Rush in Rio

Oui il faudra s'y faire car jusqu’à lors, un projet live était formaté pour le vieux 33T et plus récemment pour le CD, mais il faut bien se rendre à l’évidence que dès lors, les groupes pensent images et DVD. Car les lacunes (s’il jamais elles existent) sur la version Cd, disparaissent à jamais sur celle en DVD. D’abord le packaging est magnifique, tant qu’a faire, et l’objet contient 2 DVD, le 1er étant le show en intégralité, et le second, un documentaire non sous-titré et des bonus dont 2 cachés dont il faut trouver « la clef ». Un des 2 est tout simplement une perle, le groupe filmé en 1975 interprétant « Anthem ». Pour découvrir la clef, je vous donne le truc, rendez-vous sur le site du groupe, sur le lien Rush in Rio, encore un lien nommé « Hidden… », et là double-cliquez sur la photo représentant le DVD, une fenêtre s’ouvrira pour vous donner l’astuce. Pour en revenir au concert, on a affaire là à quelque chose de grandiose, images magnifiques, jeux scéniques à gros moyens et inter-activité entre écran géant en fond de scène et scène elle-même. Les musiciens sont au mieux de leur forme et le solo de batterie de Neil Peart est vraiment superbe et original, dans ses jeux aussi bien scénique que purement technique, un régal ! L’interprétation est du calibre de « a show of hands », tout était écrit et réinterprété à la note près. Enfin un son d’enfer et un public présent et déchaîné font de ce DVD une pièce maîtresse de tout amateur de Rock.

Hard rock progressif très efficace pour les amateurs du genre..Pas vraiment branché sur ce style de musique, mais il faut reconnaître que se sont d'excellents musiciens ...J'ai offert ce dvd à un fan et j'ai donc pu découvrir avec lui , durant 3h ce groupe canadien assez impressionnant ..

En dépit de ses 30 ans de carrière dans le hard rock progressif, il est toujours curieux de constater la confidentialité de Rush auprès du public Français. Ce DVD permettra-t'il de faire la différence? Peu importe après tout. Les fans s'y retrouveront et salueront à nouveau la dextérité de ces 3 musiciens, déployée sur 3 heures de concert! Le répertoire du groupe, généreusement revisité, offre au public brésilien venu en force un véritable voyage dans le temps (De "Earthshine" à "By-Tor the snow-dog"). Les prestations live du groupe sont rares, et elles donnent lieu ici à un best-of interprété avec enthousiasme et une maîtrise tout bonnement époustouflante. Pas un seul temps mort, pas une fausse note. Et le documentaire de tournée, visionnable sur le 2ème DVD nous informant sur les conditions techniques et climatiques déplorables, ne fait que rendre ce concert encore plus puissant!
PS: pour le mixage en 5.1, attention à la voie centrale, que j'ai trouvée un peu trop en retrait et dont vous aurez à augmenter le niveau! à l'inverse, le niveau du caisson de grave devra être réduit. D'où ma note de 4 étoiles ;-)

Commander pour mon oncle qui cherchait après depuis un moment, arrivé rapidement, il en est content.

Ayant acheté à sa sortie le triple live, dont le contenu était sans faille, le choix des titres idéals, agrémenté d'une prestation musicale hors norme; j'ai décidé d'acquérir le DVD. Mal m'en pris. Images floues du Brésil en début de DVD, images dont la netteté est douteuse pour le show, changement de plan toutes les quatre secondes, que ça en devient fatiguant au bout de 20 minutes, plans filmés des écrans latéraux destinés au public, et ça on s'en fout... Je veux bien que ce soit rythmé, mais même pour des groupes similaires, ça ne va pas aussi vite. Il faut attendre les rares solos pour voir la caméra se calmer et rester fixe. J'ai de nombreux DVD Live, et celui ci est le pire. Et pourtant, les moyens étaient présents. Même si ce DVD a pu être tourné lors d'un concert torrentiel (faut vérifier), cela n'excuse pas tout. Sinon, concert filmé en multi angles, avec bonus etc... Je vais retourner à mes CD, et visionner le concert R30 que je viens d'acquérir en même temps. Donc, qualité du show oui ! Qualité de l'image non !

Rush en live à la maison

Comme nous autres français, nous n'avons jamais pu goûter un concert de Rush sur notre sol, ce DVD pallie en partie à ce manque. Ce qu'il y a de bien avec cette vogue du DVD, c'est que le groupe fait une tournée pour promouvoir son dernier album (Vapor Trails), ensuite il sort un DVD de cette tournée, et pour promouvoir ce DVD, il va faire une nouvelle tournée qui passera cette fois-ci par l'Europe, il nous l'a promis. Espérons que la France fera partie du parcours.

salut tout le monde je suis tres decu par le son de ce dvd quel brouaa dommage je recommande pour les amateurs du groupe rush l album r30 live enregistre a frankfort en allemagne qui est un exemple en sono et en mise en scenes quel plaisir sur un home cinema 5.1 salutations aux fans de rush

'Rush in Rio', received this double DVD yesterday, played the 1st one tonight, must be at least 3 hours of top music.
No idea how I've not heard of them before, but thoroughly enjoyed disc 1.
I can't fault it, great musician's, and the drummer is even better!
Looking forward to another long night, for disc 2.

Audio quality - what's the problem?

A fan for over 20 years, I hesitated in buying this DVD because of the reviews from the likes of proudmumofagayson et al complaining about the audio quality. Fortunately, I bought the DVD and I'm chuffed to bits with it.
You don't buy a live concert DVD for the audio quality (if you want that, listen to the CD); you buy it for the overall performance. This DVD did not fail to impress on that front and I cannot for the life of me understand what all the moans are about? The audio quality to me was superb.
If you are in doubt, like I was, buy the Rush in Rio DVD - you can always send it back if you are not happy.

They're Back!

I think it's fair to say that even as a Rush fan since 1987(not that long compaired to some) it has been easy to forget about the mighty Rush and move on to other bands and styles of music, I go back every now and then and get out some classic stuff such as 2112 and Hemispheres etc,etc,etc. But maybe Rush had lost there way some time in the 90's, fair enough if one reads about Peart's tragedies; but somehow through all this they have bounced back and played to the biggest crowd of there carrier and are playing better than ever.
We've all got countless versions of tracks like Tom Sawyer and closer to the heart but this DVD sounds more relaxed and even sounds more "mature". Check out the middle 8 in Tom Sawyer; Peart is evidence that one is never to old to go back to basics and re-evaluate technique. Freddy Gruber has made such a difference to an already excellent player.
They may never win new fans with the new material or the old but fans that have followed them over the years will appreciate this somehow "refreshing" new sound.
Astounding show, Great documentory, All round excellent DVD for the collection of any Rush fan.

A long time Rush fan here, although I have to say I got into them through All The World's Stage, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures back in the late 70's and then bought nothing until the last year when I picked up pretty much everything they did in the 70s plus the Chronicles compilation. I've never seen them live unfortunately.
I just got this dvd, played it on my laptop based system and listened through headphones...
... now being a bit of a guitarist myself and therefore tending to have a sharp and highly critical ear for all things musical, I really feared I would be disappointed after what I'd read from the disenters, and that the plaudits were probably rabid Rush die hard fans who would climax merely at the sight of the dvd box. Fortunately that wasn't the case, in fact I have thus far been most impressed. Don't let the detractors put you off from this jewel unless you are the type of person that can accept nothing less than state-of-the-art perfection (which is what I suspect has been happening here with the love/hate review scoring).
The thing about a live performance is that it's, well, live! Don't expect a year 2000+ studio CD sound, that's not how it was at the concert. I want to hear and see them live warts and all, not get a soulless studio disc. Nevertheless, the live sound is very good IMO and the whole packing looks, feels and sounds very well put together, a lot of hard work has obviously gone into this from the packaging through to the dvd itself.
Do expect to hear crowd noise in places, it's not overpowering, it's atmospheric, it's part of the show and the experience. It makes the dvd in many ways rather than detracting as so may have said.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion (including me) and in all honesty I'd rate the sound and vision each at about 4 out of 5 and the performance, atmosphere and feelgood factor at about a 6 out of 5 if I could, and so I rate the whole thing as a 5 (which also helps to reddress the balance given some have slammed this dvd with a 1 (which I feel is overly critical and unbalanced, all things being considered).
I've now concluded that the overwhelming majority of people who have scored this dvd as a 4 or 5 probably are rabid Rush die hard fans who have climaxed merely at the sight of the dvd box - but that they also have got the scoring about right.
Anyhow, still got to try it on the 5.1 home cinema. Will report back if my overall opinion changes.

Very enjoyable - but a technical question

I don't wish to add anything much to the generally positive comments and gripes - partially justified - over some elements of sound quality. Rush remain one of the greatest ever bands, so enough said on that score. However, I have been watching this on an Apple powerbook and cannot for the life of me access the Easter eggs. I don't have a remote control for the said machine so how exactly do you do it? Solutions much appreciated.
