Présentation de l'éditeur
An unwanted, girl child and dowry burden to the King, Lakshimi Cholan leaves the palace to become a devadasi, a dancer and sacred prostitute of Siva’s temple, to satisfy the demands of her father’s dynastic megalomania.
Born to be an instrument of royal and political machinations, she finds her life constantly changing to advance the careers of the powerful men around her – first her Father and King, and later, her Brahmin Master, Swami Mananda, whom she comes to love. Fascinated by the girl’s latent psychic abilities, Mananda’s tutelage changes as he secretly takes the former princess as his Tantric partner, however, a romantic relationship is forbidden by their shared spiritual bondage to the temple.
When the scheming Swami Bhagwan topples the Brahmin’s hierarchy, Mananda, his career thwarted, abandons his life and his girl behind. Lakshimi must choose if she will obediently stay, or break convention and caste rules to leave the temple and search for her lover.
