HASH(0x8df3275c) étoiles sur 5 critical flaw 26 mai 2013
Par l2 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Commentaire d‘un membre du Club des Testeurs ( De quoi s'agit-il? )
I've only used this case a couple of times, but already have my doubts about it. The box only has minimal instructions and there is no additional information on the company web site, so this review is based on what I could figure out myself. If someone has figured out how to work around the flaws at the end of this review, please let me know.

First, it took me a good 5 minutes to figure out how to open up the case. The instructions give you no clue. I did figure this out eventually - the right edge of the case has a hidden clasp that slides up to release.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone, which fits comfortably in the case if I remove all the internal padding except for one thin layer under the phone. The description says a Galaxy 4 will fit, but you'll have to try that for yourself. I doubt that anything larger will fit.

The touch screen cover is sensitive across the entire face of the phone. Other phone cases that I have tried usually fail here. This one works fine for me initially. I am kind of scared that the screen cover was carefully wrapped in a plastic protector, but how long is it going to remain usable (clear and sensitive) under normal use conditions?

The critical flaw for me is that if my phone's screen times out and turns off, there is no way to turn the phone on again without opening the case and taking the phone out to push the power button on the side of the phone. If I disable the screen timeout and leave the screen on continuously, then battery dies long before I have finished my bike ride. In my opinion, this flaw makes the case useless. I'd rather put the phone in a plastic bag in my pocket; then I can access the power button easily.

The case does have a port at the bottom so I can attach an external battery pack if I do want to keep the screen on continuously, but I'm not going to do that for most bike rides (maybe only for special events).

Again, there is no useful documentation included on how to use this case. Maybe there is something that I could not figure out. Is anyone actually using this case on their bike???

Another issue is that the quick-release connector that attaches the case to your bike seems flimsy. I really don't know if I will trust it to hold my phone securely during a high-speed descent or on a rocky mountain bike trail. Also, the package only comes with one bike mount. if you have 2 bikes, you are out of luck. Extra bike mounts do not seem to be available separately.

HASH(0x8e090444) étoiles sur 5 Garbage Product: AVOID 15 juin 2013

This Runtastic bike case is more like Craptastic. It has numerous design flaws that make it not only a poor performer, but possibly destructive to your phone. I'll start with good qualities of the case:

1) The screen is responsive through the clear plastic protector.

That concludes the good. Now onto the bad:

1) The power on button cannot be accessed without opening the case. That means that mid bike ride you must detach the case, open the case, and fiddle with your phone to power it back on. That really defeats the point of the thing.

2) Shoddy manufacturing. The plastic pieces are poorly machined and have rough edges. The sliding plastic lock can jostle open over time--especially if you ride off road. This thing looks and feels like something you'd find at a dollar store. It's that bad.

3) The clip that attaches the case to the mount relies on tension to stay attached. It has no spring or other such mechanism to keep it in place. My Galaxy III doesn't have sufficient thickness to engage the lock. I had to use a chuck of the supplied foam pads to jimmy-rig a bump high enough to push out the slide lock. Even after doing this I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRUST the case to stay connected over say, a speed bump.

4) The attachment to the bike handlebars has zero articulation. That means that if your handlebars have any slope, the phone will angle to one side or the other, making it hard to see. These days, most bikes don't have perfectly straight handlebars. They should have used a attachment with either an articulating "ball" head, OR made the mount connect to the steering column of the bike. As is, attached to my Hard Rock mountain bike, the screen sits at about a 15 degree angle. Readable, but far from optimal.

Overall: This is a really shoddy piece of workmanship with some many design flaws it's head scratching. I would but pretty much anything before I touched this. I don't believe it wills stay attached to the bike through anything but very light riding, nor do I believe it would protect the phone once it flew off and smashed into the concrete. Without a way to power on the phone screen, its basically useless out of the package. Sure glad I got this from Vine to review for free--it's not worth spending money on. In a word: AVOID.

HASH(0x8e090450) étoiles sur 5 Great idea, HORRIBLE execution 14 juin 2013

I really wanted to love this case. The idea of being able to mount my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) safely on my bike and in a convenient location for use while riding was really appealing. I ordered this item to go with the Runtastic Speed and Cadence Bike Sensor with Bluetooth Smart Technology and was really looking forward to using these products in tandem on my rides. Unfortunately this item fell short in multiple areas:

The sliding "lock" on the side of the case is a joke. It does not click into place and is not secure. Road vibrations actually cause the slider to start moving upward into the unlocked position. Had I not kept sliding it back down into place I believe my phone could have fallen out. I found myself worrying way too much about the safety of my phone in this thing. After spending the majority of my ride with my hand on this case making sure my phone didn't fall out I remedied this issue by putting a rubber band around the top of the case above the slider to prevent it from moving. This is a "fix" I'd expect to have to implement on a cheap product, not on something at this price point.

Also, I cannot access the power button on my phone while it's in this case, rendering it unusable while riding. The only solution to this issue is to set my screen to always be on which drains my battery so quickly my phone would die before my ride was over. The power button on my phone is on the right-hand side (where the sliding lock is located) so I couldn't even drill a hole into the case to gain access to it. When already turned on my phone is responsive enough through the protective screen of the case but the lower touch buttons on my phone are inaccessible through this case as well (they can be seen through the case, they just don't respond to touch through it).

The case is also not secure in the mount. It "locks" into place by sliding it down onto the mount and a small plastic tab "clicks" into place. There is no actual spring to this piece, it merely relies on the springiness of the plastic material it is made out of and can come off the mount with the slightest touch. I was able to remedy this issue by cutting a small piece of the extra enclosed foam and attaching it to the back of the "button" to make it more difficult for the button to be pressed into the unlock position. Again, more alterations to what I now am convinced is a ridiculously overpriced case that is not at all worthy of this price point.

I also found the rubber insert in the bottom of my case doesn't like to stay in. Road vibrations cause it to wiggle its way out about once an hour and it has to be pressed back in.

In all fairness there are a few positives about this case (it fits the size/shape of my S3 well, the mount mounted easily to the handlebar stem of my Trek bike, and it comes with plenty of foam pieces for creating a custom fit to your phone) but I have a hard time speaking positively about this product with all of the glaring negatives listed above.

Overall I found that the negatives of this product far outweigh the positives. I can't recommend this product in the slightest. Huge disappointment.

I thought it sounded wonderful in the description. I'm afraid that's as long as wonderful lasted.

I just don't like it. I don't want to worry about the phone coming flying off of the bicycle only to land under a car's tires. This failed on security--I'm just not convinced it's that well attached to the handlebars that it isn't going to do exactly that. My husband went ballistic over the zip tie thing. It fails to give me a sense of security anywhere, and it also failed to be particularly usable. The power button and side controls are inaccessible. It's not waterproof. It comes with one mount and additional mounts are apparently not available either, so those who ride multiple bikes would be out of luck anyhow.

I have better security by putting the phone in a ziplock bag and dropping it into a basket or putting it into a zip closed handlebar bag. I had the illusions that this Runtastic Bike Case would leave me with a functional phone where I could see the screen in case of an important call/msg. Maybe my husband is right--do one or the other. Trying to pay attention to a phone screen while riding bicycle is almost as foolish as texting while driving. It doesn't leave the GPS function on the phone usable nor will it fit our GPS unit so there isn't that excuse to use it.

Pass on this one. Buy a box of quart sized zip close bags and a bicycle basket, and you'll have better results with greater weather protection too. You might even be able to see the phone's screen during a ride and at least you'll have a place to stash your beach blanket and picnic lunch too.

HASH(0x8e090540) étoiles sur 5 Too tight for Galaxy S4 12 juillet 2013
Par ut158 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Commentaire d‘un membre du Club des Testeurs ( De quoi s'agit-il? )
I got this for my Galaxy S4. Technically, you CAN fit the S4 into this case, but it is such a tight fit that getting it in and out of this case is a real hassle. Also, the pads in the corner are stuck on with a 2 sided tape and as you jam the device in, it peels the pad down enough to transfer some sticky residue onto the phone itself (note that this is on the PHONE--there's no way it will fit in if your phone is in even a very slim case). And, no--it would not be practical to leave it in this case all the time--it's HUGE for something like your pocket.

The bottom of the case appears to rely on a thin felt pad for water "proofing" at the point that the case attaches to the mount. I suppose it would take quite a splash to work water up there, but I think they could have done better.

The case comes with an app that measures your performance and stuff. I don't really care about the app and haven't tried it, but if you want something like that, there's a little extra value for you.

The screen is touch sensitive and did very well in my few tests that I tried.

I suspect this would be a fine case if you have an Android phone that is smaller than an S4, but for me, it would be impractical to use. ...and at this price, you could get a low-end GPS watch, if you are interested in tracking your distance, etc.
