HASH(0x90645e04) étoiles sur 5 A collection of eight items 30 décembre 2013
Par Mark A. Hart - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
This book is a collection of eight items:
* The Power of Scrum
* 72 Reasons Why Scrum Works
* The Scrum Checklist
* Scrum of Scrums: Agile Program Management
* Scrum Top Tips
* How to Become a Scrum Master in 7 Simple Steps
* How to Meet a Project Deadline with Scrum
* Kanban Guide

To create this 'book,' the author, ([...] bundled several documents written over the past few years.

The "Power of Scrum" segment includes an generic introduction to Scrum as a framework. It provides descriptions for the roles of Scrum Master, Product Owner, and the development team.

The "Power of Scrum" segment features an introduction to Scrum. It contains the most pages. The images in this segment are hand-drawn.

The Why Scrum Works segment contains 13 lists including "Why Sprint Retrospectives" work and "Why Product Backlog Grooming" works.

The "Scrum Checklist" segment includes lists for the Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Development Team. It includes suggestions for standup meet gins and backlog estimation.

The "Lessons from Industry" section in the "Scrum of Scrums" segment includes advice about time and frequency of meetings.

After referencing the Scrum Guide by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland at [...] the "Top Tips" segment references other Agile practices such as Test Driven Development and Pair Programming.

The "7 Simple Steps" segment includes advice from the author such as:

"After having learned the rules of scrum, you will now need to make sure that regardless of the characters you meet, the deadlines imposed by an ambitious business client or the reluctance of the individuals you meet, you continue to maintain the simple scrum rules."

The "How to Meet a Project Deadline" segment includes another introduction to Scrum.

The "Kanban Guide" segment provides an incomplete introduction ti Kanban that references David Anderson's "Kanban" book and Ron Jeffries' site at [...]

Overall, the Scum Mega Pack is written in a conversational style. Most sections are written as short introductions to selected topics.

There are deficiencies with Scum Mega Pack that limit the perceived production quality. Examples include:
* Many of the images seem to have been hand-drawn and then scanned and added to the publication.
* The writing styles and graphics styles are inconsistent from segment to segment.

The most valuable items in Scrum Mega Pack are those that provide generic summary of some item followed by "In my experience..." In these cases, readers a provided insights that the author has developed. In the "Power of Scrum " segment, the author present a generic template for writing user stories.

| As a < role >
| I want < requirement >
| So that < reason/ ROI >

The author adds:

" The third point is often overlooked, but in my experience it can add tremendous value and help the product owner to avoid adding useless features (from a user's point of view) to the backlog."

If you want a basic intro Scrum, a focal point of agile methodology, this offers a great place to start. The author summarizes his hard-won knowledge and years of experience in this brief, readable introduction.

This starts with the basics, including a description of where most project planning starts: in the “waterfall” model. Although it presents non-agile practice in a cursory and simplistic way, the discussion is adequate as a point of contrast to the newer approach. Vii then introduces Scrum basics: the notions of stakeholders, projects and roles within them, project backlogs, and sprints. Later sections flesh out these notions and describe how they all fit together. Along the way, there's plenty of discussion of why each feature matters and what makes it work – ideas the prospective scrum master will need close at hand when trying to convince people to try something different.

Frankly, I'm one who needs convincing. The absolute insistence on following the rules, no matter what, comes across as blind dogmatism. (It also reminds me of a joke about something being like violence – if it doesn't solve your problem, you're not using enough.) The author also mentions the problem of doubters, as authors in the agile world so often do. And, like those other authors, this one seems oblivious to the idea that those doubts might have solid foundation in personal pain and experience. Such dismissiveness does little to win me over. Still, if you want to see what Scrum is about, this looks like a great place to start.

To be honest, I wasn't impressed by the book. The layout is cheap, lots of lowres pictures that are hard to read.
The Scrum content is OK, but nothing new that can't be found in many other sources. Most arguments in the many "X reasons why" are too simplistic to stand the test in front of skeptical customers.

HASH(0x904f2dbc) étoiles sur 5 A compilation of lists... 27 juillet 2013
Par NbleSavage - Publié sur Amazon.com

Essentially a compilation of lists of suggestions for various roles within the typical Scrum team. Nothing groundbreaking, but could be an effective tool for getting a very new team up & running. Those with Scrum experience likely won't find anything to supplement that experience here.

Today - it is may be a proper time to finally write a review for the Scrum Mega Pack. Note that the Scrum management techniques can be applied not only to IT area, but to the other areas as well with some appropriate modifications. Scrum methodology is flexible.

It is my first long book review ever, so please be patient :)

You can find my initial review below:
"It can be useful in IT project management, and possibly some other areas:

- for the persons without too much experience in Scrum
- for the persons that want to know and understand fast the details of Scrum

I have only started to read the first part of this book, but I like it."

What else can I say? Now when I start to read it and to use it much more - I love it :)
I bought the Mega Pack a week ago. And these books are very useful for me now.

* They have a good and short references for many of the questions that appear when you start to use Scrum or you start to explain Scrum to someone else

** Sometimes when I think about some meetings or discussions - I open the proper part of the book to understand the details and the main sense of what I need to do
** Sometimes I show / explain some reasons and some details from this book to the other persons - to include them in the Scum management process.

* These books easy to read, and easy to understand

** They are fun :)
** They have some short practical stories about the common Scrum situations and scenarios

* I am excited to read in a bonus book about Kanban. I wish I have more time to read it faster :)
