the world's most ruthless cartels.

Praised for his combination of real-world technology and quick-paced action, with Rogue Code Mark Russinovich delivers an intense thriller about a cyber threat that seems all too possible---and the Wall Street traders who might allow it to happen.

Includes a foreword by Haim Bodek, author of The Problem of HFT: Collected Writings on High Frequency Trading & Stock Market Structure Reform.

Dommage !

HASH(0x8baf654c) étoiles sur 5 Finally... a technically realistic series of books ... couldn't put it down 22 mai 2014
Par J. Peter Bruzzese - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié
This is the third book in the series where we follow cyber security expert Jeff Aiken into the heart of the stock market with the potential for an economic meltdown. What I really love about these books is that Russinovich knows how to ensure the technology side is authentic and he does a fantastic job with it. For those of us in technical fields it's frustrating to read a book or watch a show where they attempt to bring in a technical piece and completely blow it with inaccuracies. I find myself yelling at the screen "That's not real!" and looking over at my wife "you know that's not real right!?" Rogue Code (and the other books in the Aiken series) are refreshingly accurate. It's great to read a book and get pulled into the story itself because the authenticity of the techie side is solid. At the same time, Russinovich writes about real-world security concerns and in doing so scares the heck out of me (in a good way) every time I read one of these.

Another great book in the series. Looking forward to the next one! - J. Peter Bruzzese

HASH(0x8baf65a0) étoiles sur 5 Very exciting 22 mai 2014

I'm a big fan of Mark Russinovich's first two books and was very satisfied with this one. It's a shame the books are marketed as techno-thrillers as his exploration of computers and Internet related issues that are central to his stories is just one part of a greater mix. These are also action thrillers. In fact, the second half of these books are simply non-stop Bourne Identity style thrill rides in exotic locations. The unique aspect of these amazing books isn't so much how effectively the author writes about computers and malware but the relationship between the two heroes, Jeff and Daryl. I can't think of a similar pairing in contemporary literature. In Rogue Code, Daryl really steps up, this time personally infiltrating the New York Stock Exchange to solve the mystery, and at great peril to her life when the bad guy figures out what she's up to. There is a scene in a back alley that should have every woman standing up and cheering. There's a lot more to all these books than hackers and they deserve a wider audience. With his expose of high frequency traders, this time Russinovich has struck a timely target. We should all be concerned about what the NYSE is really up to. If I could give Rogue Code ten stars, I would.

HASH(0x8b6f5210) étoiles sur 5 The best book in the series to date! 20 mai 2014
Par D. C. - Publié sur Amazon.com

I had the opportunity and the privilege to review Mark's best (fiction) book to date and I will be honest, it was a great read. Rogue Code is a great assembly of high tech, suspense and action with a set of well developed characters. Mark's writing style and storytelling has clearly matured and you are drawn into the story quickly. I think you will often have difficulty putting the (book) down as the intensity of the story increases.

My wife and I found ourselves increasingly intrigued after each chapter as the IPO milestone date loomed ahead and ended in a plot climax that could simply not be predicted.

An excellent read for many that love suspense, high tech and action thrillers. These continue to get better after each release. Highly recommended!

HASH(0x8bf08198) étoiles sur 5 An expert mix of technology and action thriller... 8 juillet 2014
Par Thomas Duff - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
I really like how how Mark Russinovich mixes computer technology and spy/techno/action thriller material together in his novels. His latest, Rogue Code, continues his string of great reads, especially for those of us who are computer geeks.

Russinovich takes on a hot topic currently in the news... high-frequency trading in the stock market. He uses it to build a story based on his main character, cyber-security expert Jeff Aiken. Aiken and his partner are called in to do a penetration test on the trading engine of the New York Stock Exchange. Starting from a normal level of access, they quickly tunnel their way into the crown jewel servers of the Exchange, where they find they aren't the only ones who shouldn't have made it that far. As they investigate the malware present on the servers, they discover that some group is using high-frequency trading techniques to skim off millions from regular trades. The people behind the malware aren't ready to give up their upcoming huge payday, so they set up Aiken to look like he's the person doing the skimming. Now Aiken has to stay out of jail long enough to prove what's going on and salvage his reputation.

Since Russinovich is a technical expert in real life at Microsoft, the tech angles on his stories are all solid. He also did a good job in understanding the issues surrounding high-frequency trading and how it could easily send the financial system into a tailspin with the wrong nudge at the wrong time. I like how they pair up the tech geek (Aiken) with an ex-CIA security operative (Frank Renkin) so you get the mix of spymaster who can (and has) killed people with the computer expert who isn't really sure he wants to be part of that world. It makes for interesting situations which work well as the story flows along.

I'll admit that those with a tech background will probably get the most enjoyment out of Rogue Code, as they'll be able to track the story better when the discussion turns to computer hacking. Even so, fans of techno-thrillers will like Russinovich's latest effort.
