Présentation de l'éditeur

Over 1000 five-star reviews on Goodreads!

American movie star Scarlett Cox and her husband, hotel tycoon Salvador Brazza, head to Africa to get away and resuscitate their ailing marriage. When robbed of their money and passports, they seek help from the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam on the very day Al Qaeda chooses to bomb it. In an eyeblink they are taken hostage and whisked across the border deep into the Congo, one of the last truly wild places left on earth.

Battling terrorists, deadly wildlife, and cannibalistic rebels, Scarlett and Sal must find a way to survive in a violent, primeval world. And the only person who may be able to save them is the assassin sent to kill them.

"An understated horror story that will remind readers what chattering teeth sound like." -Kirkus on Suicide Forest

"Jeremy Bates has written a great book that would make a great Hollywood screenplay!" - Suspense Magazine on The Taste of Fear

"Bates takes an intriguing premise to shocking lengths, revealing the outcome only in an epilogue. A graphically violent story with building suspense and a moral about where weaving such a web may lead." - Booklist on White Lies

"The Catacombs is a thrilling descent into the unknown, peeling back the dark layers like a rotting onion, tears running down your face as you try to climb your way out. A hypnotic story of buried truths, disfigured creatures, and lost histories told with an authoritative voice full of heart and insight." - Richard Thomas, Bram Stoker nominated author on The Catacombs

"Jeremy Bates doesn't miss a trick, teasing and misleading, ratcheting up the tension as the heroine...loses traction on a slippery slope of deceptions." - Glenn Kleier, New York Times bestselling author on White Lies

"A horror story like none other...makes for a read that will delight horror fans who want their novels steeped in psychological suspense as well as action." - Midwest Book Review on The Catacombs

"A success!" - Hellnotes on Suicide Forest

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good story, horrible proofreading 16 mai 2014

I gave this three stars because I was enjoying the story, but honestly I had to stop reading it about halfway through. It just seems to me that if you're going to put a book out there, you should take the time to proofread and edit it. I understand that spell check and grammar checks aren't 100% accurate and the English language is full of words that sound alike but have different meanings, but really? "Themself" isn't even a word. Even after that, I kept reading, but eventually I just had to give up because the word usage, sentence structure, spelling and grammar were so distracting.

This author obviously has talent. The dialogue was good and the story moved along at a good pace until about 3/4 of the way through the book. Then the author took a completely new twist and turn the book into an action-packed screenplay for a movie. The book then became ridiculous and totally unbelievable and just fell apart. I like a good action movie as well as the next guy but I think the author of a book should pick a theme and stick with it throughout the entire book, not switch it up 75% of the way through. Also if an author wants to write a screenplay that's what they should write. Screenplays and books have two totally different goals in mind.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A series of unlikely events 1 août 2015

This book is basically an ongoing series of unfortunate and unbelievable occurrences in the life of a hollywood actress. I could list about ten different things that happen to her that likely would have ended her life. If you still want to read this book because it's currently free, I will refrain from providing a list of spoilers. But if you appreciate solid character development and you do not want to waste several hours of your life rolling your eyes at one unlikely occurrence after another, look elsewhere.

The Taste of Fear
Reasonable mystery-suspense, but silly grammatical mistakes spoilt it for me.

This book was just terrible. I was going on vacation and wanted a good book for the plane and to while away time on the beach -- this was a bad choice. Couldn't be more preposterous. I won't spoil the story for those of you who purchase this book based on the recommendation of others, but please, how many wild animal attacks can happen in one book? Terrorist attacks? Cannibalism? Snakes, bugs, leeches? Trying to disguise a threadbare story using cheap tactics to build suspense.
