Présentation de l'éditeur

It's Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately he's just too much of a scaredy-cat. He's afraid of a little spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that he tips over his jack-o'-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a small, black, furry creature with a big pumpkin head. Whooooo can it be?

Quatrième de couverture

From bestselling author Rob Scotton

It's Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately, his costume is more silly than frightening, and when Splat gets spooked by a jack-o'-lantern, he looks like the scaredy-est cat in the whole school. But then a mysterious creature appears in Mrs. Wimpydimple's classroom, and Splat surprises everyone—especially himself—with his fur-raising abilities!

HASH(0x927ea1d4) étoiles sur 5 Another great splat adventure. 10 septembre 2010

I got this book for my niece who loved all the previous Russell and Splat books, and this one is no exception. The writing combined with the fantastic artwork, as always, allows you to play around with the story telling and make subsequent readings engaging and fun. The characters that Splat engages with in his adventures are consistent, rich, and diverse, holding your attention and taking you back to previous Splat adventures.

In this one, the slightly clumsy Splat has the worry of Halloween and the pressure of coming up with a scary costume for school.... what could possibly go wrong?! Well, things turn out OK, if not quite how our little furry hero planned. For me this is another excellent book in the Splat collection.... can't wait for the next one!

HASH(0x927ea24c) étoiles sur 5 Aww Splat... just not very funny. 5 septembre 2010

I love Splat! This one seemed a sure fire winner for Halloween story programs, so I was very disappointed when I received the book and discovered that the story was not nearly as humorous as Splat's earlier adventures. It seems to drag on and on and in the end came to kind of a strange resolution. I agree with another reviewer who said that Splat just seemed whiny. The story just has no spark to sustain it with a group.

What is brilliant about this book are the illustrations. Once again Rob Scotton delivers in creating characters that are fun, bold and expressive. He has a truly unique style that is a delightful cross between warm and fuzzy and wacky. Still a fan, but can't really recommend this one.

Once again, it's great to see the wonderfully talented Rob Scotton delivering what is now becoming a delightful series of books with his clumsy yet endearing Splat the Cat. Suffice to say, Splat gets himself into yet another pickle at school (who hasn't?)before the resolution we are all hoping for finally happens. I love the familiarity of the characters, Mrs. Wimpydimple becoming a standout! The richness of the illustrations amplify this delightful Hallowe'en tale and I do think young children will understand the frustration Splat feels in his desperation to win. Another great book for the Splat collection.

In his silly charming way, SPLAT the SCAREDY-CAT who first earned our love with his Valentine story, is determined to win the title of scariest cat in Mrs. Wimpydimple's class but after several failed attempts seem to turn hopeless until a twist of spooky luck bring in the surprise fate. Characteristically textured drawings that seem to jump off the pages with funny plot that little kids will enjoy, this book if filled with all things Halloween: spiders, Jack-o-lanterns, mummy & skeleton costumes, ghost story, and a cheerful ending.

Love, Splat (Splat the Cat)

I love Splat the Cat and Love, Splat. This one was more like Merry Christmas, Splat -- flat. With each turn of the page I hoped it would get charming. I almost thought I'd arrived when Splat mounts a closet broom and says he's going to be a scary witch's cat, then laments, "Now what am I going to wear?" upon the broom's snapping in two. But this was, unfortunately, as clever as it got.

I am used to much more from the author. How could the juxtaposition of two such very great things -- Rob Scotton and Halloween -- go wrong? Therein may lie my problem: my expectations were too high.

Splat wants to win the prize for the scariest costume. It was harder to be charmed with such a petty concern than it was to relate to Splat's nervousness with the first day of school or that Kitten wouldn't like his valentine. At least in Merry Christmas, Splat, with his self-absorption over getting a big present, there are charming accounts of how he screws up trying to be good enough for said big present. With this fourth installment, his desire to win just comes across as whiny -- although perhaps this helps the young audience relate.

The book seems to coast on the successes of the previous installments. Splat's voice again "wobbles with worry." Scotton rests on the laurels of his cute illustrations. He can't quite get away from teals, but his purples and oranges are well incorporated, though understated.

My 3 1/2-year-old will sit through it but doesn't ask to read it, which is unusual for him and a new book. Granted, he has a dinosaur obsession and Splat is a mere mammal -- but he also has a Halloween obsession. But he would say he likes the book, and I have to say there are much worse Halloween books out there.
