5.0 étoiles sur 5 What is Greatness? 27 octobre 2015
Par John Donahue - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle Achat vérifié
Greatness is a term that means something different to everyone. It’s often hard to define, but when we see it we know it. Not every successful person is great, but nearly every great person is successful. Their success however, is defined by them, not us. Perhaps that’s one of their secrets.
I recently had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Lewis Howes’s upcoming book “The School of Greatness” in which Lewis seeks to learn what makes people great. People like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, Deckers shoes CEO Angel Martinez, and Kyle Maynard, a young man who played football in middle school, won 36 wrestling matches in high school, and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in his 20's, despite being a congenital amputee; meaning he was born without fully developed arms and legs.

The book dives into eight principles Lewis identified while talking to these people. These principles are also chapters in his book.

8 Principles of Greatness
#1 Create a vision
#2 Turn adversity into advantage
#3 Cultivate a championship mindset
#4 Develop hustle
#5 Master your body
#6 Practice positive habits
#7 Building a winning team
#8 Be of service to others

Lewis isn’t just interviewing great people, he’s in his own pursuit of greatness, so he’s learning from them and sharing the lessons with us. In each chapter Lewis tells their stories, and then relates it to his own life. Sometimes he tells you how he’s already applied these principles, other times he tells you he’s still working on it. Finally, he shares specific exercises you can do today to apply the lessons he’s learned.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. New age “feel good” books aren’t really my thing, but that’s not what this is. This book is full of inspiring stories and practical exercises that have honestly motivated me to push it up a notch. Lewis’s story, woven throughout this excellent read, shows that we can all be great too.

Do I recommend this book? Let’s just say I plan to buy copies for my two sons. Then I’m going to read it again myself.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Read to help with Goal Setting for 2016 3 décembre 2015
Par Jeremy Striffler - Publié sur Amazon.com

How do you achieve greatness? Lewis Howes entices those of who strive for more with his recently published book called The School of Greatness. The premise poses the intriguing idea that with just 238 pages we could take a world-class course in how to live a great life. Perhaps hokey to the more cynical minded, but for dreamers like myself it caught my eye.

Howes is an All-American athlete who after suffering a career-ending injury and being dumped after moving across the country found himself broke of heart and broke of spirit laid up on his sister’s couch for months. But sometimes rock bottom points us to our peak, and he ended up getting back up, creating a multi-million dollar business and motivating thousands as a public-speaker and consultant.

In the book, Howes identifies eight lessons that he learned along his journey and through the many “professors” that he interviewed over the past few years on his podcast. I’ll provide a quick summary of each :

1.) Create a vision – Identify a specific vision with a clear set of goals to achieve your dream. Further, make that vision your new identify.
2.) Turn adversity into advantage – Let the challenges in your life be the motivators to pursue your dreams. Accept your failures and be grateful for them as they move your towards success.
3.) Cultivate a champion’s mindset – To be a champion one must think like a champion, which is rooted in a strong belief in one’s self. This belief is coupled with vision, focus, discipline and humility
4.) Develop hustle – You must embrace a burning desire to do what others are unwilling to do. To achieve your goals you have to work harder and smarter.
5.) Master your body – Greatness starts with the mind and the body. Sleep, nutrition and fitness are all keys to ensure that we feel good so that we have the energy to get what we want in life.
6.) Practice positive habits – Daily habits can make the difference. Make your bed, meditate, go for a walk every evening, read for 30 minutes each day – whatever the habit, commit to it.
7.) Building a winning team – Surround yourself with people who motivate and inspire. Cultivate strong relationships. Find the right mentor or coach. And cut those people who are not helping you on your path to greatness.
8.) Be of service to others – In addition to improving your own life, improve the lives of those around you – your family, friends, community and the world. Think outwardly to achieve greatness.

The book is easy to digest even as it gives you a lot to consider. Each chapter includes exercises to help put these lessons into practice. For me, it requires a second reading in which I force myself to dig deep and consider each lesson a bit more closely. However, the books works on just the surface level to challenge yourself to do better.

I have never listened to his podcast but definitely want to check them out now. My only surprise with the book was that his “professors” were not bigger names. Not to mean that insight can’t be gained from people of less renown but some of his examples – like his brother and a friend from high school – while impressive felt too shoehorned. Overall though it was worth the time and consideration and will be a book worth revisiting as I work through my goal setting for the year ahead.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Not Just Wishy-Washy Inspiration, Powerful Tools and Insights to Living a Vibrant Life 9 mars 2016

In a world where so much information that is available, it is difficult to discern what book is noteworthy of your time. But let me tell you something, I, seriously, think this book is worth your time. This guy, Lewis Howes, has been around some of the greatest minds of our time for the past few years doing his podcast. This book is, in essence, a gift to the world in which he shares everything he has learned during this time. While there is a beauty and power to hearing motivational and inspirational speakers, I feel that many, though they may incredibly help and serve people, leave people feeling inspired; however, they leave them with no practical tools to pursue the big dreams their encouraged to pursue. So, what happens? People feel good and encouraged for a moment, but they end up remaining stuck!

Not Lewis. In this book, Lewis does have an inspirer's voice that ebbs through these pages; however, unlike other books all around the marketplace, he packs the book with insightful tools that will helps readers live to the fullest, pursuing their dreams, obtaining results and making the world a better place. It's been a game-changer for me, and I know it will be a big game-changer for everyone else reading it. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The stories and examples in this book make you want to MOVE. Empowering you to begin the journey to fulfilling your dreams. 2 novembre 2015

Do you have dreams to fulfill in your lifetime? Are you taking steps towards it right now? Are you looking for some inspiration? How about something motivational? Imagine if there was a class you could take that dove deep into the minds of current people who are the leaders in their field, who are successful, and GREAT? And then that class also showed you step by step HOW to become that way too?

Well, the author of this book, Lewis Howes, has done that here. The stories and examples in this book make you want to MOVE. Move towards the things that in the past, we may have dared not to dream. Perhaps it's that dream that seems too far-fetched, too difficult, requires time, or it's just not the right time. Well, after reading just the first chapter you will see why it's time to dare and to take the leap now and to not hold back anymore. Lewis Howes empowers you in this book to start your journey by creating a vision. Then the next steps continue to be actionable to achieving those dreams.

I read a lot of books in the same category this book falls into and I must tell you, this is in the top three for me because it is an easy read with great flow, it is non-intimidating, and very relatable. Some books spend most chapters all about the why and then spend only a couple chapters to tell you the how. This one leans heavy on the how, which is why your money spent is worth it here! And bonus...the topics in this book are applicable in any situation that you want to achieve true greatness: business, relationships, or life! This book has been with me everywhere since I've gotten it. It has highlights on every page because the content is so valuable. It's that kind of book, people!! A true value-add.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Great Book By A Truly Great Person 27 octobre 2015
Par Heather Poduska "Clear Voice Branding" - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
Lifestyle entrepreneur, Lewis Howes is the real deal. He is a true brand star exuding excellence, charm and authenticity. However, don't let his fame fool you into thinking the good life was handed to him on a silver platter. Lewis went from broke and broken to multi-million dollar entrepreneur by following the steps he has so adeptly laid out in his new book, "School of Greatness." Lewis earned his success by throwing himself into religious self-development and embracing the hustle. Now he shares what he's learned in "School of Greatness" creating a step-by-step blueprint for anyone who wants to extract their own greatness including thought-provoking tips and exercises to help the reader take action.

The book is also sprinkled with inspirational stories of world class athletes and entrepreneurs, but the most impactful anecdotes are the ones from Lewis's own life. He does not go out of his way to candy coat his experiences, but rather invites us into his uncensored past so we get a first-hand look at what it really takes to triumph over adversity and make your dreams come true.

Lewis also seems to possess a unique ability for someone in his position to be extremely vulnerable and open which creates a sense of genuine care for his audience. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever dreamed of a bigger, better life. If you are ready, the teacher has appeared.
