Salads To Go
7 Delicious Salad Recipes Made For On The Go Convenience

If you are like me, you probably have a busy lifestyle to keep up with which makes eating healthy pretty difficult.   We all know that a good hearty salad is good for you.  However, due to everyones busy demanding schedules, finding the time to prepare a good salad isn't always possible.

Yes, you can get salad in many fast food restaurants; unfortunately, most fast food salads are either not fresh, contains processed fillers, or their dressing contains more calories than their burgers.

What most people don't know is that many fast food restaurants actually spray their salads with a substance made of propylene glycol to make their lettuce and other vegetables appear fresh, when they could actually be up to 3 days old!  So all these reasons really defeat the purpose of trying to eat healthy.

Lucky for you, I am about to reveal an ingenious way to prepare a tasty, mouth watering and healthy salad in a mason jar that can last for up to 7 days - without the unwanted chemical spray.

First, I'm a semi-vegetarian (occassionally eat seafood and poultry), who also prefers mostly raw foods. I have several serious autoimmune disorders, and have learned that avoiding regular consumption of meat, and keeping to a mostly raw food diet, helps control them better than anything else I've tried over the past 40 years. So, I eat a LOT of salads! With the great information provided in this (sadly, too short, in my opinion) book, I can prepare salads for 2-3 days at a time in advance. With limited energy, I love that! I think it will be great for very busy people, too. And I really enjoyed the different ideas for salad combos. I hope the author will come up with more ideas, and write a 2nd (and maybe even a 3rd) volume. This was a "freebie" the day I got it, but having read it, I would gladly buy follow-up volumes at a reasonable price ($.99 would be my limit because I have an extremely limited income.)

Healthy, practical, environmentally friendly (the mason jars can be cleaned in the dishwasher) ... what's not to like?

I really appreciated the idea of bypassing restaurants, which obviously have to treat their salads somehow to hinder that the salad wilts or goes bad. I also liked the author's layering concept, as well as the photos/graphics how the individual layers are prepared.

However, I am having issues with the fact that according to the author meat (e.g. pepperoni, cooked ham, chicken etc should be combined with the salad. What about if people have a one hour commute (which is not extraordinary in certain parts of the country) and may work for 5 hrs before they have the opportunity to eat their lunch? That would mean that the meat and the salad are together in the jar for at least 5 hrs? Is that ok? I don't know but I would liked to hear an answer to that question.

That being said, I would be fine with transporting them in two different glass jars.

The book could also be a bit longer, but it is a very interesting, healthy, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solution.

This is a really innovative and nicely produced book. Each recipe has a full color photo of all the separate ingredients and the finished salad. Another option is to just carry your dressing separately, since dressing does wilt greens, which is why she puts the dressing at the bottom along with the denser ingredients, so those ingredients (meat, cheese, firm veggies, etc) will get marinated until time to eat. This is a way to carry a full salad to work (or wherever) and have it ready to go at lunchtime. However, one could make a salad and carry the dressing separately in case the jar tipped over en route or something. In addition to some yummy recipes, this offers ideas so one can get creative with whatever you have on hand and create your own delicious salads. I personally would not use all the ingredients in many of these salads (soy sauce, for example; don't do soy or wheat, which is in most soy sauce) but in general, these are highly nutritious and healthful salads, made with ingredients like extra virgin olive oil (my favorite dressing ingredient) and other natural ingredients. Great idea and a zillion times better than most restaurant and salad bar salads, especially if you choose organic. Plus no horrid plastic leaching into your food adding to your toxic burden.

Excellent photographs and easy to read. I learned something worthwhile that I'll put into action this week.

I almost didn't download this free book, because the only salads in a jar, or cup, that I'd previously eaten were bought at a fast food franchise. Yuck! After reading Salads to go, I understand why it was so unappetizing.

The suggested varieties and instructions in this book convince me that, at last, I can eat nutritious, tasty, salads that's will help me get rid of my extra loveable excess.

I do believe the writer could expand the discussion to include more salads, various dressings, and maybe even some compatible dishes that are in keeping with the theme.

I also enjoyed the link to a video by a nutritionist, which I think is terrific. That's only accessed when readers sign up for an email though.

Bottom line? This 20-page booklet is a good, easy read, that is worth the cost of admission.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 though this book is good for inspiration 6 mai 2016

I have been familiar with the salad in a jar technique for quite some time, though this book is good for inspiration. What really made me give this 5 stars are the salad dressings. I love the dressing recipes and that it doesn't rely on the same old tired store bought options. While I don't make these recipes all the time, it is nice to reference back & mix things up now & then. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I tend to fall into kind of a food rut, making the same things over & over again. This adds a nice variety & keeps my husband from thinking "salad, again. ugh"
