Update - I purchased on Amazon a Bormioli Rocco Jar Gasket here on Amazon. When it arrived, I trimmed off the tab on the edge, and then trimmed the center about an eighth of an inch and it worked perfectly as a replacement gasket. So, now the machine works perfectly well. Bormioli Rocco Glass Co 6 Piece Fido Jar Replacement Gaskets, 3.25", White
Someone else's review mentioned the gasket may need replacing so I purchased the -- Bormioli Rocco Glass Co 6 Piece Fido Jar Replacement Gaskets, 3.25", White -- at the same time. It was easy to trim off the tab and a bit of the inside diameter and immediately insert that gasket in assembly. It was easy to assemble and has been a trooper already dealing with my greenhouse tomato crop. It is fairly easy to clean IF you get to cleaning it RIGHT after use.
I can't afford a decent heavy duty kitchenaid so I purchased this instead. The top hopper and the end drop cone are plastic, so take a little care with those, and it should give you a lot of use. As my garden starts to come in later this spring, I expect it to be well used to help process almost everything--it is much easier to sauce or pulp things in the steps to preserving the home harvest. A friend had one so I could try it before buying. The only difficulty is clamping it down firmly enough. You will have to use a table or workbench, it won't clamp to my countertops.
I also bought a berry screen to make seed-free berry jam; the mesh size on the berry screen doesn't look much smaller than that on the apple/tomato screen that comes with the device. I suspect the original screen would work fairly well for most blackberry and raspberry seeds. Won't find out until next summer.
