Présentation de l'éditeur

As powerful magic comes creeping back, dangerous days are dawning…

Criminal Investigation Division inspectors Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko were lucky to make it out of their last mission alive. Since then, strange troubles have plagued the city of steam and shadows, apparently as a result of magic released during the CID inspectors’ desperate interruption of an ancient ritual. The fabric of the world has been unsettled, and the Council has assigned Mikani and Ritsuko to investigate.

They soon discover that matters are worse than they imagined. Machines have developed minds of their own, cragger pirates are raiding the seas with relentless aggression, and mad elementals are running amok. As the chaos builds to a crescendo, Mikani and Ritsuko must fight a war on two fronts—and this time, they may not be able to turn the deadly tide…

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love This Series! 30 avril 2014

Wow! You are in for a heck of an adventure with Ritsuko and Mikani when you read Silver Mirrors! After I proclaimed Bronze Gods as the best book of 2013, I was almost afraid to read the follow up in the Apparatus Infernum series. Could it possibly be as good? The answer is a resounding YES!

While Bronze Gods was more of a murder mystery, Silver Mirrors is a series of all-out, no holds barred, bare-fisted confrontations with the dark magical forces that inhabit Hy Breasil's Winter Island. There is no time to catch your breath between chapters. The only thing softening the action is the slow burning romance between our heroes. You will learn a little more of Mikani's past, and then cross your fingers for both Ritusko's and Mikani's future. All I can say is AWESOME!

I truly love this series. The setting and concepts are highly original and thought-provoking. I hope they prove to be fodder for a long, successful series of books!

True story - Shortly before I starting reading Silver Mirrors, I watched a TV show on Atlantis-like lost lands. They talked about the island of Hy Breasil. I had never heard of it before, but I suppose that is because the Architect did such a good job of hiding it from the rest of the world.....

I got an advance copy from the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

As much as I liked the first book, this second instalment never really made me feel much. It's telling that it took me five days to finish the book because when I'm well and truly hooked I can't put a book down. Sadly, that was not the case this time. It seemed like the book took a long time to get to the point and by the time it did I found I wasn't particularly interested anymore. The story is still told in third person, which meant that we got quite a bit of some secondary characters that I could've done without, frankly. I'm not giving up on the series yet (assuming there are more books to come) but I'm hoping it can recapture the something-something this book seemed to lack for me. I'm also hoping the authors cut back on the constant mental asides from the characters. I found that most annoying after awhile.

I am honestly surprised that there are only two reviews for Silver Mirrors. I am not surprised they are both five stars :-). Bronze Gods was one of my favorite books last year, Silver Mirrors is even better.
In this follow-up, you get more information about everything. You find out more about the background of both main characters as well as the world itself and the magic and elementals running through it. There is non-stop action and a romance that builds slowly throughout the book. The pace of the book is just right without a lot of contrived plot devices. Just an overall excellent book. I highly recommend the series, hopefully there is a third book waiting just around the corner :-).

I absolutely love these two books! This is the second of a two book series (hopefully, it will continue - I would love for the story to continue) that focuses on a new adventure that has evolved from the the events that took place in the first book. The world that the author has created is inviting and mysterious. This book takes of our two detectives, Ritsuko and Mikani, and places them on a trail of new evil that they need to stop before it destroys their world. While working against their growing feelings for each other they must, once again, save the day. This book has the same delightful mix of supernatural, suspense, humor, adventure and love that the first book introduced to its readers. I would highly recommend this book for its unusual mix of content and for its characters. Ritsuko and Mikani are both strong characters that are a perfect combination. In addition, the revolving cast of smaller characters are engaging as well and help to move the story along.
In this book, the detectives are being summoned to investigate the mysterious happenings that have started to happen after their success from their first case. As the story continues the detectives begin to realize that the problems stem from their first investigation and they may be the only ones who can stop it. In addition to fighting off their ever increasing amount of foes and trying to devolop allies in the most unlikely of places they are both trying to ignore their growing attraction. The author has put in just the right amount of romance that provides a great balance to their sleuthing and adventure. The story ends with both of our hero detectives figuring out what to do next after escaping the immediate danger knowing that the choices they made in this book only put them into deeper danger and problems.
The only bad thing about this book? I haven't seen anything about a third.

I received a copy of Silver Mirrors for an honest review.

I won this book in an ARC giveaway about a year ago and I was a little put off by the cover. Seriously the cover I got was a pukish mint green color with the words Silver Mirrors on it. Definitely not sexy and I am sad to say I may have judged the book by it’s ugly cover. I didn’t have the first book so I went and bought it and let them sit in purgatory forever. Anyway I put the books on my challenge and have now officially read them and they were amazing.

Silver Mirrors picks up almost immediately after Bronze Gods. Celeste was injured in the blast and is now recovering. Janus is trying to get his feeling in check for his partner and they are both trying to figure out who set up the string of murders that happened in the last book. Janus and Celeste are trying to tie the money back to one of the wealthy houses, but first they have to deal with all the crazy supernatural stuff that’s been going on since the release of power in the tunnels. Trees are acting up, the water is more dangerous than ever, and the Mirrors that send messages are acting up. The Architect is sending them away to find the root of them problem. Teaming up with Janus’ ex-girlfriends crew they set sail to save the world, again.

Silver Mirrors was even better than Bronze Gods if that is even possible. Celeste is such a major bad ass in Bronze Gods and totally makes herself even more of one in Silver Mirrors. She is the bomb. She falls down cliffs, gets lit on fire, climbs up ships and kicks some major bootay. I seriously love Celeste. I think she’s really had a lot of character development throughout the series and I just couldn’t help but find her amazing.

Janus is a given that I would like him. He’s quirky and funny and he also kicks major butt. He almost loses his mind any time something happens to Celeste and it shows how much he feels for her and needs her in his life. The two of them together are an unstoppable force and I love watching them interact with each other.

Silver Mirrors is jammed packed with action and danger. I honestly could not put this book down and was reading it during one of our schools presentations because it was that good.

Way to go A.A. Aguirre. I honestly hope there is a third book because the way they left it definitely leaves room for one. Can’t wait!
