So many people think that they would be happy if they could just lose weight or look differently. What if that is completely backward? What if the weight is not the source of our unhappiness, but is actually the result of our hidden feelings and beliefs?

This is the premise of Jessica Ortner's new book, "The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence". Weight loss has become big business and a national obsession, as two thirds of Americans are overweight and one third are considered obese. If you have tried all of the diets and programs (you probably have or you wouldn't be here), this is the missing component that other programs need.

Another diet is not the answer. Losing weight is not rocket science. There is not a heavy person in the world that doesn't know that broccoli is good for you and donuts are bad. The reason most diet books don't work is because they focus on weight or food, but never address the root cause of why you are eating too much. The real heart of this book and process is not about food. It is about loving yourself and feeling good about your body.

I really enjoyed Jessica's writing style. It is like a personal conversation with a friend. I think everyone can relate to her openness and honesty. As she states, "I could no longer use my weight as an excuse not to be happy or go for what I wanted in life. I began to look at my relationship with my body, food, and exercise as well as sexual intimacy, pleasure, and perfection, and I realized that I wasn't broken. I just had layers of beliefs that made life feel unbearable if I couldn't turn to food for comfort." In the end, it is a feel good book about embracing life and feeling good about yourself.

This is not a book to just read. It is crucial that you do the tapping. Without the tapping, this process may show you why you have struggled with weight, but it will not give you the long term weight loss and confidence that you will get with the tapping. The tapping meditations at the end of the chapters are excellent.

If you are turned off by "touchy-feely" programs, you may be tempted to skip this book. There is a lot of science around EFT tapping, and I have been using it successfully with clients for years. The ideas and principles are really about your subconscious feelings and how they drive your eating. You are feeding your feelings and not your body. They can apply to anyone no matter what your beliefs are (yes, that does include men).

I highly recommend this book to everyone who has struggled with their eating. An obsession with food is like any obsessive relationship. It is about getting and not giving. What is missing from your life? What are you trying to get from food? This book will guide you to freedom.

This book is what everyone else says...warm, inviting, like talking with a friend. Jessica Ortner has been there and done that and was able to get a smaller sized t-shirt from the journey. So she understands.

In her book, Jessica addresses what extra weight is really about and gives the reader actionable (and easily doable) steps to effect healing within themselves and to make the shifts that they desire in their bodies, energy and lives.
Tapping is easy. You can do it anyway and Jessica shows, in this book, how easy it is to make those changes that you have previously struggled with. While Jessica didn't 'invent' tapping, she brings the practice to readers in such a comfortable, safe way that they feel supported as they work through the book.

But this book's story is much bigger than tapping or weight loss. It is about confidence. As a matter of transparency, I am the illustrator for this book. My first published illustrations. I am so excited and the reason that I was able to share my art with the world was because of this practice and the way Jessica teaches this process. She helps women to find their inner strength, to be willing to step up in life and say "I am enough". Upon reading this book and doing the tapping, the first thing that the reader will find is PEACE. Stress starts to melt away. For me, quickly. The anxiety lessens throughout the process of tapping. This feeling of calm is worth the price of the book, even if there weren't any other results. But there are many more.

After years of trying to give up diet soda, I just stopped because of this process. I didn't try. I just didn't want it anymore! That was huge for me, as I knew I was poisoning myself with the chemicals in the drinks.

In addition, I find that my whole attitude towards food has changed. It has matured. When I used to (yes USED TO) diet, I felt restricted, which I am not a big fan of, and that I was being punished by what I couldn't have. Now I understand that food isn't about just comfort or enjoyment, which was its function in my life before Jessica's work. Sure, it can be enjoyed and should be. Now I know that my body has its needs beyond my taste buds and that was a WOW moment for me. I intellectually knew that before but now I get it.

I could say so much more about this book but will close with this. While the weight loss is great, the best thing readers will get from this book is what they will gain...a new level of peace and appreciation for who they are. That is a gift that we not only give to ourselves but to the world around us. Jessica is a great model of self acceptance not because she is perfect but because she is perfectly, beautifully human and so openly shares her experiences with the reader of this book.

A life changing book.

I hope I can update this review later! Reading the Kindle version. It's an awesome read and I am very intrigued. I think the book is written very well and I can't stop reading... until I get stuck on an obviously missing section. That is more than annoying! Fix the electronic version before you charge money it! It's like a stupid cliffhanger in a great series :-(.

I would recommend this book to any female out there. If you are happy with your weight or not, this book is about so much more. Written in an easy to follow and relatable style, it guides you through tapping and the science behind it and then walks you through how to use tapping for yourself in relation to multiple aspects to your emotions, stress, cravings, beliefs, past events, and more.

Anything that could be holding you back, not just from getting to your ideal weight, but from fully living your life, can be helped with tapping. I suggest keeping a notebook with you as you read the book because things are going to come up, whether you have aha moments, whether you read something and it strikes a nerve or maybe you just resist the whole thing. Write it down! Those are all clues to help you use what this book teaches you. The same happens as you work with tapping.

Jessica Ortner is very relatable and through her own story and stories of those she has worked with, she presents a new way to look at weight, at body confidence and at life. This book breaks it all down in a way that you can easily follow it at your own pace. If there is an area you need to work on more than others, you can take the time and work on it or you can always come back to it. This is not just a great book to read now but this is one to keep on your shelf to go back to anytime you start to feel like you aren't your best.

This book can help you learn to truly like yourself and to let yourself shine. It goes through many layers of the emotions behind weight but also talks about exercise and food in a new way. It doesn't just say, eat this and don't eat that or do this workout at least 6 times per week. This is about creating a new lifestyle for yourself and a new way of looking at everything.

Many books about weight loss are frank and give tips and strategies…all of which require will power and “white knuckling it”.

For example, knowing you have emotional eating but, GREAT, no real way to do anything with that information or shift that emotional driver. Now there is a technique that changes all that…a serious game changer for weight loss.

As the author of a bestselling tapping book, I consider myself a pretty credible critic of other tapping books. I was extremely pleased to see how this book delivered on its promises.

I loved the explanation of “your body’s weight gain cocktail” describing how the stress response interacts with weigh coming on and staying on. Why is this important, well it’s huge and this is where tapping is a star technique above all others.

The basics of tapping she provides early in the book make it extremely easy to both understand why you are using it and follow along step by step.

I thought chapter 3 on ending the “Pattern of Panic” was particularly real and added a whole new and incredibly insightful aspect to the stress response piece. This is the type of chapter and discussion ONLY someone who has lived with the weight loss struggle can add and Jessica Ortner shares beautifully.

The book shift into “looking within” and things really get REAL! Chapter 4 on Emotional Eating will, I think, blow your mind…and shine a light on not only the pathway to lose weight but on making a shift that will impact the level of joy in every aspect of your life. Nope, not overstating it.

But as you get into Chapters 5 “HOW EVENTS IMPACT WEIGHT AND BODY CONFIDENCE” you really see how different this book is from anything else out there. I think the level of aha moments, insights and healing that people will get from this chapter will be astounding.

CHAPTER 6 THE POWER OF BELIEFS I thought is summed up well in this quote from the beginning of the chapter …
“The Key to Identifying Your Beliefs—Question Everything!
Holding on to negative beliefs is like wearing dark-tinted glasses all day, every day. When we’re wearing them, everything in our world seems scary and threatening. But when we take them off and put on clear glasses—which, in this case, means creating positive beliefs—the world around us seems brighter.”
Dang, well said Jessica! Questioning our long-held, and never-before-questioned and “assumed to be the truth” beliefs is an incredibly powerful process for all humans!

CHAPTER 7 THE PAIN BENEATH THE WEIGHT is another chapter that I know will bring healing to so many people and I applaud her for going there. I also love all the credible experts she draws on to make her points.

The last 3rd of the book really completes the transformational journey you go on from cover to cover…and lets you do things people may think is impossible, like chapter 9 Finding the pleasure in Exercise”….what? seriously? Yes, she is serious, and it’s cool, paradigm-shifting stuff.

So my overall assessment is EXCELLENCE! It is clear Jessica Ortner did not set out to create a “lite” version which would have been very easy and I am sure taken a lot less time to write.

She dug deep and really GIVES and GIVES both from her heart, her own story and her expertise in this transformational book. In helping people lose weight, she has also given them the path to shedding pain, self-doubt and limitation….and stepping into the very best they have ever felt inside and out.
