So of course, now that I have the Galaxy S3, I looked for Steiheil and I'm as happy as I was with my previous purchase.
The quality of the protector can't be matched, in the case of the Ultra Nano, the clarity is amazing. But besides its clarity, the protector is thin and doesn't interfere with Swype, pinching, browsing, etc.
The squeegee has been improved this time around. It is still high quality, but it is now more flexible; made of thick harden rubber, so it isn't too hard or soft. Perfect for removing bubbles.
The cloth is very standard. Good for preping the screen before application, but it's nothing that shouts "quality". But it isn't bad enough to give this product a lower score.
The only problem I had with this protector is installation; don't get me wrong, it is simple to do, but since the protector is so thin, it can be hard to manage while installing. I ruined the first, BUT, it was MY MISTAKE. I was expecting the same thickness of the first protector I bought for my GS 2, and so I thought I could "skip" some installation steps, but it didn't work. So do yourself a favor, follow the instructions to the letter; I did the second time around and the installation went fine. Also, you may get more bubbles, again, the thickness, but luckily, with the included squeegee, the bubbles are taken care of, in no time, and without much effort.
In conclusion, if you expect "quality", this is the protector you should buy. Steinheil is simply great.
So... It's been 20 days since I installed the screen and it's already bent out of shape. The dents and excessive need to push out the bubbles is way too much. The screen lifted as I was taking it out of my pocket and a bunch of lint and dust stuck on. This is unbelievable. The description said it won't lift, but it still does. I admit the screen is slick and feels like a naked phone but if I need to replace it every 3 weeks, I'll say no thank you. This is going back and so is the case I bought separately. I'm so disappointed with SPIGEN.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (August 4, 2012): 2 STARS
So this is my first SPIGEN screen protector. I had high expectations because of the rants and raves I've seen for other phones. Sadly these didn't really meet my expectations. I've had two other touch screen phones both with Clarivue screens and was very easy to apply both times with my HTC Eris and ReZound. I know, they're not curved glass but the durability of those screens were a lot better. So on to my experience with SPIGEN nano screens...
The first screen I opened was not even usable, I peeled back the #2 (back) and off comes a chunk of adhesive, sticking onto the back protective peeling plastic.. I think, okay... no problem they came with 3 screens. This one probably was a defective one in the bunch.
On to the next screen. The second screen peeled off okay but creased really easily and rendered it unusable. At this point, I was like.. okay that was probably my fault for the crease. I have one try left.
On to the third, at this point I was well aware of the fragile screen.. on it went with a super careful application and I finally got it to be good. But the day after I applied it, I looked a little closer.. I centered this screen perfectly (yes, I made sure it was centered). I'm seeing the screen lifting from the glass. I understand this is a smaller screen to accommodate the curved glass, but looks like they need to down size it a little more because it's lifting on all sides.. and with all 3 screens used up, I have nothing to fall back on. So, my conclusion, the value for this isn't great from my experience. Others may have different experiences.. but I didn't get a good one. It's sad because I really did want to love SPIGEN like the others who have praised this brand. Sure this was super thin and barely noticable but I have my doubts on quality.
I want to try the curved glass screens but I'm a bit wary about SPIGEN at this point. I already paid $13.99 for this one... what if the $15.99 curved glass from SPIGEN don't meet my expectations either? I just don't know. Maybe I'll wait a while for other brands to catch up and design a curved glass version.
I'm waiting on the neo hybrid case... maybe it'll set my heart at ease with SPIGEN but I'm just very disappointed from this experience.
Oh, and please do note that I nearly gave this a 1 star. If this last screen fails within the month, expect a downgrade in rating.
