This is not a book it's a pamphlet. It tells you about the poses, it doesn't show you. Only 39 pages

This is a good book for those who are beginning or thinking about beginning to study Tai Chi. This book explains everything you need to make a decision as to whether to take lessons or to continue in those lessons. There are explanations about the different technics, what tai chi really is and what it can do for you. In other words I see this book as a great companion guide to those who already practice the art and a good source of information to those who are thinking about it.

I was curious how a short eBooks would present the basics of Tai Chi. Prescott Marshall does a very fair job with introducing the principles and preliminary needs of Tai Chi, even giving a well thought out written description of beginning forms with a handful of unfortunately not very illuminating illustrations. And that is the main hit against Marshall's offering here. A complete novice will be rather lost with just written descriptions of movements, pacing, stances, and visualizations. However, if used in conjunction with a video course (there are plenty out there on youTube), the intrepid explorer of the benefits of Tai Chi as a low-impact exercise good for all ages will gain greater benefits from the eBooklet.

One last hit against TAI CHI: A BEGINNERS GUIDE is the lack of a two-way linked ToC, making it necessary to manually flip around when looking for a particular section. To clarify, one cannot simply click on a header in the main text to return to the ToC, which for older Kindle eReaders (like the Kindle Keyboard) is a bit of a hassle as they do not offer the convenience of a one touch back-key to return to the ToC.

I regularly review eBooklets but do not allow the asking price of each eBooklet to influence my final review and rating, concerning myself with ONLY the content and format as compared to similar offerings, allowing the potential consumer decide if the price is worth the usually *very* short page length.

This book is an excellent resource to have if you want to learn the Tai Chi practice from the clothes you wear to every body movement and through the stances and warm up exercises. The author explains what Tai Chi is and all the benefits associated. I recommend this book to anyone who might be interested in an alternative exercise that results in a full body workout including the internal organs.
