Présentation de l'éditeur

Elizabeth was a young widow with two small children when she met Congressman Richard Baker. Handsome and wealthy, with a sparkling public image, Richard seemed like the perfect man to provide the security that Beth and her kids were craving. But when she uncovers a dangerous secret about her new husband, Beth realizes he will go to any lengths—even murder—to keep it. After barely escaping with her life, she and her children flee. They eventually make their way to a secluded estate in the Pennsylvania countryside, where Beth dares to hope she has found a safe place at last...

Forced into retirement by an unexpected injury, Philadelphia homicide detective Jack O’Malley is mourning the loss of his career when his uncle abruptly dies, leaving Jack to dispose of his crumbling country house. Unbeknownst to him, his uncle engaged a caretaker just before his death, a mysterious woman with two children and a beautiful face that haunts his dreams. Determined to know her, Jack begins an investigation into Beth’s past. When he uncovers the shocking truth, and a local woman is viciously murdered, Jack puts his own life on the line to keep Beth and her children safe.

A 2012 International Thriller Award nominee for Best First Novel, She Can Run is a sexy, satisfying debut from award-winning author Melinda Leigh, packed with enough suspense and romance to get even the tamest heart racing!

A good read , a shame that the romance had to start so early in the story and took over a little too much of the real plot. Will read another one though.

After Elizabeth Baker unknowingly stumbles on to her politician husband's secret, she barely escapes with her life. Ten months later, on the run with her two children (Ben & Katie) she lands a job as caretaker to a large estate. Jack O'Malley is her new boss and an ex-homicide detective who is nursing a leg injury. He senses Beth is hiding something and wants nothing more than to help and protect her and her kids. However, there is another threat to Beth that nobody sees coming. A sadistic serial killer has her in his sights and ultimately it will be up to Jack to save the woman he loves before she becomes the next victim.

This story started out really intense and though Beth wasn't a favorite, there were so many other characters that I loved. Then there was Henry, the German Shepherd K-9 reject who stole my heart. Jack was a wonderful hero who at 48 was a bit older, great with the kids and always there when needed. It was obvious to me that he loved Beth with all his heart and was completely devoted to his new family. The romance and suspense were well written although the senator's secret as well as the killer's identity came as no surprise. Still, I found this book hard to put down and I look forward to reading the next in this series soon!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Seems like I've read this before... 31 décembre 2014

I actually read the second book first and there were references to some of the characters and a past situation that made me curious. These are fast reads and fun - but now on the 3rd book I'm wondering how many serial killers/rapists can there be in 1 small rural town? And how many chivalrous-yet-sensitive-modern men around 30-40 years of age who happen to be excellent cooks and marks-men can there be in said small town? AND how many independent, smart-yet-vulnerable-without-being-needy beautiful brunettes with perfect bodies (despite childbirth) that are just waiting for this perfect guy are there in this town? Time to shake things up with the theme even though it is a trilogy. Seems like the same story with the names changed.

I was really looking forward to this, I read some of the good reviews but apparently none of the bad, and I was incredibly disappointed. I only finished because I am too stubborn and curious for my own good. The heroine- if you can call her that- is a teeny tiny woman with incredibly large eyes and a great ass (according to the male characters description anyway- don't writers like to write of any other type of woman?), who is continually praised as being smart and brave, but does nothing to deserve that reputation. She seemed sort of stupid and helpless to me, and I am sick of reading weak female leads. The 'killer' was obvious from the start, along with who they wanted us to think was the bad guy, it was all really predictable. Add to that a psychic uncle and the fact that her new 'rescuer' is an ex cop, who has just inherited millions - and it makes the bad language and explicit sex scene seems like only a small problem.

I liked the dog.

Excellent read. She can Run Series is a set of exciting stories lightly woven around the common geographic locale of NE Pennsylvania. The books are independent of one another so can be read in any sequence but characters leak from one to another story so reading in order is preferable, though not necessary. The sheriff in book one has the male action and romantic lead and his character appears in the later novels in a minor role but serves to anchor the continuity of the story in the books that follow. Minor characters from previous books can become main characters later but this does not affect the independent read of the individual books.

I enjoy reading books that the characters are continued so I feel comfortable with a story from the beginning. Not that its the same
characters but maybe a brother or friend of the previous story.

I've been reading suspense/mystery stuff for several years now and recently discovered Melinda Leigh's books. They have a lot of
story to them and some romance which sweetens the story. I find myself surprises at the twists in the story and the bad guy is not
easily discovered which keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I enjoy these stories alot !
