5.0 étoiles sur 5 Friendship, trust, and a deep abiding love, this story has it all. 31 mai 2016

Wow! I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this story. This is one of the most unusual romances I've ever read. It starts off as a story in their childhood years as best friends. Then it jumps forward 15 years later when they find each other again. Both are suffering from demons from their past, but together they begin the healing process. That is until something major takes place between them, that makes them both start to question their future.

This is such a beautiful, beautiful romance story; one with very believable characters dealing with real-life situations. I don't want to go into too much detail about the story. But..... I will say that what I loved about it the most about this story, was that there was no instant fixes. No instant love connection, either. Friendship, sure. Total trust between the two, you betcha'...but there was no sudden claims about instantly falling in love, even after sharing one night of heated passion together.

They did what they thought was right at the time for them, and decided not to jump into marriage just because that's what others would have expected.

This book was absolutely the sweetest love story I have read recently, and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

This book has been waiting in my TBR list for years...this weekend I finally started it and could not put it down. What a wonderful story!
I love being able to relate with the characters and the situations in a story; the summer friendship that become a vital part of someone’s life. Growing up together summer after summer, counting on someone that knows you better than yourself.
The story is very well written, has many touching moments ( bittersweet too, as life itself ); romance ( there are sex scenes, though not too explicit ) and a very sweet ending.

Made me think of the people in my life, those who are "safe harbors" to me. This book is definitely going to "Favorites" collection in my kindle. Loved it!

I downloaded this book when it was a promotional freebie for my Kindle. I know, I know, the buzz is that free titles, for the most part, suck. That has not been my experience--especially not with this book, which has been in the back of my mind since I finished it yesterday.

This is one of the most unusual romances I've ever read. Ms. Arnold hooked me instantly, and I found myself immersed in the story of two children from different backgrounds spending summers together--growing up together--on Block Island. When love between them emerges, heartbreak soon follows...and follows.

I've come late to this party and so find it unnecessary to list plot elements in my review. You can read all about them in others posted here. I will say this: Ms. Arnold wrote a story here incorporating strong, personal psychological elements, which resonated deeply with me. The power of forgiveness, the ability to forget, the willingness to trust, and the need to embrace life as it is, not as it might have been, are all captured to perfection in this book. I look forward to reading it again, and to reading more of Judith Arnold's titles. She is an excellent writer.

Kip and Shelley have know each other as friends for most of their lives. Their story starts as, as teenagers, they begin to grow of childhood and start dealing with adult feelings. Unfortunately, this same summer, Shelley is thrown into a very adult world of divorce, deception and betrayal.

The story then picks up fifteen-years later and we discover that Kip also has a past to overcome. The friendship is the corner stone Kip uses to build back his life. And still, something is missing.

This is a beautiful romance, with believable characters in real-life situation. It is sweet without being cloying. I especially liked that the problems are not resolved overnight and that the author allowed the passage of time to heal some wounds.

I did not find the formating distracting but noted a few spelling and grammar mistakes. I agree with the other reviewers that Kindle editing should be as good as a paper book. Still, don't let format keep you from enjoying this book.

The story was more interesting when they were children than it becomes when they rejoin as adults. It was a nice romance, but turned irritating when as adults the characters were more immature in their relationship than they had been as children. To me it dragged to its conclusion. I still enjoyed the book, but I have trouble understanding how so many 5-star ratings are given for mediocre stories.
