Présentation de l'éditeur
Learn over 50 essential words at the heart of Spanish and how to put them together to make yourself understood. This 1-hour basic introduction to Spanish with the Michel Thomas Method will get you speaking the language immediately: no books, no pens, no memorizing - just listen, connect and speak.
How does it work?
During the course, you will join Michel, Michel Thomas Method teacher Dr. Rose Lee Hayden and two students in a live lesson, hearing both their successes and their mistakes to keep you motivated and involved throughout the course. Within the very first hour you will be able to construct simple phrases by listening and thinking out answers for yourself without the pressure of writing or memorizing.
Why is the method so successful?
The Michel Thomas Method was perfected over 50 years by celebrated psychologist and linguist Michel Thomas. This unique method works with your brain and draws on the principles of instructional psychology. Knowledge is structured and organised so that you assimilate the language easily and don't forget it. The method breaks down the language into building blocks that are introduced sequentially in such a way that you create your response and move on to ever-more-complex sentences. You'll stick with it because you'll love it.
Where do I go next?
After you finish your Start course, you can move to the Total Spanish course, which includes 7-hours of audio and a practice CD-ROM. Perfect Spanish follows on from the Total course with 11-hours of audio and a practice CD-ROM.
Don't be tied to chunky books or your computer, Michel Thomas Method audio courses let you learn whenever you want: at home, in your car, or on the move with your MP3 player.

Michel moves quickly without being confusing or overwhelming. One of the aspects of this method is that he takes the time to explain the correlation between English and Spanish words, and their respective rules. He also explains the pronunciation of words and syllables so you practice saying them correctly from the beginning instead of having to unlearn bad pronunication later (the soft "b" instead of a hard "v", for example - Pimsleur had speakers who routinely randomly mispronounced words with no explanation as to why).
I don't mind that the two students make mistakes - this is actually helpful because Michel takes the time to correct them and explain *why* he made the correction. However, the male speaker in this course is ridiculously distracting. He speaks in short, staccato syllables like he's some kind of caveman just learning to communicate. Frankly, he just sounds...dumb, and it gets incredibly irritating.
Michel can also be a bit difficult to understand - he sounds a little like he has cottonballs in his mouth. That said, he takes the time to spell new words he introduces (which is awesome), and his pronunciation of Spanish is excellent and easy to understand. His voice is *very* dynamic - no monotone voice actors here. This helps to keep you engaged and entertained through the lessons.
I've learned **dramatically** more Spanish over the past week with the Michel Thomas method than I learned with either Pimsleur or Rosetta Stone combined. I'm able to speak in complete sentences without my Spanish-speaking co-workers going "huh?". I'll be purchasing the advanced course next without hesitation. I just hope that male speaker isn't on the next course. :)
