Aline Templeton has a wondrously deft, unpretentiously beautiful style, full of good things (Hampstead & Highgate Express on THE TRUMPET SHALL)

Templeton has wit, a strong narrative sense and a dab hand with the atmospherics (Literary Review on LAST ACT OF ALL)

Templeton crafts a nifty plot (Gerald Kaufman, Scotsman on LAST ACT OF ALL)

Présentation de l'éditeur

Seventeen years after her death, the skeletal remains of an eleven-year-old girl are discovered buried deep in the caves of Derbyshire's Peak District. Close by the body lies a crudely-carved clay artefact of a sinister jackal-headed creature. In the ensuing police investigation, the secrets surrounding a group of now grown-up children and their sinister 'Egyptian game' are gradually revealed. Secrets which have lain buried for almost twenty years. Secrets which will emerge with unexpected and devastating consequences. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent! Hard to put down. 16 septembre 2016

I got this book as a free daily deal and was skeptical becuse the author was unknown to me, but was highly impressed and entertained by the egyptian game and the ease in which I was drawn into the mystery. The characters were believable and lovable/despisable in their own rights. The author left this story with enough interest to easily make a sequel, while wrapping up the mystery nicely. Some of the British words were difficult to understand, but I still found myself enjoying that learning experience. Overall, A+.

I'm torn about what to write. This was an interesting mystery and I did care enough to finish it. Lots of characters to keep track of and two, Kate and Eddie, that really did not advance the story in any way. I think removing those two characters would shorten the book and make it better. Tom was not a terribly likeable person and just seemed to throw police procedures out the window. He always did the opposite of what he was told. The grammar and spelling were fine but there were numerous places where a totally random word was dropped into a sentence like "he was nude about the situation." Wall was used in several places that made no sense and it would be capitalized. There were a ton of uniquely British terms that I had to look up. The author also made good use of her thesaurus as I found many words I had never seen before. I spent a lot of time with the dictionary feature of my Kindle. While this was a good way to pass a few hours, I'm not really interested in reading any more of this author.

This was a hard one to read. I can't come to grips with animal torture and even though it's "only" a story, I hate reading about it. However, the plot had more twists and turns than I could imagine. The author did a good job of leading the reader through the secrets which were kept for twenty years.

I don't want to give a spoiler - suffice to say, I was disappointed in the final unveiling of the murderer, it was unconvincing for me, quite frankly and I didn't want the main detective, Tom, to do what he did at the end. There, that's put the cat among the pigeons, hasn't it? :)

Not a bad read and worth the four stars I am giving it.

For anyone enjoying a good mystery with police work this is a wonderful book. The author builds the personalities with depth
and surrounds them in a tale of an evil group driven by a "leader" possessed by the Egyptian past. This mysterious man dominates
his circle, but dominates his wife until she leaves after mental and physical torture. The husband commits suicide in the garage,
but his computer skills frighten the wife and other members of the childhood with a virus that rears it's ugly head. My main
criticism was the end that left me wondering was there another book coming.

I always enjoy books that take place as this one does in a small English town.I thought this was very clever how it all turned out.I was surprised and that I like. I will seek out this author again.I am really enjoying my kindle, I did get it to read books and I'm still very pleased with it. I will seek out a different Templeton book to read soon. :)
