Revue de presse

“This volume nicely presents translations and commentary on a text from the Dzogchen Quintessential (nyingthig) cycle of Padmasambhava, dealing with yogic energies. It explores three key questions: what is the natural energy of the cosmos, how is this energy present in our human embodiment, and what role does sexuality play in healing and liberation? The translator, Kennard Lipman, is a seasoned scholar of Tibetan Buddhist texts who is also trained in traditional Chinese medicine. I recommend this work to scholars and yogis alike.”—Steven Goodman, professor of Asian and Comparative Studies, California Institute of Integral Studies

“Here are Guru Rinpoche's precious words, sacred and secret, to be sealed in the heart, where, nourished by further commentary, they can become a basis for even greater understanding.”—Anne C. Klein, professor, Rice University, and translator of Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse

Présentation de l'éditeur

These Tibetan Buddhist teachings provide instructions for gathering and harnessing basic life energy. According to the tradition, a very effective way to do this is to arouse sexual energy and to direct the essence of that energy toward spiritual realization. According to the philosophy, sexual energy brings one naturally and effortlessly into flow with creativity and awareness in both mind and body—when used skillfully by committed practitioners with appropriate training.

These ancient texts, attributed to the great Tibetan meditation master Padmasambhava (who practiced sexual union with the famous Tibetan queen Yeshe Tsogyal), offer traditional Buddhist teachings on the nature of the elements that all beings and our world are made of. They show us a practical view of how to use life-energy for personal development. The teachings are for experienced Buddhist practitioners.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Disappointing in Terms of Detail 1 décembre 2010

At a time when published materials on internal energy from other traditions are becoming very detailed (the Taoist materials by Mantak Chia and Yang from ymma dot com come to mind), resource materials from Tibetan sources remain slim, even 40 years after Tibetan Buddhism first came to America.

This new book is primarily of value in confirming that internal energy IS of importance in Tibetan Buddhism rather than giving the reader much in the way of usable (detailed) instructions. It is principally of value in encouraging Western dharma student to keep doing their tai chi, chi gung, etc., rather than in giving them viable alternatives.

The best published materials I have seen from a Tibetan Buddhist source remain the Kum Nye books from TNMC, Tarthang Tulku, Rinpoche's, center. Albeit taught from a quasi-religious "neutral" perspective, those Kum Nye books from the 70's have some very valuable energetic exercises similar to chi gung. Those who criticize the Kum Nye books/program as "just" exercises from Tibetan medicine (secular) or Tibetan yoga "watered down" probably haven't given them much of a workout. They are profoundly energizing and truly deepen a silent sitting (Dzog Chen or Zen style) session when done before the sitting.

From a "completist" standpoint this text is _invaluable_ since nothing like it exists - a Guru Padmasambha terma on internal energy.

The translator is a long time dharma practitioner with an excellent reputation.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 PhD alone does not produce academic quality research and writing. 15 novembre 2011
Par Ricardo Roman - Publié sur Amazon.com

Having a PhD does not necessarily produce academic quality research and writing. Mr. Lipman, whom no longer takes refuge in the triple gem, states in several places that he was "fascinated" by the secret teachings of Padmasambhava, which is hardly the right motivation in my opinion and it shows. The book lacks much detail and references to the original texts. In the appendix, the ontological explanation of how the world forms according to Padmasambhava is treated very dogmatically. It is more of a description based on belief that a objective explanation. The translation also has shortcomings. The author's "fascination" with the text colors what could have been a great introduction.

I don't think that the author has gained the sufficient knowledge and the experience to qualified himself as a authoritative source on such a delicate and deep topic. Better look elsewhere.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 i don't know if this book is genuine 12 novembre 2011

i don't know - this book says it's based on real Tibetan texts, but it seems to have a distinctly new-age bent to me. i could be wrong, but i'm not sure if it's a genuine text translation - seems more like a modern mystical interpretation to me.
