Captured terrorists reveal that yet another attack on the Scrapyard is imminent only this time the Sheik of Barsoom intends to crush the opposition with an overwhelming force of ships and men...
To make matters worse, the hyperlink transfer zone between the Santana Quadrant and Sol-Terra is somehow being blocked - reinforcements will not be coming!
Meanwhile, the Sheik, who has been steadily gaining power, is consolidating all of his forces at the Santana Nexus Station in preparation for something really big...
Can Carlisle, Harris, Hawkins and Kresge along with a motley assortment of civilians, including a newly recruited handful of miners and colonists, somehow take on the juggernaut that the Sheik's forces have become and regain control of the Santana Quadrant?
Could the Santana Nexus Station be the key?

HASH(0x98700cd8) étoiles sur 5 Very good story, some style problems 7 juillet 2014

The good part first. This is the third book in a series of novels that begins with The Scrapyard Incident, and continues in the Veritian Derelict. I have enjoyed this series, and bought this book before it had been reviewed. The characters are well thought out and distinct. The action is good. The idea of a floating junkyard of old spaceships in a lagrange point is terrific. It also gives the protagonists much to work with in terms of ingenious methods of defending themselves.
This is the third novel in the series. I want to make it clear I have enjoyed these books. The author tells a good story, and I bought this as soon as it came out without waiting for any reviews. There is one little quibble I have with the writing. Way too many exclamation points. This not only occurs in the conversations the characters have, but in the descriptions of the action. If the action is exciting (which it is, the story is really good as I said before) you don't need to use exclamation points. We get it. :)
The author also has a tendancy to tell you what just happened. There is combat and they capture a ship. The chapter ends with "and they captured the ship!".
When I am reading a book I am really into, I am in the story in my head. These little things tend to take me out of that "zone". The editing is generally good. There were a few mistakes, but not enough to cause problems.
I will continue to buy this author's books. As I said, he tells a good story. If he keeps writing, I expect that he will keep refining his craft and become even better.
Good book, and definitely go back and read the first two if you plan to read this book and haven't done so.

HASH(0x98700f24) étoiles sur 5 My surprise choices 4 août 2014

I started this novel series just by accident. I was surfing the book choices and have been happily following the unique Junkyard Dogs for three novel's ever since. The author has gone from strength to strength, building the characters and storyline through each of the novels. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading these books and would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a great read. It's never dull and keeps it interest. Do start at the beginning with the first book. Give it a try!
HASH(0x98700ee8) étoiles sur 5 As my daddy used to say - Good story, but the delivery needs some work 12 août 2014

I approached this new installment of the Junkyard with a bit of hesitance. It had been a while and a lot of books since I read the last installment, so I wasn't really sure why until I got into this newest book. Then it hit me -- there was something about the style that didn't flow for me. Going back to the prior two books, I skimmed back over them to make sure that I wasn't mis-remembering. And there it was - there were certain sections where it felt like I was reading a draft of the outline for the book that had been partially filled with details, but that needed another pass to fully complete the transformation from outline into story. This third book actually had less of that than others, but it was still there -- those places where the author was telling about the story instead of telling the story.

And it actually is quite a good story at that -- picking up after the events in the Veritian Derelict and continuing the story of the Junkyard Dogs and their fight to defend their corner of the universe. They continue to utilize the resources of the scrapyard to defend themselves against the aggression of the Shiek of Barsoom and help those hurt by the sneak attack against the sector. With the addition of some new resources, and a few convenient discoveries, they somehow manage to muster a credible force together to the point where they can think about changing the balance of power.

Overall, I have to say that I've enjoyed the series - but not nearly as much as I could have. Its a good story as it is -- but with the right delivery, it could have been great.

A good continuation of the story of the Junkyard Dogs. I will certainly look forward to the next book. Having said that, I did not care for the epilogue. No spoilers: The set up was in the book for a possible continuing story line and the epilogue was totally unnecessary. For that matter, I thought the 'relationship' as identified in the epilogue was quite a stretch and just totally inappropriate.
HASH(0x98705294) étoiles sur 5 I particularly liked the resurrection of 'juked' spaceship into the fight 8 juillet 2014

As the third book in the series, I awaited this book with high anticipation. The science is quite believable and the characters are fairly well rounded. I particularly liked the resurrection of 'juked' spaceship into the fight. The editing, however, is a bit lacking, thus the four stars.
