HASH(0x991eba20) étoiles sur 5 Dashboard Confessional So Impossible EP 15 mars 2003
Par thethoughtsofadyingatheist - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This is without doubt the best CD released by Dashboard Confessional. Whilst it once again disappoints on length (3 EP's released with a grand total of only 11 songs?), it more than makes up for that by containing 4 brilliantly written songs. These four songs also trace a wonderful story line, from trying to do everything right and get the girl to notice you (For You To Notice) to the first date and wanting to know everything about them (So Impossible) then through some nervous times (Remember to Breathe) until we reach what Chris apparently calls "the best day of my life" (Hands Down) which contains the great line "safe in here form all the stupid questions, `hey did you get some?', man that is so dumb". All four songs are brilliant and whilst "Hands Down" would have to be my favourite the sheer passion in each song is wonderful to listen to.
This CD is also completely acoustic which I believe is what makes DC so unique. Some of his newer releases have involved a band (drums and bass) on some songs and I think this has caused some of these very passionate songs to lose their charm (I think that DC sound the least acoustic on what is meant to be an "unplugged' album). I'm also aware of the fact that he must evolve and change but I think bass and drums are too big a jump at the moment and believe this recording is a perfect evolution for the time being. Here he has simply included another acoustic guitar to bolster the music, one playing lead the other for rhythm, and also a very sparse arrangement of piano that works beautifully.
As a lover of acoustic music I can't recommend this highly enough, brilliantly written, wonderfully arranged, and passionately performed, what more do you want? Lets just hope that the next album isn't too full of bass and drums.
Brilliant - 5 stars

HASH(0x991ebb70) étoiles sur 5 Expensive and short yet his best material to date. 14 janvier 2002
Par Alec Rojas - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
While his two previous releases, Swiss Army Romance and The Places You Have Come to Feel The Most, have been staples of emotional acoustic rock, Chris Carrabba's (Dashboard Confessional) new EP is the apex of his career so far. Unfortunately a short collection of songs, these four tracks were recorded before his current headlining tour with his new back up band (members of Seville and indie rock legend Dan Hoerner of Sunny Day Real Estate).
In a personal preference, this CD shows Carrabba's depth and growth as a songwriter and lyricist. In his previous releases, he stuck with 2 main guitar tunings (Db sus2 and standard) and sung in a loud, declarative fashion. His lyrics, though descriptive and personal, never really deviated emotionally. On the new EP he has managed to expand his musical and lyrical depths. Songs such as "For You to Notice" and "Hands Down" demonstrate his new-found penchant for description and song writing skills. The addition of Dan Hoerner to the band has made a dramatic difference: Dan's presence allowed more depth in the music and a second guitar, bringing in a second melody line throughout most of the songs.
In short, it's my favorite Dashboard Confessional release to date. For the casual listener it's extremely catchy and easily his most accessible music to date, along with his best. Most fans should be satisfied with it and the new listeners will find this his most enjoyable piece of music to date. In short, pick this up.

HASH(0x991ebeac) étoiles sur 5 Great concept, good execution 27 janvier 2002
Par Sancho Perez - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Chris Carraba is truly one of the great song writers of the indie scene today. He writes inspired, wonderfully emotional lyrics. His use of clever metaphors and vivid imagery make for truely unique songs. This example demonstrates his amazing lyrical talent. On the first listen, I didn't know how the songs were related. However on subsequent listens, I discovered the whole cd told the story his struggle to get a girl to go out with him. Every song adds elements to the story and you can't help but feel good when she calls him for a date. These songs convey a sense of optimism that was lacking on "The Places You've Come to Fear the Most". He writes with a maturity that belies his age, however writes about topics any teen can relate to. The excellent instrumentation seen in previous releases continues in this one. However I don't like the vocals as much. The EP lacks the backup vocals that added depth to the full length releases. Also, he tires to keep his voice unnaturaly low at some points. He doesn't use the full range of his vocal capabilities and lacks emotion. My only other problem is with Vagrant records, way to charge 10 bucks for a 4 song EP, also don't order from Vagrant. I ordered a mix cd five weeks ago and still havent got it. But this is another solid effort by Carraba.

HASH(0x991eb9d8) étoiles sur 5 love story gone emo 29 mai 2005
Par Kyndle Naric - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
A great 4 song love story... Seeing someone and wanting to get to know them, The anticipation of asking someone out and the excitement of getting to know someone. It captures the way you feel and worry about what to wear on the first date, and then the way it all comes into one perfect play. Just perfect.

I love the older stuff, it's the best because it's more of a time when their music could be played more how they wanted. ANd now that they've become more popular, their music sounds canned (a mark, a mission, a brand, a scar). If you like the older stuff like Swiss army romance, you'll love these acoustic songs.

HASH(0x99285384) étoiles sur 5 too amazing for words 6 juin 2004
Par kath - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
this is by far the most amazing thing i have ever heard. i barely know how to say it. it's the first cd that ever made me cry. despite only being 15 minutes long, it's well worth it. remember to breath is such a beautiful song. each song perfectly captures the emotion of the four basic stages of starting a relationship:
1-you want them, they don't know you exist
2-they ask you out, you wanna know more about them
3-being overly nervious, first date jitters type thing
4-having the perfect date
wheather you're a long time fan or new to dc, this is a must have!
