5.0 étoiles sur 5 Big upgrade from my stock LX components 2 mars 2012

I own a 2004 Rocky Mountain edge full suspension which I bought new. I had probably only put 1500-1800 miles on it. I recently have found the motivation and time to dig it out again and hit my favorite trails riding about 25-45 miles a week. The first thing I noticed after dusting off the bike was my front derailleur was in sorry shape. (Along with the chain, chain rings, and rear deraileur).

I purchased this exact model from REI, as well as the Shimano XT SL-M770 Rapidfire Shift Lever. I am a mechanical person by nature, but have had little experience actually working on my bike other that the occasional derailleur adjustment. I had to purchase a better chain brake to get my old chain off, but well worth the $15. Installation was straight forward. The instructions were a little confusing as they put multiple products on the same instruction sheet. Once I figured out the path on the directions it worked out great. It did take some fiddling, but once it was set, it feels like a whole new bike again, even better than stock.

I am sure some bike nuts will have some comments, but I really like this XT package, I did the whole bike. I intended on doing a component at a time with the money was available for it, but I splurged on the rest after I put this component on. I have not gone through many bikes, and I cannot compare my experience to other derailleurs other than the LX that came with the bike, but I can say that it shifts quickly accurately, both uphill and downhill under heavy loads, and I am really happy. It has made me a more efficient rider, which to me is a whole lot more fun.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very nice upgrade.... 15 août 2011

After re-framing my mountain bike I needed to get a few new parts.

Needing a very specific front shifter (top swing, 34.9), this XT model was available at a decent price.

That was several hundred miles ago.

It was easy to setup initially and I have not touched it since that first test ride.

Shifts are smooth and accurate and lever effort is low.

For what I needed, this is perfect and it works extremely well.

The only potential issue for anyone facing installation is that you cannot disassemble the cage as it is riveted rather than bolted together, you are therefore forced to split the chain to install it, this was not an issue for me as I had the luxury of working with a new chain.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Shimano XT Front Derailleur rocks 15 octobre 2010

This derailleur is rock solid. What else can I say about it. I was so frustrated with my old Deore and by chance was told that it was shot. So, imagine my surprise to find out that all my crankset gear changing woes were easily solved by spending less than $50 on this derailleur. Installation was very easy. Reading the instructions was all it took to adjust the high and low screw adjustments to dial in perfect shifting through all three rings. I'm happy with this purchase. I should have bought it soon as my old derailleur started failing on me.

Looks good and works fantastic.
I am not liking how the cable routes over and under for a bottom pull though.
My advice is to try an leave as much extra cable as you can, makes for an easier adjustment of cable.
Other than this , I am very happy and would recommend it highly
