3.0 étoiles sur 5 Not His Best 20 novembre 2011

One can usually count on this author to produce a fast paced mystery with compelling characters. This book is okay but not his best.A serial killer dubbed the gryphon is terrorizing women in LA. After taping the women's pathetic pleas for life, he murders them, taking their heads but leaving behind a crude, handmade statue of the mythological creature. He sets his sights on the retiring and non-assertive Wendy who proves to be far more resourceful than anyone had anticipated. As Wendy out maneuvers a determined killer, she fights her growing attraction to the lead detective Sebastian. As Sebastian pursues the killer, he also puruses Wendy.

This is not a terrible story. It started slowly and really dragged through the serial killer tutorial. Wendy was a bit too mousy to be believed but her transformation was fun. Sebastian didn't have a whole lot to do but the serial killer was the biggest dispapointment of all. Yes he was bad and sadistic but not very interesting, compelling or charismatic. His final scenes were fast paced but hard to swallow. While there is entertainment value in this book, it does not rise to the level of his other offerings.

I've become a real fan of Michael Prescott. He gives us heroines and understands the female psyche.
A serial killer is on the loose. You are an ordinary woman that has been told all her life that she is not 'up to it'. You have retreated into your own small self. You are a great worker bee because you don't have anything else to really look forward to. You have a boyfriend, of sorts, but don't really think he's all that into you. You do not know how attractive you are. Meet our heroine.
How can she possibly survive an attack from a killer that just won't be killed.
You'll have to read this to find out if, indeed, she does survive or if evil is too pervasive, too strong.
Don't get me wrong, you do not have to be female to enjoy this book. It also delves deeply into a number of male characters.
Try it. You'll like it!!

Dear Mr Prescott, I am assuming that when you stated your wish for fans to contact you, you meant it. I have read quite a few of your books(see list below). I have just finished SHIVER and found it to be terrifyingly good. In fact I am one of your most ardent fans. As a pensioner I don't scare easily, being of Welsh
origin, but now a resident of South Africa. I have just finished SHIVER and although I must admit to "listening to every noise" I really loved the ending, never thinking your killer could possibly escape once more from police custody.

I have recently purchased NEXT VICTIM which I am sure will be another well thought out book.
Books Read

Yours sincerely

I absolutely LOVE these books, including this one. I've read almost every book by this author going back to when he was Brian Harper. There were 4 books that started with an S. SHATTER, SHIVER, SHUDDER, and one other I wish I could remember. The point is, these books were so good that we passed them around from friends, family, and neighbors as fast as we could. Everyone was on tender hooks waiting for their turn. Love these books.

I think I now have a new favorite author to follow.
I love the John Rain, Mitch Rapp, and Jack Reacher books by Eisler, Flynn, and Child all of whom still keep turning out fresh, good, exciting stuff.
Unfortunately many good authors like the team of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child; F. Paul Wilson, Patricia Cornwell, and even James Patterson, who once were great when still fresh, have lost their mojo.
Michael Prescott is still fresh and I hope to read all his stuff till he goes stale.
He keeps you interested and intrigued all the way and I look forward to the rest of his books. Shiver and Stealing Faces are two of his great ones.
If you like my other reads, you'll like Prescott.
Another up and coming young new talent is Rick Murcer by the way.
