HASH(0x9819e6f0) étoiles sur 5 An album of their's I hadn't litened to before now! 23 avril 2010

Okay I'll admit it, I'm biased when it comes to the 80's, I like the music from this era. In fact after listening to what stands for today's "popular music" its hard for me not to feel nostalgic about that musical time period going on 30 years now. I say all this because Charlie's self titled album (CD) was originally released in 1983. Unfortunately it didn't generate much in the way of sales and is viewed as a flop, commercially speaking even back then.
But this CD is a great listen to from start to finish. Each song is better then the last. In fact there are a couple of songs on the CD that easily could have gone on to be actual mega hits were it not for the complete lack of album promotion. Marketing or in this case, the lack thereof, doomed the group's self titled effort to obscurity. Only the groups immediate fans went out and bought the release. And herein lies the shame of it all because this release "COULD" have been a monster seller for the band had it been marketed properly. One song, the lead off track, "It's Inevitable" was made into a video for MTV and it did get a fair amount of air time. But what the band needed was radio airplay and it didn't receive any. All the songs on here are fun to listen to. My personal faves include "Spend my life with you & Never to late" but quite honestly every song on here is a winner. The songs themselves feel just like a well tailored Armani suit, they feel that good. Song lyric's are clear and easy on the ears as well as some good guitar riffs as well. But because its the 80's there are a number of requisite synthesizer plays through out. You can't really blame the band for this after all it was the 80's were talking about here and the synthesizer was a popular instrument back then. I just thought you'd appreciate the "heads up" regarding this that's all.
So although the sound is dated (80's) the music contained on this CD is much better then many of the more popular, better marketed releases of this time period. If you find yourself feeling a bit nostalgic for the good old days of the 1980's and these days who doesn't, you might want to give this CD a spin. If you like what you hear you'll be pleased to know that Charlie, the band has a whole lot more for you to listen to. Please allow me to introduce you to your new favorite band that up to now you never heard of. Enjoy!

First of all, THIS IS A NEW RELEASE!!! It wasn't released in the '80's, like many of the comments suggest!!!! How could it have been with a song called "Youtube Girl"??!!?? This CD contains NEW SONGS!!!In fact, according to the extensive liner notes, this is the last Charlie recording. :-( Let me just say that it's a fantastic conclusion to an already great musical catalog. The production is top notch and mirrors 2009's "Kitchens of Distinction". A definite must have for Charlie fans. Terry Thomas actually convinced a few original members to perform on this CD. Thank you Charlie, for the great music spanning over the last 40 years.

HASH(0x9819ed20) étoiles sur 5 "Elysium", is the name of their new album. Terry Thomas and Charlie keep getting better with age. 3 avril 2016

If ever a band that has been screwed by the record companies, it's Charlie! This is their 10th and maybe there last one, and that's too freaking bad, according to Terry Thomas the band's leader this is it. Charlie released "Kitchens of Distinction", in 2009 the lyrics were biting and humorous as is on this release as well. This album is called "Elysium", and it gives us some great tracks in "Youtube Girl", "Sad", "Super Rich", and "I Want A Maserati", but the whole damn album is first rate rock and roll with slices of jazz flavoring. Terry Thomas ranks up there as one fine musician and top record producers, with little fanfare. If you've liked Charlie in the past get these last two releases, you won't be sorry.

Tracks on this CD: "Youtube Girl", "The Ballad of Kerry Katona", "Virus", "Make It Real", "Elysium", "I Want A Maserati", "Thinking About You", "Call Me Dave", "Clutching At Straws", "Hey Dude", "Abandon Ship", "The Super Rich", "Sad", and "Talking Heads".

Nobody knows about this release, unless your a fan of the band, because the record companies push sugar coated pop-tarts down our throat!!

This final Charlie album SCREAMS rock n roll; like 70s guitar rock n roll! If you love their earlier music, and have played it over and over to death like me, this is very cool!. It's classic Charlie vocals and harmonies mixed with more complex, hard-edged guitar riffs, and solos, and it rocks. They sound just as you might expect them to sound after evolving through the decades up to today. If you are a Charlie fan and collector, you have to have this one in your library.
