I love to get a collection,.especially as a freebie, so thanks to the author and Amazon for this very nice mix by Dorothy McFalls. In all of the stories, the writing was good, there were no pesky editing problems, the characters were well developed and interesting, the dialogue was good and the plot was engaging.

The first story, The Marriage List, I would characterize as a sweet romance. The hero, a dashing viscount wounded in the war against Napoleon, decides he's challenged death enough and needs to marry and begin his family. Unfortunately, the woman he can't seem to get off his mind doesn't meet any of the carefully listed criteria he decided to use when choosing a wife.
Heat factor mild.

Lady Iona's Rebellion brings back two of the supporting characters from the first book to give them their own romance. This book is a spicier regency romance with a Rake leading an innocent Duke's daughter down the path of temptation. Or it the other way around?
Heat factor moderate.

In Taken by Moonlight, the author takes us into the paranormal world with a romance between Lady Amelia, who was stolen from her dead werewolf parent's arms and raised as the daughter of an Earl. She knows nothing about werewolves or how they're being hunted. But one member of the pack has a vision that if this lost child is returned, the hunting will decrease and the pack will increase. The pack turns to Viscount Dimitri, a lone wolf who already has a place in London society to plan her retrieval. Unfortunately, Dimitri realizes that she's his mate and he can't just turn her over to the pack Alpha. He's going to have to not only fight his Alpha for her, but rejoin the pack and all it's politics and problems. No one ever said that the course of true love ran smoothly.
Heat factor moderate.

The last book in this quartet is entitled The Nude. It refers to a painting that went on display in the Museum of London along with many others from an artist known only as Dionysus. The few who deal with the artist, getting his works to the dealers, etc...are sworn to secrecy about his identity. Lady Elsbeth, the recently out of mourning Dowager Countess of Redgrave, has never met the artist, doesn't know who he is, although her late husband tried to give her some paintings by Dionysus during their courtship and pretend that he had painted them. Elsbeth doesn't know that she has been the muse for the artist since before her come out and marriage, when she was just a young girl frolicking in the park. After her long absence for her mourning, Dionysus could not help but imagine her nude. The picture was for himself only, never to be included in the show, but somehow it was taken and unveiled with great flourish right in front of Elsbeth and her family. Elsbeth's reputation was ruined and no one would believe that she didn't pose for the picture and didn't know the artist intimately.

Enter Nigel, the Marquess of Edgeworth who claims to be the sponsor of the artist and knows the mistake that was made and makes it very clear to Elsbeth, and her family, that he will do everything in his power (which is considerable) to clear her name and restore her reputation in the ton. He has other problems to worry about though, like people trying to kill him for his title and fortune. Can this one man, in the course of a week long house party, restore the reputation of one woman who is also determined to save his life?
Heat factor hot.

All in all, I really enjoyed these stories, that do indeed run the gamut from sweet to spicy, from traditional regency to more mystery to paranormal regency. That's fine with me because I read them all. Here's a way for you to try out a different type of book, but stay within the genre you like. They range from mild (just a few kisses) to moderate (a wedding night not described in graphic detail) to hot (some sexy sex not limited to the bedroom and described in more graphic detail).

Worth the .99 I paid for this collection of 4 books.

The Marriage List... A nice story..a couple of tame love scenes... Did not leave me feeling like I'd wasted my reading it.

Lady Iona's Rebellion...A follow up to the Marriage List....I really enjoyed this book. During the middle I started feeling like it was dragging on...but the ending was well worth it...Absolutely loved the ending.

Taken by Moonlight...I'd give this one a 1 star...I think it was a short story, didn't take me long to read it. This one left me shaking my head, wishing somebody had warned me to skip it. Hero can turn into a wolf. wolf pack kidnaps heroine, (she doesn't know that her real parents were wolf people too), To keep the packs Alpha from raping heroine, the hero spends 10 minutes seducing her. Afterwards, while threatened by the alpha the heroine turns into a wolf. Hero become new alpha, and the very next day heroine is declaring to all that she loves the hero...what???

The Nude is the final book in this collection...would probably rate it a 3 star. It had a lot of potential, good plot, dangers. Too many characters at the start left me confused for awhile...then the book just started dragging. At times I was left wondering if even the author knew where she wanted to go with this story.

I usually enjoy Regency romances, but reading the Sweet and Spicy Regency Collection by Dorothy McFalls felt a little like wading through quick sand in the fog. I was very glad when I finally finished the last book.

Although each of the plots were good, the execution was just too wordy, with way too much angst, inner musings and players running in circles. Instead of my emotions being positively engaged, I just felt annoyed. With the exception of The Nude, each of the sets leading men were dark, hard and unlikable in the beginning, only to be miraculously transformed at the end. Each of the heroines (including the one in The Nude) were victims and seemed unable or unwilling to stand up for themselves unless or until their “white knights” rescued them. Lastly, even a Regency romance could use a little humor to balance the drama. I have read many other works with just such a balance and each was an enjoyable read, even when there was a dangerous mystery or damsel in distress.

On a positive note, I liked that each story was a stand alone with good endings. Each had a different plot, with only The Marriage List and Lady Iona's Rebellion having connecting characters. I liked that Taken by Moonlight featured a Regency wolf shifter plot and that The Nude was a sexually charged Regency mystery. Thankfully, all of the books were free of vulgar language.

I read the first book separately; enjoyed it and decided to purchase this collection since it was cheaper to buy the set instead of individually. This collection includes three full length books and one short story (not my favorite). Out of the four, I enjoyed three. The short story, even though it took place in the 1800's like the other stories, didn't go with the theme of any of the stories. It was more of a paranormal regency romance which some might like, however I just read it quickly and went to the next. Another thing to note; the first two books deal with the same set of characters. You get to meet them in the first book and then some of them have a story of their own in the second which I liked. The third and fourth books do not have anything to do with the first two and are both stand alone books.

If you enjoy regency romance this might be a good collection. There are some steamy parts in all of the stories. Some might consider them explicit however I did not think they were too descriptive or explicit but that is only my opinion. These are not squeaky clean stories either. The fourth book deals with abuse and might be disturbing to some readers so proceed with caution if you read that one.

In the end, this was an enjoyable set of stories to read. I also think the third story could have been omitted from this collection but again, just my opinion.

I didn't read the whole collection. I read "the nude" and, while it was very interesting and suspenseful, it really wasn't that great. It was too modern. Literally one of the male main characters proposes to a girl on the assumption that they will be "equal business partners." The other main character had an illegitimate child with an ex-mistress and it was treated as "no big deal." He even admitted it to his new wife when questioned and brushed it off as no big deal as if a child's legitimacy didn't matter. Keeping with the modern way, he had visitation time with the child even. Yeah right. And of course, the main heroine was abused by her ex-husband so all men are the enemy to her. As with most modern day romances the theory is that good men have modern feminist viewpoints and bad men are the ones who have old fashioned viewpoints and are wife-abusers. I wasn't really interested in continuing to read all of the series. I just couldn't really get into it. I was intrigued by "the nude" because I wanted to see "whodunit" so I kept reading. It was ridiculous. The female heroine thinks she has to protect her husband and a whole group of girls go to hunt down a murderer right alongside the men and all the men just accept it as no big deal. Get real.

I might read the others and give an update later but for now I'm just not interested.
