Présentation de l'éditeur

Josie Bates has a full plate caring for a troubled teen, but it's about to get fuller when her ex-cop lover, Archer, is accused of murdering his disabled stepson - a son Josie never knew he had. When Timothy Wren died at California's oldest amusement park it appeared to be a tragic accident. But now Timothy's biological father and the district attorney are out for blood. Is this a criminal action with merit, a vendetta, or a shakedown? For Josie the stakes are personal. Racing against time to prove someone is framing Archer, her faith in him is tested by his honesty regarding his feelings about his stepson. Finally, she finds the truth lies not in Archer's words but with a long-forgotten silent witness. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

I finished it. There are so many super books. Sadly, I had great expectations. This story is replete with unrecognizable and confusing legal procedures. Plus, no experienced police detective would expose him/herself so foolishly. Beware, readers will be seriously misled about our legal system to their detriment. In fact, I would definitely question the lawyers' standards of professionalism. Then there's this: when writers refer to computer technology to prop-up the plot they run a big risk of using distractingly obsolete technology. *SPOILER ALERT: police officers are never incarcerated in the general population.* Disappointed.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. I am so enthralled with this series I can't get enough. I love the plots, the characters and everything about the books.
I enjoyed learning more about Archer in this book and I really felt for him in the end. I can honestly say I felt his pain when I read the last thing he said in this book and it takes a special talent to make that kind of impression on me. I do hope we see more of Jude in more books for some reason I really like that character. Great book and I can't wait to read more in this series.

This second book in the series was as engaging as the first even though it had a much darker tone than that one as the main character’s lover, Archer, is accused of killing his handicapped stepson several years earlier.

Forster still hasn’t given Archer a first name, something I found distancing for one of the primary characters in these books. And we still aren’t sure how Josie and Archer became lovers. As in the first book, she doesn’t reveal how it happened, just that it is.

The main character, Josie, doubting Archer’s innocence is very realistic. And his reluctance to ‘come clean’ about things relating to the boy’s death increases her doubts and hampers her efforts to exonerate him. I would have liked to see Josie believe a little more thoroughly in Archer.

There were a lot of behind the scenes machinations going on throughout the book. Some made sense and tied into the main plot. Others seemed to just be thrown in to add to its complexity.

Forster played fair with readers, revealing all but one clue over the course of the story, so that readers could ‘solve’ the mystery along with Josie. And even that final ‘nail in the coffin’ clue was hinted at earlier in the book.

So good job, Rebecca Forster. I’ll be back for more.

This is the second book of the series featuring Jose Baylor-Bates a lawyer. Josie is back defending her boyfriend, Archer, who is accused of killing his handicapped step-son. There are a lot of characters added to this plot about the murder but not so many that you can't stay with the plot. On the home front, Jose is having mother/daughter issues because Hannah, the troubled teen from her first book that has been placed in her care. It is a well written book with a lot of twists and turns. I will continue with this series - great mystery.
3.0 étoiles sur 5 At least get the legal part right. 17 décembre 2015

This book was just okay. Not horrible but way too wordy. I found myself skipping several pages at a time to get past the dull, monotonous, diatribe on Josie's "feelings". Enough already. I have yet to figure out she and Archer's relationship. I, and most woman I know, would drop him in a hot heartbeat. He's hostile, aggressive, belligerent, and immature. I have one more of this series waiting for me to start it. If the same quality of writing continues I will not purchase any more of them. So far, they have all been extremely predictable. BTW, No District Attorney is allowed to keep a witness list a secret nor are they allowed to deny evidence to the defense. It's called "Discovery". At least get the legal portions correct.
