I usually have short lapses where my mind wanders when I listen to chamber music. Last night, rather late, I played this CD. What a revelation to hear such beautiful music. My mind did not wander but went from one beautiful movement to another! I listened to the complete trio and noted that the second movement was music that I had heard and enjoyed from the movie soundtrack, Barry Lyndon. The musicians who make up this trio are excellent. Well integrated sound. The CD has a middle of the hall perspective with well balanced instruments. This group has another Schubert Trio and some Beethoven Trios CD's which I ordered the morning after. strongly Recommended!

Not what I expected... but pretty, nonetheless. I love piano, Schubert, and, well, classical, period

I just enjoy it. I don't know why, except that it is pleasant to the ear, the equivalent of lying in the grass on a mild summer day with a gentle breeze soughing through the blades of green.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Worthy performances of Schubert's E-flat Trio and Notturno by the Stuttgart Trio 19 novembre 2011
Par Mary Ann Bergman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Schubert: Piano Trio in E-flat (D 929) and Notturno (D897), Stuttgart Piano Trio.

Schubert wrote his E-flat trio in late 1827 and participated in its performance in a March 1828 concert of Schubert music in Vienna (almost the only concert where any of Schubert's larger-scale works were performed).

The opening allegro is one of Schubert's best, with a lovely, lyrical second theme and a restless, dramatic development section. The andante con moto that follows adapts a haunting theme based on a Swedish song that Schubert heard in Vienna. After the sprightly Scherzando with its energetic trio, the long last movement, a kind of sonata-rondo, brings back the principal theme from the andante and ends on a bright, declamatory note.

The Notturno, also for piano trio, is believed to have been an alternative slow movement for the B-flat Trio (D 898). The peaceful, lullaby-like opening section is succeeded by a more emphatic middle section.

The Stuttgart Trio is well known for its performances of the classical and romantic trio literature. This CD features an energetic performance of the E-flat trio, strong on emphasis but sometimes lacking a bit in lyricism. There are some disconcerting tempo changes in the andante which are not in the score. Overall, though, these are good performances of both the E-flat Trio and the Notturno. They were recorded in 1988, and the sound quality is excellent.

As usual, this Naxos CD is a good buy for the money, though there are only 58 minutes of music. Another Schubert selection of up to 20 minutes could have been added.
