5.0 étoiles sur 5 Did Not Want it to End! 15 juin 2016

I seriously did not want The Shadow Queen to end! I loved every second of it, and if you’re a lover of fairy tales, dark magic, evil queens, and heroines with heart, then I bid you to please read it as you will not be disappointed!

The Shadow Queen starts with the young princess heroine, Lorelai, whose mother passes away, and father marries a woman that ultimately destroys her little family, and see’s both her and her brother running in fear. Years pass and Lorelai is almost ready to contend with the usurper who has used the land to fuel her magic, killing it in the process. But in another kingdom a young prince is besieged by trouble, and as his and Lorelai’s path cross little do they realize how that one meeting will start a chain reaction, and it’s all Lorelai can do to keep them both alive.

Alright…so technically it’s a retelling, and yes, the story line is (awesome) your basic run of the mill fairytale with love, battles, etc., but as an individual who loves tales like this, I found it to be such an adventure! The retelling was very unique; I loved the characters as I felt they were all developed very well with their own unique personality from villains, to sidekicks, to the main characters. The story itself moved along at a great speed, and I was never once bored at any time, nor did it ever seem so much like a retelling that everything was bland. Instead the author gave me everything I wanted in a book! Adventure, romance (not in your face insta love romance either by the way, so kudos there!), action, sadness, it was all there in one great read! I did purchase the audio version, and the narrator did such a fantastic job at portraying the characters and emotions that I felt like I was there! Currently I’m reading the book again (literally reading it this time around), and I still adore it!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Even when you've heard the story told a thousand different ways... 21 juillet 2016

When I pick up a book I look for a story that is intriguing with complex characters who I can either love, hate but find meaning in what the author is using them for while they unravel their story.

I honestly thought this was going to be a huge mistake of a purchase. How many times can you render the tale of Snow White, the evil queen & the huntsman? Well, apparently another way now.

I like a strong protagonist - when it's a female who can hold her own, all the better. If I can see the antagonist as somehow justified in why they do wrong, then I am motivated to go through the story with every avenue open & ready to be surprised.

The strong Lorelei/Snow White character was expected, but I liked this authors version. The Irina/evil queen character was pretty by the book. Envy and greed brings tyranny. But the mixture of the visual suffering Irina's power had over the people & the land caught me- not to spoil anything - but the visual of what a mother would do to save her children from a long & painful death made an impact.

The magic and dragon aspect were an interesting touch that wove neatly into the story, which made the character of Kol/Prince Charming/ the huntsman & the city of Eldr, grand in scale of what it offered as counter balance to not only the preconception of the character we know but a story arch as well.

I really enjoyed reading this book, even if I knew how it ended it was a great new turn on how to get there.

A fantasy tale only roughly similar to Snow White, except maybe for the huntsman’s part and Lorelei’s appearance. With lots more magic. It was nice to see Lorelei had talents and skills beyond her magic, too. There were some good twists in the plot. I did feel a bit distant throughout, like I was watching the characters in a movie (it actually would make a good movie), and I think that’s partly cuz it’s 3rd person and I’m used to reading in first person. It was awfully bloody and grisly in some places. Bad, bad queen!

Near the beginning when Lorelei was doing a diversion and counting down from thirteen minutes…how did she know how many minutes had gone by? The characters live with magic, horses, stables, castles, etc—surely they don’t have watches (clocks maybe, but not watches out in the middle of rural fantasy land). I was SO afraid it would end on a cliffhanger and things wouldn’t be resolved in light of an upcoming series, so thanks to the author for wrapping things up so nicely (though a bit syrupy romance-wise).
5.0 étoiles sur 5 My favorite Snow White retelling 12 novembre 2016

While I enjoyed the Defiance trilogy by Ms. Redwine, I LOVED this imaginative retelling of Snow White. A young princess forced into hiding when here evil stepmother takes over the kingdom. Years later the princess prepares to retake her kingdom before the usurper queen completely destroys it. But first she must endure agonizing trials which only help her realize her full potential. Princess Lorelai is flawed but strong...as is Queen Irina. It is their choices that make them who they are and who they become. I also love the character of Rol, a Draconi royal, whose human heart keeps his dragon heart from making him a monster, and who finds himself in the midst of Lorelai and Irina's struggle. He, too, is strong yet flawed and must prove himself more than just one side of his nature. A wonderful read for anyone who enjoys fantasy and fairy tales with rich characters and a plot that will keep you turning the pages.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 AWESOME COVER! 17 février 2016

I loved Princess Lorelai, she was strong and kind in the book, with the except of queen Irina, no one likes her. I loved the idea that the author put in draconi, **spoiler** they are dragon shape shifters! How cool is that? Lorelai's brother Leo and their guardian Gabril are wonderful characters. And I LOVE Sasha, she is a gyrfalcon that Lorelai saved and this made them bonded to each other and could speak in each others minds. Sasha was fierce and funny in the book.
