I found this book to be interesting as it is full of facts about Alaska towns and an insight into the RV community. I felt as though I was really there amongst the Vagabondoo's and its an insight on relationships - how they are the same all the world over. I think this was written in the 1980's and if it is still the same, I would love to go and see for myself all the lovely sounding towns and the scenery. Worth a read if you are interested in touring, even if your not interested in RV's.

Wer einmal vor hat nach Alaska zu reisen, dem empfehle ich dieses Buch. Es enthält sehr viele Informationen die möglicherweise sehr hilfreich sein können. Der Reisebericht hat mir gut gefallen, ich kann dieses Buch nur weiter empfehlen.

Considering this book was first published twenty-two years ago, it has aged very, very well. It's a humorous tavelogue of a couple spending two months driving the byways of Alaska in their RV.

I loved the content and would be eager to read this author's other books based upon this one if it weren't for the Kindle formating/typo problems. I had to downgrade the overall rating since there are errors on practically every page and there were five in one paragraph alone. It is more than just irritating since many of the typos involved proper names -- particularly towns and landmarks. Trying to use this book to look up locations for a future visit would be difficult since the names of places changed from one point to the next. "Tbk" was really the town of Tok, etc. Almost any time a trail is mentioned, it said "TVail." Took me a while to get used to that.

While the content is wonderful, the errors significantly impacted my enjoyment since I was having to decode so much of the text to what it supposed to be.

Additional comments added:

I reported the formatting problems to Kindle Customer Support and spent 45 minutes with them while they verified the problem was indeed with the book. They eventually had me delete the book and rebuy it. This seems to have resulted in a clean copy. I purchased the book in January 2012 and they obviously "cleaned up" the copy since then but did not automatically send updates to those of us with the problem copies. I would feel confident buying it now but if you have an older version and see some of the typos and formatting issues, please contact Kindle Customer Service and get it replaced.

Something was lost in translation to Kindle format as there were numerous places where the letter "R" became a "V". Made many words make no sense and you had to stop and try to figure out what he was talking about. I wasn't impressed with the authors use of odd words in an attempt to be cleaver. And while I didn't find his comments about "red skins" offensive, there are those who would. His comments about women were a little over the top as he made several comments about how they were built as "busty", etc, which I felt is a bit out of line, and I got tired of his repeated reference to his wife that always made me wonder what he meant by that. I finished the book because I've been to Alaska, have a few friends and relatives that have lived there, but I didn't find all that much info about Alaska and I wish he was a cleaver as he wants to be. I wasn't really interested in what mixed drink he had each evening, or how much of it he consumed. As a non-drinker, I was not impressed, especially a few times when he had a drink for lunch, took a nap and then drove somewhere. Leaving the mixed drink information out probably would have shortened the book by twenty pages or more. I also found it odd the way he referred to their motor home as if it was a living thing, and made comment about it as if it were a horse.

Enjoyable Read Despite It's Age!

I downloaded this book for free on my Kindle and despite what other Kindle readers have stated about the formatting and typos, those things do not bother me.

This is an enjoyable read, I felt like I was along for the ride in their RV with them!

Having been to Alaska once and being an avid RVer, one of the things on my bucket list is to go to Alaska via RV.

I so enjoyed their laid back easy going lifestyle of traveling. I did have to keep in mind that I am reading this book in 2013 and it was written in 1990 so a lot has changed, pricing wise I am sure.

Alaska is about the scenery and the adventure and it will well be worth every penny I spend when I get to cross this off my bucket list and now even more so after reading this delightful travel journal of these great RVers!

Don't let the fact that this book was written in 1990 discourage you from reading it, I am so glad I took the plunge. There is so much to learn from their adventure.
