Frank Frazetta Frank Frazetta has excelled in a wide variety of artistic formats, from fine art to paperback covers, comic books to record albums. His atmospheric worlds of sinewy superheroes, seductive sirens, and vivid monsters are wonderfully detailed, fully realized, and unmistakably his. INDISPENSABLE ! PATCHWORK.

This is a great book! It unfortunately was very short.
I was hoping for a robust thick book of concept art but was a but of a let down. Has a very interesting cushioned hard cover.
Still great work to learn from don't get me wrong. This would make a good starter book to begin to understand the awesomeness that is FF.

This is mostly a book for die-hard fans of the genre and artist, I think. It is small in dimension, but very much something you will study over and over. It makes you understand the genius of Frazetta and his creative process. While intimidating, it feels somehow more approachable to do what you do as an artist. I regret that they canceled publication of the other Frazetta book expected last year.

This is a fantastic value for the price. A great tribute to the process and body of work. There is a sense of "cleaning out the attic" to the recent push of Frazetta, admittedly, as if to continue the legacy after his retirement. This is, however, only what it needs to be, and doesn't seem like the selling of fingernail clippings [snort] that will follow the passing of great influences like him historically in writting, music and art. I at least hope we'll not get a collection of cocktail napkin doodles at some point.

This is a nicely designed little book, that gives you a neat little look at the mind of Frazetta through roughs and prelims predominately. The price is right, and if you're into Fantasy or Speculative Fiction and the imagery that surrounds it, this is a neat book to have in your library. My one comment would be that a few of the pieces represented seem to be more finished pen and ink pieces, that to me seemed a bit beyond the "rough" stage, so a bit out of place with the bulk of the prelims. But, its still Frazetta at the end of the day. Amazon had to replace my first copy, because the book binding is fragile, (its squishy...hows that for a technical book binding term...) and if they send it to you in a box with other items where it can move around, you might wind up with a blunt edge. But, they replaced it immediately with no questions, and sent the second one in a more secure mailer. I highly recommend this book.

I don't think I need to tell anybody what a great artist Frank Frazetta is. His different techniques, his compositions, simply fantastic. You can always tell when it's a Frazetta, but he will surprise you with every "new" piece of his art. I'd even say that without him the entire fantasy craze would probably still be in its infancy.
Frank was the one artist who was able to really pull me into his worlds at a time when fantasy books were mostly published in paperback. And he hasn't aged a bit. He introduced me to strange worlds, great warriors and beautiful women like nobody else before or since.
The book's 127 pages are filled with pencils, sketches, studies, both in color and in black and white. The introduction has 7 pages. From then on it's pure art. It's very interesting to study the concept art, and to discover what he changed for the final painting or illustration. Of course those are not included here (if you don't own them already, I strongly suggest you take a look at Legacy, Icon and Testament, the three marvellous hardcovers from Underwood Books).
The book is a huge source of inspiration for painters and modellers but also for writers and anybody interested in the classic arts.
As always with Spectrum Books the reproduction quality is first class.

One of my favorite artists. The father of Fantasy. I recommend for everyone who likes art.
