Présentation de l'éditeur

In Sports Medicine Simplified, you will quickly learn the meanings of hundreds of sports injuries and treatments to keep you performing at your best.

If you're an athlete, a parent or coach of an athlete, or a healthcare professional treating athletes and active people, Sports Medicine Simplified can help you understand even the most complex sports and exercise injuries.

Have you ever wondered what a syndesmosis injury is? Even if you know that it is often called a high ankle sprain, do you know what that description actually means, and why it is important for return to play? Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of sudden cardiac death among athletes, but what is it, and what are the symptoms? In Sports Medicine Simplified, Dr. Geier explains these terms - and many more - in short descriptions that you can understand.

Dr. David Geier, a leading orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine expert, receives thousands of questions from people all over the world through his sports medicine platform, including his blog, podcast, newspaper column, and more.

"So many people don't know if they should see a doctor after they get hurt exercising or playing sports. Or they see a doctor but still don't know what they should do. Most of the time, they just don't understand what some of these fancy medical terms mean. An older tennis player might be told he needs hyaluronic acid injections in his knee, but he has no idea what these treatments are or how they work. A female runner might be asked to undergo a nuclear bone scan for leg pain, but she doesn't know why she needs it when she already had x-rays taken. I hope that Sports Medicine Simplified does just what it says - to make complex sports medicine concepts simple for anyone who exercises, plays sports, or works with people who do."

Sports Medicine Simplified is a terrific resource for quick, easy-to-understand information on sports injuries, injury treatments, and medical terms.

In Sports Medicine Simplified, you'll find:

* Hundreds of definitions for almost every term used in sports medicine, using language that any athlete, parent, coach, or active person can understand
* Photographs of common injuries suffered in sports and exercise
* X-rays, MRIs, and surgical images and captions to help demonstrate the injuries and treatments
* Easy-to-navigate organization to help you find any term you need quickly - Search by body part, category, or alphabetical order. Click on links within the definitions to learn about related terms.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Most Comprehensive Source for All Things Injury 30 janvier 2014

Dr. David Geier created an amazing resource with his glossary. It literally contains every sports-related injury you can imagine, with information about the injury, pictures, help with identifying it, treatment suggestions, and more. I'm not a doctor, or in the sports business, but I found this book helpful in learning more about some big (and small) sports-related injuries.

Dr. Geier takes what I'm sure is very complicated medical jargon and presents it in an easy to understand guide, without dumbing down the information. It's like translating doctor speak into what's actually going on! I definitely recommend any sports-playing parents or athletes, purchase this glossary to be in the know, should any injury arise.

This is a great resource for any sports fan, athlete or anyone who wants to understand the medical jargon thrown around in media today. News reports list injuries that famous NFL/NBA/MLB/NCAA athletes suffer, but they seldom describe the injury or the treatment/rehab options available. Athletes and/or their parents of young athletes also would like to be educated about any injury concerns they may have had in the past This glossary offers a detailed look at a plethora of sports injury topics - and the explanations are an easy read, even for someone without a medical or athletic background. The presence of countless images definitely bolsters the descriptive power
