*its a reskinned siberia v2 frost blue which is still around 100$ so for 59$ this is an absolute steal
*steelseries software is GREAT. not once has it crashed and for audio is fully customizable
*USB soundcard in case your onboard audio is like mine and is complete p00p (this however is not an option. USB ONLY)
*excellent sound. high, lows, and mids are great and bass level is where it should be even at default.
*covers your ear and has decent noise cancelling
*usb extension cord has a good length and durability. (i run over the cord with my chair constantly and have done 0 damage to it)
*d3 theme and illumination is nice
*microphone could be better, but it isn't bad. maybe add some customization in the drivers for it as well
*it is exactly the same as the siberia v2 frost blue just reskinned
*my frost blue's left ear cup died within 10 months (thankfully within 1yr warranty). steelseries took almost 3 weeks to have it replaced even though the facility is within 15 miles from where i live. they replaced it with brand new product and not refurbished which is nice
The elastic inside the headband is way too cheap, too weak for this gear. I've had to open my headband to check it and it seems worn out! I'm replacing the elastic for a brand new one (which I'll have to buy and sew myself) with just two months of actual use, because I can't stand the ear pieces pulling my ears down all the time (it ends up giving me headaches in less than two hours of playing). The ear pieces are hardly adjustable too, and this headset doesn't feel lightweight at all for me - after I remove it, I still feel it on my head for quite a while.
Also, the USB plug is very bulky, pretty large on the smaller sides, so it keeps pushing other USB plugs sideways. I had to use the extension cord just to be able to keep my mouse receiver on the same side of my computer, making a nice mess on my desk. The extension cord, by the way, is not covered with nylon to prevent tangling and breaking.
The mic and volume control piece is just maddening, because it has a square-like form and is too big. I think it should be something lean and oval-like, something that adapts well with the headset cord. Actually, every "just above cheap" headset that I've had before presented a better control piece in this aspect.
The software is another disappointment. It seems all pretty, has this Diablo 3 appearance, but it's just so simple and poor that I really would rather have SteelSeries develop something with clear interface but with actual nice resources/features. And it should include controls for the mic. The pretty interface doesn't pay off for the lack of effort in the programming of this software.
Overall, my conclusion is that the idea of this headset was way bigger than the work put into making it. The design is beautiful, truly unique, but lacks functionality and comfort. And when you take a better look at it, it seems that it was produced in such a hurry that no one ever stopped to realize about the finer details. I expected more from a SteelSeries/Blizzard licensed product, specially if its regular price is above $100.
It's EXTREMELY comfortable. The lights are really nice. They pretty much automatically form to fit your head - there's no awkward adjusting to get the right fit, they just move as you do, and because I have a somewhat-larger head, that means a lot (especially considering it's the perfect fit - not too tight and not loose, and still comfortable).
I've gotten no complaints about the mic not being good - everyone says I sound much clearer and better than before, and the sound is really nice, loud and clear.
The cord by itself is a bit short, but because of the extension they have in the package as well, that was no issue what-so-ever since now it's a really long one. (Perfect for me who always gets up without even thinking of taking the headset off first - even enough room for a good few steps away).
I don't really have any major/minor cons for it yet, to be honest. It's everything I thought it would be and I love it. :) I will update the review if I come across some, though.
Overall an extremely good and affordable headset that I would recommend to anyone.
